What are your essential mods?

One thing that has always bugged the hell out of me: you can strip the clothing off a dead corpse in Power Armor, but the damn frame itself is un-lootable.

I will try this with dead enemies (BoS!) and see what happens.
This mod works pretty well to be honest. I got it to deal with the same situation, why can't you pull a corpse from a power armour frame? I've never had an issue with it. And it fills a gaping immersion hole.

strange that nobody did mention it yet, but for me THE most important mod by far in any of the last bethesda games is 3dnpc (or atomic radio and tales from the commonwealth as it is called now in fo4).
It just adds so many NPCs who are often even more interesting than the vanilla ones and on top of that quests, follower and in FO4 even a radio station.

Next to that comes true nights. The bright vanilla nights are really immersion breaking and the lighting really looses a lot of its power if you dont have a darker nights mod.
On top of the nights mod you also really need a mod that does change the ambience pip-boy light to a spotlight.

and last but not least the radio mods old world radio, more where that came from and elvanis track pack for more variety.

I think that it became a fairly overwhelmingly large list  That said, it's great for a reference for newer players like me to pick'n'choose from. :)

Oh yes. It's awesome.

They also have Settlers of the Commonwealth now, which adds custom-voiced recruitable settlers. Found this one guy who is into astronomy (Terrance, I think). First thought: oh man, I so have the PERFECT job for you!

Shei - Wolf Ally is one of my favorite companion mods. She doesn't take up a slot, has her own armor and treats, and honestly doesn't need more attention than you're willing to give her. She does require Far Harbor though.

Easy Hacking and Lockpicking is great for when you tire of picking locks or hacking terminals. You still need your perks but beyond that you will succeed. And yes this is technically considered a hack but personally I don't find the mini-games fun at all.

Longer Power Lines Cause vanilla power lines are ridiculously short.

PSA regarding the You Talk Too Much mod. If you’re doing a Minutemen/Railroad playthrough and are having trouble talking with synth Shaun (he doesn’t respond).

Do a save, get out and temporarily disable this mod. It allowed me to interact normally without forcing me to use console commands.

I will double-test again soon.

Hey!

I've only discovered Sim Settlement a few days ago. I mainly avoided it because I didn't think I'd understand how it works. After a fresh install I decided to give it a go and now I can't get enough. I've rid myself of settlement overhauls and now I've become the Chief my Indians need!

This thread has been amazing for mod suggestions! I've been doing the odd edit in FO4Edit for VIS-G while reading.

What do you guys use to populate your wasteland?
I'm using NPC Travel and tossing between War of the Commonwealth and Endless Warfare. I find Endless Warfare fast and lightweight but random, weirdly so. Mobs spawn directly infront of me rather than me somehow stumbling into a wondering horde.
And War of the Commonwealth is excellent for that immersion but it seems even when I decrease spawnrates it matters not because I'm running from six groups just reach diamond city. But at least they don't spawn ontop of me.

So I thought I'd check with you guys, see what you guys use if using anything.

A mod that I tend to always grab is "True Legendary Enemies".
It changes Legendary Enemies to have names which I quite like. Stops it from being a generic.

You can find it on the Nexus Mod site. Sorry I can't link, I'm on the mobile.

Why are these mods all women. What about loving male companions! /grumble
This.

Will have to make one. Eventually.
—edit—
What makes me wonder is why the focus on female companions who are slightly-crazy to fully-crazy. Is that an effort to avoid bland?

Chances are that a male companion will turn out too bland or too OTT male.

Which might explain the dearth of male companions. A fine needles-eye to navigate between complaints and not-worth-having due to being too uninteresting.

Birdie from 3DNPC is fun, and his quest is ridiculous :D
Though he counts as crazy, too, I guess

Crazy Ivy is .... interesting from Loverslab.

And Heather is a must companion. The Vault girls (British) work well too.

I am going to try Blood Rose next run. The next one to try is Europa - unless someone says Nein!

John

I'm not going to touch anything from loverslab. There are times when I want to play, and times when I want to fap, but these usually don't overlap. That, and I dislike 3D-rendered porn.

Also: didn't @CptCOOTS want to make a custom companion out of himself? :D
