Old Post Industrial Revolution Tech Tree Discovery *SPOILERS*

Update to this thread: the new R&D Excavation plot has two choices at lvl 2, which are Ceramics Kiln and Glass Blowers. Also, the Excavation plot has a cool actual ladder you climb to get into it, and you can sometimes ride the conveyor belt back up (sometimes it doesn't carry you, but you can walk on it of course).

Is it possible to assign a leader but not use the city plan? Will the leader do their leader thing regardless? I tried it with Codsworth both with and without a city plan, but he seems very uninterested in any job assignment or leadership role even though he is set to be a leader. Wastrel.

As for the upgrade that might need an Iron Mine secret, I've been down in the mines a few times. Only once did I see rocks to mine by picking them up, but never saw anything else. I wasn't sure if mining the rocks was the same as the settler hirelings doing the work or if they were extra I could add to the stockpile to move it along. I presumed the latter.

Yes. Just assign one and when asked to scrap select "I'll build it myself" or whatever. Maybe Codsworth is a bit buggy.

there is a crystal hidden in the mine, look around the main room

Have anyone managed to solve the Weapons research quests from the Advanced Weapons plot?
I am severely stuck with the only hint coming from the enabling the "Simple objectives".
I have reached the stage with the Energy Signature Analyzer and I am completely lost.
I can find no clue on the plot as to where to place it. Using Simple Objectives indicates that it needs to be placed "somewhere" in the Glowing Sea... Narrowing it down a lot thanks :P
I have been running around the locations that I could possibly see a tiny relation to laser weapons/energy signatures looking for some interaction point, but no luck.

Can you give some info on how you got that far? I got past the very first stage of providing research materials and cant figure out what to do next, I've tried many things with no changes. Turning on simple objectives in the holotape also had no effect.

How does the pre-selected upgrade path work? Do I still need the required plots in the settlement, or do I just need to have the final building unlocked?

Should be the chosen building unlocked, and have all required buildings in the settlement or connected by supply lines.

Is the information about the adv. weapons facility requiring microfusion garage still accurate?

I have a microfusion garage at Starlight and a Plastic & Polymers at Sunshine, but I only see Medical Plastic as possible upgrade for it.

I built the MF Garage and did it's quest before the research sharing upgrade. Maybe I have a bug here?

They both need to be in the same settlement to upgrade, after you can build wherever directly

The item in the mine, which I found, unlocks the one Excavation upgrade? I think that is the case, and don't see it otherwise stated in the spreadsheet.

Wait. Does this go for ALL IR buildings which require one another, or just for these two?

All I think, didn't tested it for it though, but from observations you need to unlock a building first before you can build it somewhere else. The prerequisites aren't global is seems

Mh .

Best way is to build one or two research settlements. I built sanctuary myself with a focus on unlocking stuff.

My understanding is that is is true for the *initial* unlock only. You may notice that in my city plans, I have only placed IR buildings with co-dependencies together to unlock specific trees. Subsequent cites will not need prerequisites.
