Mod List Feedback and Suggestions

^^^ I've gotten into the habit of keeping everything in the workbench. Generally due to laziness, can't be bothered mucking around with sorting stuff into masses of containers.
I started just carrying a lot of shipments because too much stuff in workbench can cause slowdowns/issues. I'm usually just testing stuff or trying ideas, like I might make some buildings to imagine what a plot could be like. Plus I already did grinding for resources when I played at launch, I bought Fallout 4 for X1 on day 1, didn't get for PC for couple years because I didn't have one yet. It takes a lot of stuff in the workbench while on PC to cause slowdown but I like to build as much as I can so I use every trick I can think of, it'll build up over time whenever scrapping stuff but I use RemoveAllItems on workbench every so often & I don't store armor/weapons there. Most commonly slowdown/issues would happen on PC if you cheat for 65,535 of every single type of shipment in the game then deposit to workbench. Since for stuff like Wood, there's shipment of 50, 100, 200 IIRC so you end up getting like 22,937,250 wood in the workbench because it auto converts to equivalent amount of scrap plus there's others that are similar like metal/concrete/etc. It's because the workbench containers are linked to others by supply lines, so if they have millions of resources it slows things down. I use separate containers for anything I want to keep since those aren't linked to others.

Although I think perhaps that IDEK Logistics Station might possibly solve this since it seems like it may be its own separate supply line system. It'll be interesting to see how it works someday.

If my inventory gets really cluttered I dump stuff on ghoul body or raider body or some container & use RemoveAllItems on it to make the stuff disappear. I never drop stuff I only put it in container/NPC. I also only carry 1000 ammo of each type, you can actually experience micro-stutters when firing due to carrying too much. If a mod gives you 65535 ammo you most likely will experience game freezing for half a second everytime you fire or freezing off & on if it's automatic. I think game crashed on me when I tried firing a Never-Ending Laser Musket where after reloading once, it uses all of your fusion cells in 1 shot. I guess that might be why it can't normally have Never-Ending Legendary Effect. It actually seems to work & usually oneshot anything that isn't invincible so long as you don't have thousands of fusion cells, damage is multiplied by how many loaded fusion cells & due to a bug it instantly loads every one you have.

I found it's better to use a separate container for dumping everything, that way it doesn't bog down system when you've got everything supply lined. I build a little toolbox or floor safe for this. I got a portable cell player home from cheat terminal where I dump anything that was customized/can't be instantly replaced.

I usually hit up the wild workbenches and break down my weapons and armor into scrap because it is less weight.
I wish I remembered what it was called but I got a mod that does this automatically. If I pick up any junk items like clocks/teddy bears/etc it instead gives me base components. I think it is this one, SKK Workshop:

This one might be handy if you try custom settlement mods:

Meh, I get bored too easily if something is too easy. Trudging back to that workstation to break things down just makes it more immersive and realistic I guess. Plus I am betting it could break down items I dont want broken down.

I agree, I mainly recommend this kind of thing if you reach a point of mainly focused on making & testing mods rather than playing normally. It can be more frustrating to play the normal way where things take time when you're trying to make sure something is working and testing takes enough time already. I only had it bother me with a couple mods like a cigar mod that required cigar to craft it. It kept giving paper or whatever component & it also auto scraps workbench, like even if you AddItem junk into the workbench. To be fair it does have an option in holotape to disable automatic scrap.

When I eventually try survival mode layer I'll dial this stuff back.

I've been thinking about the camping mod. I've been using one myself - even in a standard game, when you're exploring you mightn't know where the local beds are. Or you might not be in range of the ones that you do know, leaving you to take plenty of rad damage when one of those nasties blows in. (Backtracking via fast-travel to a safe spot is a waste.)

The ability to set down anywhere reasonably sensible and just camp through a storm makes a heck of a lot of sense in Survival mode. Especially when your character can become fatigued from long-distance exploration.

Makes sense to me. Keep it goin'.

A good point, I'd like to add food items that help address tht, like pick-me-ups. I think it's neccessary for reasons like needing save beds & not knowing where they are in an area. I'll think about a list some time, maybe recipes for cooking if I get some good ideas. I think a wide range of stuff to address things like in your post could be cool. Maybe powerful effects, but requiring perks & some expensive materials? Doing it how I want would be more complicated but I'd like cooking recipes that are unlocked via plots, perhaps through VIP story. Will have to think about what would make sense here.

I think it would add to immersion if investing in settlement building with Sim Settlements could allow the player more ways to deal with stuff like survival needs.

Slight problem with that, you cant go to sleep in an outdoor cell while taking rad damage.

@VersusXV - portable, personal water purifier. We already have various of these for campers and survivalists and emergency kits (filter straws and the like). Add the ability to remove rads as well as the more normal nasty contaminants, gardia viruses, etc.

You have to time it carefully, set up before the storm really hits. Pray that it’s not a 2-day storm.
