Mod List Feedback and Suggestions

Hey everyone.

I am absolutely and completely in love with Sim Settlements. I'm late to the party but catching up.
I decided to play through Fallout 4 again, this time with the game modded. At Obsidian we have a very special internal build (think pre-modded) of Fallout New Vegas that I spent entirely too much time playing. Sadly we don't have one knocking around for Fallout 4!

I'm doing this on Xbox One for a couple reasons:
- We have 3 Xbox's floating around the house which means once I setup my mod list on all them jumping around to play in whatever room (Office, Upstairs TV and Downstairs TV) I'm in is a snap.
- My wife enjoys watching me play, she doesn't enjoy pulling up a desk chair in my home office and watching me play on the PC.
So this limits my pool of mods I have to choose from and also how much I can install thanks to the 2gb limit.

The modded experience I am looking revolves around Sim Settlements, Immersion, keeping Vanilla feel intact, lore friendly and polished. This play through will be done on Survival mode, as usual.

All that being said I am looking for suggestions and feedback on my proposed modlist. I've dabbled with some of these mods in the past and some of these are new to me. I am also looking for known trouble makers: As a game developer I know how much of a pain of ass it is to mod, I appreciate the time and effort that goes into modding, that being said not all mods play well together or do well on the Xbox or just have spent enough time in the oven, I'd like to avoid that, as my time is pretty limited for playing.

Without further ado my Modlist! (Also a Google Doc version because that has hyperlinks active already) (I lied, no link, apparently my post like ration needs to be 1% and it is currently 0%)

Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch [UFO4P] [XB1]
(For Obvious Reasons always included)
Sim Settlements: Three In One [XB1]
(Why I'm posting here!)
True Storms: Wasteland Edition (XBOX) - Storm
(A ton of added immersion and I love fighting ghoul hordes!)
Sim Settlements - IDEK's Logistics Station [XB1]
(This sounded like a neat solution to supply lines that ties in with SS)
NPCs Travel [XB1]
(Well recommended looks clean, with little script usage, makes travel in Survival much more interesting)
Craftable Turret Stands
(I love this simple and very useful mod)
[XB1] Manufacturing Extended
Manufacturing Extended Expanded

(I've never used these but I like the idea of them)
Settlement Menu Manager [XB1]
Sim Settlements Mega Pack Year One - Full

(Hand in hand with SS, but almost 3/4 of the mod storageis gone now!)
BS Defence - UFO4P
(I like the way the changes sound, especially in survival when running back isn't always feasible)
Salvage Beacons [XB1]
(Love the functionality of this)
Campsite (XBOX) - Simple Wasteland Camping
(A must have for Survival, simple to use, heavy on the mod storage though)
Uncapped Settlement Surplus [XB1]
(Really looking for suggestions on the limits here to make this less "cheaty" feeling. Unlimited on everything just seems like too much and Vanilla makes surplus very unrewarding)
Locksmith - Lock Your Doors 'N' Containers!
(Love the ability to lock out the Settlers from my boxes of good guns and ammo)
Icebreaker Settlements - Settler Dialogue Overhaul
(Sounds great for when exploring my SS settlements)
Everyone's Best Friend (Dogmeat + Companion At
(I always thought it weird he counted a full companion, needs to be loaded before survival options to prevent some conflicts)
Give Me My Bottle Back
(Always good to recycle, especially in survival)
Weapon Drop Standalone
(love the immersion factor of this one, simple and easy to use)
K-9 Harness - Tactical Body Armor And
(Makes Dogmeat a little more useful as a companion, and it looks cool. Feels a little out of place though)
Vertibird Travel From Prydwen [XB1]
(Needed for survival to save on some grenades)
Lone Wanderer Fast Travel [XBOX 1]
(lore friendly way to fast travel to certain areas, and it has costs)
Lone Wanderer Fast Travel - Far Harbor
Lone Wanderer Fast Travel - Nuka World
RESPEC Holotape [XB1]

(In case I make a mistake leveling up)
Faded Glory - A Post-Apocalyptic Soundscape
(Love the added music tracks for this one)
True Storms: FAR HARBOR Weather Add-On
Visible Galaxy 4k Dim

