Primary Bug Report Hub of the Problem - Unable to advance quest, Button in basement doesn't do anything

This quest needs a bit of polish. I had to come on here to work out that there were mats to a sub basement. Now I’m stuck. I’ve powered up the comm device. I’ve found the holo tape and I’ve pushed the button to make more ASAM thingies and now what? Map offers no clues Jake won’t talk to me and I can’t progress. It feels bugged. Is it bugged?

I reloaded the save like I said and just followed all the quest markers first THEN looted the rest of the room and it finished up the quest that way. Last time I went through and just started grabbing everything in sight. (Thats my usual SOP for places) that seems to be what broke it for me. You have to follow the quest step by step before doing anything else. It went like this:
Grab holotape in the safe in the room behind the asam research table
Push button on the prototype comm hub
Turn on power
Push button again
Grab technical document
push button on asam printer
quest finished
Just let all of the conversations happen step by step before going to the next quest step

If you haven't done this quest yet then don't read in case spoilers...

I'm stuck in the Vault-tec regional basement with Jake looking around in a safe.
Found the terminal mentionning a sub-basement and there an obvious button on the wall but it doesn't do anything when pushed...

So... Any suggestions?

Same I just got to the bit where I pushed the button now we know how to make the ASAMS I even found vault key opened up the lock up room near the knock off com hub. Only thing I see I haven't been able to mess with is a safe that is expert. Talked to Jake a dozen times to make sure I didn't screw that up as I have done it in the past. This is quit annoying I mean I don't like the whole nav becon thing spoilers in most quests but it took me like 15 minutes to sort out how to even get into the subbasement by moving floor mats. I even searched the floor for little hidden things like that..

Ok it has to be done in order I just sorted out the order. At least this order worked for me, first find the holo tape, then the hit the button on the machine for schematics, then power up the com hub, and finish that bit. LAST must be hand over the paperwork on the knock off, do that and the quest finally freaking finishes. Hopefully you never left the building I was able to pul lthe auto save when I first got in the sub basement so was able to start all over and do it again till I got right order or at least one that worked

Hey guys, I'm on the quest hub of the problem and i'm in the basement but cant figure out how to get to the sub basement. The red button on the wall doesnt do anything.
I'm all out of ideas and ive tried nothing (okay i believe i've thouroughly explored the basement but cant seem to figure it out) Help

I assume you've been through the upper part of the building; there's a bunch of rubber mats directly below the button you can activate them to move them aside to reveal a hatch. The red button unlocks it.

i went ahead and entered through the main door and then the quest progressed as it should.
though i have to admit i made a manual save for each step because i am paranoid like that

Spoiler warning!!

I am in the basement looking for the sub basement. I found the button and an interaction to move mats on the loose mats, however, when I try and do so nothing happens. I have pressed the button multiple times but still have no interaction. I have tried to reload a save before entering the building but still running into this issue. Am I missing something or has my game bugged? Thanks for any help.

update: I was able to no clip under the mat and trigger the door to travel into the subbasement. Still not sure what caused the issue. Still not able to move mat but found a way around

If you can load a save from when you entered that cell, try looking for the holotape that is on the desk by the backdoor. Play that holotape, and then try and move the mats. If that works, then hit the button. Then you should be able to enter.

If Chef's solution does not work.
After you TCL into the basement I think you are going to have to use moveto command on Jake. Someone used the TCL the other day and was unable to progress because Jake was left behind.

Hi,
I played this quest before but then my SS2 got stuck donating too much

So I restarted and now I dont know how to finish
  • started the power and pressed button
  • found the note, gave it to jake
  • found the tape, he checked it out
  • pressed the button when Jake asked me to
  • pressed the red button and Jake talked about it making ASAMs

now Quest states: "Investigate the Lead Jake received"
What else needs to be done?!? I am stuck on that. Maybe because I used option 4 on all talks?
I will replay with full dialog (option1 and then option 4) like in first play that worked
anyone has a hint?

EDIT: SOLVED
  • Jake Talks - Option 1
  • "Lets split and look around"
  • Marker over Red Button. I press it
  • Jake talks an checks monitor at the machine
  • "Jackpot, yadda, yadda. Lets check around"
  • Marker over Tape
  • Pick Lock on Door and 'E' on Tape
  • Jake: "... 4 more plot types...
  • option 1 Option 4
  • Jake: "Lets keep on looking"
  • He walks into other room
  • I wait until he is there
  • Marker over machine button
  • I press it... Not working... figure out how to power it
  • I go downstairs
  • Marker on switch board
  • I switch the switch
  • Marker is on button
  • I press the button, Machine is now lit and Jake talks
  • Jake "Do me a favor and press the switch on the testing station"
  • I go and press
  • Jake "Allright, come back"
  • Talk to -> Jake Option 1
  • continue -> Option 1
  • Jake "Take a look around"
  • Marker now on Comlink
  • I take it
  • 'E' Talk to Jake "I found some documents for you"
  • Jake talks Option 1 - Jake talks - Option 1 - Jake talks - Option 4 - Jake talks
  • Jake finishes talk "All Done"
  • Option 1 [Local Leader]
  • Jake talks "Oh shit, I forgot to meet with someone"
  • Option 1 - Jake talks
  • Option 1 - Jake talks
  • Option 4 - Jake talks
  • Option 1 - Detective?
  • Jake talks "Here, the schematics. Now you can build your own sensors"
  • Visual ASAM sensor

I managed to replicate this, in a fairly specific way. Is it possible you skipped this scene/never entered this room:

If for instance, you obtained the keycard earlier than expected(sometimes the ghoul appears earlier than expected).

I remembered it happening before so I grabbed the keycard then entered the elevator without going into the office. Some things noticed is Jake doesn't appear in the basement & you get no objective update. There was no interaction on the mat and pressing activate didn't do appear to do anything.

But I tried going back up the elevator and going to the office, that triggered the scene as expected. Might be worth a try, seems to have allowed it to work for me without needing a reload.

moveto command on Jake.
I tried this, didn't work. Scene in Magnusson's Office has to happen. I wouldn't advise to TCL.

I wouldn't advise to TCL.
Well I think I cut myself short with the answer, it should have been longer. I was pointing out that TCL by itself is not a solution. In order for TCL to actually work you are going to need a bunch of console commands. That would include being able to to see the stages and such and clearing it stage by stage.

With your info about the cause being jumping stages by getting the card too early kinda makes sense. I have learned over the years that when you skip a stage the script may not break immediately, but farther down the line. This shows a lot more in Fallout 76 with the stage progression. Which certainly cleared a lot up for me because it aint the stage you are on that is actually broken, it was the stage you skipped a while back.

So the best solution would be to reset the quest and try again. Only go slower and do not run off exploring until Jake says to find a card.

The other thing is, some people might have the issue playin an older game if they went into the basement for the CC Vault Suit stash. Bypassing from the street with expert lockpicking?
