Primary Bug Report Hub of the Problem - Unable to advance quest, Button in basement doesn't do anything

This quest needs a bit of polish. I had to come on here to work out that there were mats to a sub basement. Now I’m stuck. I’ve powered up the comm device. I’ve found the holo tape and I’ve pushed the button to make more ASAM thingies and now what? Map offers no clues Jake won’t talk to me and I can’t progress. It feels bugged. Is it bugged?

Diagnosed the issue. I did it out of order. I did the comm, then the Holotape, then the schematics for more asam sensors. That broke the quest. I did it in the right order second time around. This let me progress.

I got into the basement, tape mentions a subbasement. It says "Really hold it down" presumably about the button on the wall?

This is NOT a mechanic the game has. I pressed the button a thousand times as fast as I could, I held down E to see if eventually it would register, and obviously let it go after that and got a standard button press. I TCL'd into the floor and looked for a physical room, but it must open an area transition or something. There's no sub basement, there's no way into the sub basement I can find, and the tape not only doesn't contain audio (not unusual in my experience, the Jake station never plays real audio) so I could only "hear" it with captions, it seems to jump right over a section. It cuts from like "store all the robco crap in the subbasement." to "You have to really hold it down, yadda yadda."

I have no idea what I can do to progress past this point, if I knew the quest ID I'd just manually progress it to the next step or complete.

Look at the ground where the button is!

XD i had a similar issue!

Press the button them look at the ground and interact with the stuff there and voila!

Ps Jake might bug out and start the next part of the questline there instead of entering with you in the sub-basement. so get ready to do some " moveto player "... but ya sorry for spoilers

I have a problem with this quest. Button in basement doesn't do anything. What was your problem and what solution if same?

Update: My problem was that the big Red Button didn't appear to do anything. It does, but the mats on the floor under the button need to be cleared away. Not intuitive, but cleared the way for the rest of the quest, which went off without a hitch. I also suggest just following the quest as stated in the sub basement looking for the quest markers as each stage continues rather than picking up everything all at once.

How do you clear away the mats?
i am trying to find out why i cant progress further, there is no interaction to do it nor can i move them by holding down the E key.

When arriving at the vaulttec HQ i went through the backdoor into the basement directly, its a expert lockpick to get through.
Once down there i kill the pair of ghouls and Jake has his conversation and begins searching.

Like the other thread i quickly found the button on the wall and pressed it repeatedly, did nothing.
Checked to forum found out that there is a door beneath the rubber mats below the button, TCL confirmed it to me.

Now i am trying to figure out how to get rid of the mats, they do not respond when i activate them, nor am i able to drag them away.Further research told me i could Modpos them to be able to interact with them however they are NOT selectable in the console for me.
I would upload a save but i have no idea where to put it.

I cannot progress the quest anymore since i cannot remove the mats which i assume should trigger a questupdate.
Using TCL to go inside the next cell works but nothing happens in there.

did you heard the holotape(well you cant hear it but you can read)
step 1 enter the cell let jake talk and kill the ghouls
step 2 go the table with the computer and hear the holotape on the tabe
step 3 back tack and press the button
step 4 look down and the mats should be interactable
step 5 interact with them
step 6 wait for jake to coment and then enter in the sub basement

ps be ready to use moveto player on jake in case he bugs and doesnt enter in the sub basement

Well. this quest is a total mess for me.
  • I cannot get Jake to interact at all in the basement
  • I cannot get the mats to be interactable
  • using TCL, I was able to activate the door, and enter the sub-basement cell
  • once in the cell, Jake still does not interact with me
  • there is a Novice terminal that, once hacked, contains nothing
  • there is a holotape in an open safe that cannot be activated

I'm baffled as to how to get this quest to progress! Oh, I am making such a face right now. Hide the children.

On the table in the basement next to the workers terminal is a holotape that talks about the sub-basement. At the end of that tape it says something along the lines of "Hold it down, it's broken" or something at the end. I held "E" on the button for 3-4 seconds and it then let me move the mat. You may need to play the tape first, or hold the button down first.

ic i have the 1.0a hotfix but there are no audiofiles for the radio or holotapes.
i shall give it a another try.

UPDATE:

i listened to the holotape that has no sound at all which, this is one of many reasons i have no clue what to do in the quest.
then i tried to hold in the button on the wall as described above and no changes, i can still not interact with the mats

I added the save for the devs (apparantly i did not since the forum refuses to accept .RAR files, if only we had a discord)

I have found Sub-basement, turned the power on, "Discovered" the prototype comm hub, found the tape in the safe, jake talked about the ASAM printer. I have looked ALL over the basement now, even TFC'd to see if there was some hidden room or something i missed, I have even jumped up all the shelves and found the little hidden treasures but its still telling me to search the room. Am I missing something still or is it just broken?

theres a secondary room in front of the one you got the holotape. enter and to the right you will see a machine and a button. click it!
after you need to enable the power ... etc etc etc no spoilers but that's what should be doing

Well I got to a part and I could not find anything left to search for. Tried looking to see if anyone else had issues and found nothing. Eventually I figured it out.
Apparently between pushing the button and it jumping ahead to power up the console I grabbed some schematics. Since I had grabbed them there was no prompt to go talk to Jake, or maybe it aint staged that way, I dunno. I had kinda figured grabbing the schematics was the thing I was missing so I tried dropping them, inspecting them, loading them into a terminal. I accidently hit talk to Jake searching around and it ended the quest.
Hopefully that can help someone out who needs a hint.