(Wish it was still a bit dimmer, but with almost night pollution now you should be able to see a good night sky despite ambient humidity)
Reverb And Ambiance Overhaul - ALL DLC
(This one sounds very cool in my tests. Gun fights while traveling have a very cool distant effect to them, and explosions feel like explosions)
[Dn-0-Ts] Darker Nights For True Storms (Level 0 -
(I like my survival difficult and justifies the flashlights)
[Dn-0-Ts-Fh] Darker Nights For True Storms With Far Harbor (Level 0 - Darkest)
[Dn-0-Nw] Darker Nights For Nuka World (Level 0 - Darkest)
PhyLight
PhyDark (192)

(I like my survival difficult and justifies the flashlights)
Place Anywhere [XB1]
Generally unused expect for certain circumstances where I should be able to place something can't; I don't go crazy with it)
Settlement Management Software (XBOX Edition)
(Really only used so I can see each settlements attack spawn points and set up defenses accordingly.)
Finch Farm And Graygarden Overpass Lifts
(simple and fun, might clash with some city plans though?)
Outfit Switcher [XB1]
(I switch around clothing a bit depending on what I am doing, this makes it enjoyable, gotta have that high charisma to save dem caps!)
KeyNuker And KeyRing - Hidden Keys By Lyravega
(Cleans up some inventory clutter)
HUDFramework [XB1]
Immersive HUD (IHUD) [XB1]

(Love the clean screen that this delivers)
Improved Map With Visible Roads [XB1]
(Makes the pipboy map very usable)
Service Rifle
(Sorry, not sorry, my favorite gun from Fallout New Vegas I need to have it, but boy is it expensive)
[XB1] Pip-Boy Flashlight - Small
[XB1] Tactical Flashlights

(Need these to explore my much darker wasteland, inside and out)
Legendary Power Armor [XB1]
Legendary Helmets [XB1]
Legendary Robot Armor & Weapons [XB1]

(So happy to find Legendary versions of these now!)
Weapon Mod Fixes - GOTY [XB1]
Cut Weapon Mods Restored - GOTY [XB1]
Increased Weapon Mod Distribution - GOTY [XB1]

(These seem pretty cool)
Legendary Robot Armor & Weapons - Far Harbor
Legendary Power Armor - Far Harbor Compatibility
Changeable Armor Sizes - XBox One

(I'm not sure why you can bulk up your armor in the Vanilla game. Happy I can now)
Backpacks Of The Commonwealth
(Very useful for Survival mode. Also looks cool)
[XB1] Holstered Weapons By Azar V1.5
(Because I use the backpack mod I have this to put some holstered weapons on companions, and a 10mm on my hip. Because it is used for only that, I am considering cutting it)
[XB1] STS - All-In-One
[XB1] STS - Extras - Living & Dead - Season Pass

(I've used this a few times and have always had no bad results from it, unlike other scrapping mods, which eventually ruin my game. That being said, this time I only plan to use it to delete those pesky dead bodies and ash piles that enemies like to leave behind that never go away otherwise)
Better Settlers XBOX
Better Settlers XBX MORTAL Pack

(Goes hand in hand with SS)
Survival Options[XBox 1]
(Only picking this up so I can have it auto save every half hour. As much as I enjoyed the thrill and challenge of survival mode the first time I played through, and got 100% achievements on survival mode, with as often as this game crashes without mods; with mods I need something to save my precious real life time)

Those are my thoughts and reasons for the mods I have selected there are more I want, but I think I am clocking in at around 200mb extra space here for mods.

Let me know what you think!

Looks like a nice mixture, you’ve thought that lot through.

With Uncapped Settlement Surplus, perhaps 200 cap per settlement for food and similar for water? Food can go off or get bugs/ants (baby radroaches?) in it, and water does eventually go stale and manky.

I also find the outfit switcher to be indispensable. I cart around too many outfits. :grin

If you can get CWSS on xbox, give it a thought. The showers give a charisma boost for a short time (cleanliness), plus some of them have mild radiation wash-off effects. Watch out for the radioactive ones.

Most of all, have fun!

I take back the CWSS recommendation. It destroyed part of my build menu. Now deleted forever, and luckily I could fix things.

