I'm still baffled as to why the visitors are attacking people, they have the same faction settings as every neutral NPC I've ever added. I'm looking for help identifying if maybe the issue is specific visitors.

If you ever find the visitors attacking and can absolutely confirm that only one particular visitor was involved, please find the name of that visitor and post it here.

The most common reported troublemaker is the Ranch Hand.
 
I've had the ranch hand attack Carla.
Carla seems to attract trouble. I remember when a plot turret was playing up and attacking Carla.
 
ive had the scavenger attacking my bloat flys and rad roaches :( the mechanic was standing righ next to the scav but was doing nothing hostile
 
Ranch Hand and Tanner have both been attacking Carla in my game.

I solved the problem though, I killed Carla and her stupid brahmin that always got stuck on a roof in Sanctuary. No more random attacks since!

I witnessed a shootout between a ranch hand and Diamond City Security. Was pretty amusing.

Does the vanilla game have a "scavenger" I randomly encounter them and they are always hostile toward me.
 
I remember meeting scavengers but no hostile, looking for scrap in dead robots saying this like "I found this first" or "a lot of scrap around here"
 
For me, so far, it's always been a Ranch Hand. Specifically, a female ghoul in a plaid shirt. Regardless of the settlement this happens in, it always seems to be the same NPC model. As in the lady with the drawn gun in the attached image.

From the console, this NPC's ID shows as (ff0287cd)[PP]

mostly scavenger attacking stuff for my part
ada ganging up whit scavenger to kill Robert Ross and Luis.

Every time there's a visitor involved in a conflict in my game, it's always a yellowish female ghoul, the names change but the npc always looks the same. In my game she always wears a wig and looks a lot like bobby-no-nose, so I've been speculating that the problem may come from the faction or aggression settings of the base npc used. I first found this sort of problem when testing the mod "faction settlements" because the base npc the moder used for the railroad settler, is aggressive towards everything that isn't in the railroad faction, even neutral creatures like Brahmins. I assume this npc was created specifically for a battle like bunker hill or something like that, and that's the reason it has a different behavior than the rest of the railroad npcs, so I'm guessing that this is a similar issue.

I found her shooting at my caravan brahmin yesterday. A well placed .50 cal to the head took care of it.
 
@kinggath Okay.. E439 (Ghoul Ranch Hand) RaceID: EAFB6 is always hostel. It also has a PCLevelMulti: 0.75 with min/max set at 0
and no Morality value. Compared to the human version E432
 
/yeah female ghoul I think the scavenger was a female ghoul to
maybe menopause is the cause ;)

can confirm that ''ghoul female ranchhands'' cause alot of trouble.
i almoast feel bad after offering the vault tec rep a home in sanctuary only to see him get shot and killed 20 seconds later.
maybe he sold her a dodgy vault space or something.
 
Looks like it's raceID related and not faction.
Both the Ranch Hand and Tanner spawn as leveled enemies, but are in the same factions as the rest of the visitors.
 
I have a female ghoul visitor that is a tanner that started attacking a dog named scratch and brahmin of supply routes i believe she looks like these other ghouls as well. Edit : her console ID is (ff060985)[PP]