How about You Talk Too Much? Is that available on xbox?

I find it much more natural when random passers-by are not making so many random comments in my direction. It also makes it more likely that something important is not going to be tuned out automatically.

Really try the Mod you will feel better over time playing Fallout :) there is nothing more that let you calm down when Settlers want to give you a Kiss or Preston a huge and you in Exchange push them down from the highest Building you can find in your Settlement.I have not Problems when they Talk i don't like if they try to get inside me when i have to do things

I found that STS all in one conflicted with automatron. Just as a warning. The interior cells of some of the quest buildings get all screwed up including the mechanists lair. I also play on Xbox One X. I just use the STS standard and living and dead. Haven’t found any issues using those.

Thanks for the tips.

I sort of want to just keep it off and only turn it on when I need to get rid of a body or ash pile that will not go away. But I think turning mods on and off during gameplay will do more harm than good.

Your load order looks similar to what I had when I played on Xbox One formerly. I began on X1 & later moved to PC. I'd suggest to get Workshop Framework right away, an overhaul & re-coding of the Settlement system's workshop quests to improve stability & performance which will also lead to benefits for Xbox players.

Instead of all of everything to do with them going through one single quest that can get hung up when overloaded, there is a multi threaded system in WSFW involving 60 quests to divide up tasks more efficiency.

My own Sim Settlements addon on isn't extremely fancy. So I decided to try to make it suited for this exact kind of case for Xbox One users. Nexus link here for more images:
https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/31736

I found I could do some steps to eliminate the requirement for any DLC & the requirement for any other mod dependencies aside from Sim Settlements plus reduce file size. File size is about 10mb only. There was some stuff I was working on but my PSU died so I'm waiting for new PSU for repair as well as getting some better cooling. So now since I can't game at all for the time being I'm trying out Blender for 3D stuff & looking into beginner programming like Python. I guess the difficulty for me is that everything looks interesting to try to me, I find it all fascinating and get ideas for everything to try. It's hard to stick to one thing. 3D art, coding & of course settlement stuff.

Also, I've heard from PC enthusiasts that they've set up their PC as a sort of "home theater PC" and use PC games on big screen TV using Steam Big Picture Mode. Just a possible idea, so you can have the maximum experience & as a PC player also be able to create any mods you wanted(Community here is helpful!). Since you're a dev who's had experience working on New Vegas on essentially the same engine as this game it would be pretty incredible if you became a Mod Author as well, you basically already have all required skills I bet.

All of the Addon creators and Sim Settlements Team are there, if we could ask questions to a Developer like you I imagine that could supercharge the content our addons have. We potentially could have far more complex features in our newer plots. We also love Suggestions, either in Suggestions section or in the specific Addon sections! For new plot ideas or for functionality to Sim Settlements. Or even for new Settlement locations, I've made one for Nuka World & I think there's been others made. When I'm back up & running again I'll see about porting it to the Xbox One. It's a blank slate type of location, I wanted a big sandbox just for building with Sim Settlements with few other things in the area so I'm free to get carried away with it.

Something else to look forwards to are the City Plan Contests. There's going to be a City Plan Mega Pack (also on Xbox!) featuring winning City Plan designs! You can see September entries, with finalists currently working right now on finishing up.

I always advise caution in using these mods. Scrap mods break the precombined meshes so it causes performance loss/save issues. I don't quite remember everything about this particular mod specifically. But I believe Scrap That Settlement's approach was to simply break precombines meshes for only the specific cells which is a bit better than what other ones like Scrap Ultimate do. I personally tried Scrap Everything Ultimate Edition when I was still on Xbox One and that mod convinced me to no longer use scrap mods anymore. With SE UE it worked by using the game Ini file setting bUsePrecombines=0 to disable the precombined mesh system across the entire game. You instantly get far worse performance when downtown or at other dense locations like Corvega/Lexington/Quincy/etc, so it severely reduces the ability to simply play the game.

I sort of want to just keep it off and only turn it on when I need to get rid of a body or ash pile that will not go away. But I think turning mods on and off during gameplay will do more harm than good.
Agreed. That is my view as well, & I did find that all I really wanted to get rid of were bodies & ash piles.
Another thing YOU could do is also look for redundancy in some mods and merge them to cut down on a little space. I'd personally grab ALL the Sim Settlements add-on packs, but that's my bias.
I strongly second this! When I learn more & get more experienced I might start doing this for personal use(It might be prone to bugs when I attempt it, it is a complex task to merge them all). But for a Dev I bet it'd be really easy!

I also personally use all Sim Settlement Addon packs on my own game.

Yeah I try to do that wherever possible. This mod list was about a week of prep work to get it where it is at currently.

I'd LOVE to grab all the building and future city packs, but the Xbox is pretty restrictive with a 2GB limit on mods. ( I mean I understand the technical reasons behind it, doesn't mean I like it though!)

True that is why I cut my addon's size down to 10mb. I found the 2GB limit extremely restrictive when I played on X1. Especially since I like Niero's fancy outfits like Institute Explorer & Mojave Manhunter which I think are pretty large even on the reduced size textures for X1. If I remember right I think they are a few hundred MB each, I think he included 2048x2048 textures.

2GB limit & performance were the biggest reasons for me building a gaming PC. I always want to build a ridiculous number of Sim Settlements plots

I suspect that doing this will make you into a first-caliber developer. It’s part of my overall plan, and I like to think that seeing both the good and the bad from the inside as it were will build your skillset tremendously.

Maybe I should bite the bullet, rethink, and do that with CWSS as a personal project. Convert it to use SMM.

Amongst the million other things competing for my time and attention.

Great I just downloaded the WSFW, didn't see it when I was browsing but that is because it is in the preview area for mods currently.

I saw your mod actually and have it on my favorites list, its is one of my top pics for inclusion with my remaining room for two reasons:
1. Right now it is only 10mb!
2. I love the specific feel that having taller downtown buildings give you.
The only reason I didn't add it from the get go, was because from the description it sounded like maybe you were not sure if it would work on Xbox.

We are looking into buy a gaming PC upstairs. We tried the Steam Link streaming it from my home office to upstairs but the latency over wifi caused some issues on faster paced games. It is definitely in the cards though!

As all I want to do it really get rid of the dead bodies that sometimes get stuck after fights, I'll remove these mods from my modlist. They are simply not worth the risk.

I really love how Sim Settelments changed the gameplay loop for Fallout 4 and really made it feel like a natural inclusion. It was also a smart move to build it on-top the existing system to keep the vanilla vibe intact. One of my favorite parts is watching cities unfold and change as I am out having adventures. Having a whole city change and then exploring those changes really changes how I view the game now. So I am really looking forward to more building plans. :)

Finally, sure I'll hop on the discord. Not sure if I can be of any use, but I'll be around to chat from time to time.

I suspect that doing this will make you into a first-caliber developer. It’s part of my overall plan, and I like to think that seeing both the good and the bad from the inside as it were will build your skillset tremendously.
Hopefully someday. I would love to eventually be able to implement Sim Settlements Plots featuring scripted effects &/or custom 3D assets. Or selling outfits or new weapons that I make. I spend time using 3D programs like Blender, 3DS Max, and a little bit with texturing ones to try to slowly learn them. It's a long road where problem solving often a part of the learning process, & can be stressful when having to make do without documentation for some issues so I go at a slow steady pace.

What is CWSS?

2. I love the specific feel that having taller downtown buildings give you.
The only reason I didn't add it from the get go, was because from the description it sounded like maybe you were not sure if it would work on Xbox.
To my knowledge it should work. But I'm a little wary because I don't own an Xbox so can't personally test it on the Xbox. I put caveat in description to try to minimize anyone getting upset. I've had it on the Nexus since May & nobody's reported issues(Though I found & corrected some small things). I'm really quite overly cautious with that because I used to frequent Bethesda.net & I noticed a lot of trolling on there & not as much moderation as on here or the Nexus. I'm a pretty new mod author & only released files in May.

I'm generally on here &/or the Discord every day so can correct issues that are brought up.

1. Right now it is only 10mb!
For the future I plan to maybe go up to 20mb, maybe 8-10 plots similar to what's there. I'm actually thinking because space is such an issue that I'd probably make a new modpage every time so people can select what size that they can/want to use. Probably I'll do only bugfix for updates on the page that's there. An "Xbox V2" that's 20mb in size. Then maybe someday a bit of a larger one. Though I might do a branched off 2nd addon for less lore friendly ideas. If I do texturing they'll likely go there, textures are what will really increase the file size.

We are looking into buy a gaming PC upstairs. We tried the Steam Link streaming it from my home office to upstairs but the latency over wifi caused some issues on faster paced games. It is definitely in the cards though!
I am on a GTX 1080 & i7-7700, I would say my specs or a well overclocked GTX 1070 would be the sweet spot for 4K resolution & being able to get carried away with modding. For instance I use BRB Modlist, part of it being a texture overhaul changing near everything, about 10,000 textures replaced & repacked into the base game BA2s.
For Price/Performance usage for 1440p I think the sweet spot is 1060 6GB with Ryzen. Over 6GB is a boon for allowing unrestricted usage of mods including high res textures like the fanciest outfits without having to worry about VRAM budget. SSD hugely recommended, I'm on an EVO 850 500GB and it's fantastic.

Finally, sure I'll hop on the discord. Not sure if I can be of any use, but I'll be around to chat from time to time.
Spectacular! I'd definitely love any feedback/ideas/suggestions!

@VersusXV - CWSS Redux, full name is Craftable Working Sanctuary Showers Redux. Adds fully-functional bathroom assets into the furniture menu, with a couple showers that have mild radiation-cleaning effects.

Unfortunately I had a near-vanilla game (for creating a Starlight DriveIn build) lose the furniture in workshop mode, because I disabled CWSS as not being relevant to the contest.

It was supposed to disable/uninstall (relatively) safely, and there was a feature for fixing issues that might happen. Both failed. I was looking for other options when Uituit pointed me to the SSM menu fixer. That sorted it.

I was really unhappy at the thought of having to export and import my progress to date, into yet another new game that I’d have to create yet again. >_<

(Having had 5-6 hours sleep in the last 48 didn’t help.)

Gambit on Discord mentioned encouraging the mod author to convert to SSM, instead of the old script injection method. Having had a day to think it over, and your stuff above, I’m thinking that I should do it myself as a learning exercise.

That would be excellent TBH. I'd like to hear about how it works. I've got some Sim Settlements Custom Foundations as a WIP. But I want more options & I want to use SMM to make submenus within the Sim Settlements/Foundations Submenu. I want to make more of them so there could be a lot of clutter in the menu otherwise. I've had some difficulties with SMM when trying to make a tree of sub-menus though it worked easily to just add to an existing one.

I would ditch the camping mod.

Any experienced veteran of the game dont really need it. There is PLENTY of beds and workstation to use scattered all over the world. Most of it is just exploring and finding them. If you do a search there is even a map out there of all bed locations.

If you are worried about your ability to save in a hurry I am quite sure the save in survival mods are much smaller than the camping mod.

As far as storage and dumping junk, a lot of people dont know this but all the work stations in the game are immune to cell reset. So in other words if you wanna dump all your crap into the power armor station near Home Plate until you can afford to buy Home Plate, it will be fine. You can also do like I did and when you go to Far Harbor and Nuka World you pack supplies and dump them into the workstations.

^^^ I've gotten into the habit of keeping everything in the workbench. Generally due to laziness, can't be bothered mucking around with sorting stuff into masses of containers.

I usually hit up the wild workbenches and break down my weapons and armor into scrap because it is less weight.

Then depending on how much time left I have in the game day is whether I carry it back to a nearby settlement or dump it into the workbench and keep farming.

The big thing to remember is you dont need settlers at a settlement to use it for storage. Then on top of that you can still connect an empty settlement in a supply chain, you just have to have the provisioner from somewhere else.

My games I plan on doing Far Harbor and NukaWorld I build in Starlight, make a provisioner to Hangmans Alley, then Build in Vault 88 and have a provisioner to Hangmans Alley. That pretty much covers the entire Commonwealth as far as quick easy access to my supply line.

So using a mod to make extra settlements or camps just seems redundant.
