Possible Fallout 4 VR Support

I think most people play FO4 VR are playing it on a 970 or 980 ti. Performance is very good if the settings are lowered. To have the PC in a different room would mean a lot of wires with the Rift because the sensors are connected to the PC via usb. The Vive sensors only need to connect to a power outlet. And the Samsung Odyssey sensors are inside the headset itself so nothing to plug in.

FO4 VR at 90 fps is a bit less demanding than FO4 4K. Partly because for VR the game sometimes runs at 45 fps and the graphics card doubles the fps to 90 by faking half of the frames.

I think it's worth it. The experiences are just more instinctual in VR. When Marcy walks by at eye level and says "You better shut your mouth about this place!" my mind was thinking we were about to fight lol. Adrenaline pumping and ready to go. When NPCs ambush you and you actually dive down on the floor to hide behind a rock it's kinda intense. The first time a ghoul sprinted and lunged at me it was a Nope, Nope, Nope. I recommend a "walking zombie/ghoul" mod. The radroaches, bloodbugs, and radscorpions are bad enough. It's interesting to see a new settler show up in your settlement. You know everyone's face and outline pretty much in VR like it was an actual person standing in front of you in real life. So when you see someone that looks unfamiliar they definitely stand out more. There was a Black Mirror kind of scene where I came back to the settlement at night and saw a Slenderman looking creature at the workshop. Or even species 8472. It was headless and naked. Kind of looked like this:

But no head, no clothes. Skinnier. Much taller than me. Standing motionless. I guess it happens sometimes if an npc uses your power armor? The person who took that picture is also in power armor so the stretched out npc doesnt look that tall. But it was tall. I think that was even worse than the ghouls. But on the positive side, the standout elements of FO4 VR are definitely settlement building with Sim Settlements and following the main and side stories that have a lot of dialogue. It's too bad that the youtube videos of someone playing VR tends to make people ill. It makes me ill to watch the way the camera moves and shakes around. I can't watch for more than a few minutes. But actually using VR feels fine.

Sounds kind of crazy, I'm guessing the VR headsets have locational surround sound so if NPC or enemy is right behind you it's really loud.

It is. I got them to get out and the PA reappears when they exit. I can't remember if I did the pickpocket fusion core thing or if they respond normally when you activate them.

I kind of wish we could make it happen on purpose sometimes. Maybe I'd make him look like this:

Ryuk from Death Note.

Just an update to everyone waiting on this. I have a collection of bugs to try and address for VR on my to-do list. I have two major projects to complete first, and then this will become a priority for me. Hopefully by then we'll see HUDFramework adding VR support.

Has anyone poked registrator2000 to see if it's something he's even interested in doing?

Hey, at least notes work now. Those were the biggest pain point (plot plaques included) that I know of.

@kinggath

Could you add a screen to the holotape in the meantime that just shows the same info (even if just in numerical format) that goes to HUD framework?

Or perhaps a plaque on the desk?

I don't mind it not being convenient to have easy access to the info (à la hud framework) but it'd be great to still have access to the info somewhere while in VR.

Right now I have to cross-save to pancake VR if I really need to check something.

Reports in the CP desk may have what you're looking for.
Especially the happiness report

I don't recall the new items he added to HUD Framework with praise be to glorious leader in there, but I haven't booted it up since loading the update today. Will check.

Any followup on this? The only issue I'm seeing is that you can't assign settlers to anything SimSettlements adds to the game.

After the last patch, aside from HUDFramework, everything seemed to be working so I didn't pursue it further.

I'm able to assign settlers to plots in VR. What are you unable to assign to? Is it that the items don't have the assign option, or the settlers just are never actually assigning when you hit assign?

At the time I could click a settler as expected in the base game, but if I pointed to a martial or residential plot and clicked assign, nothing would happen, for at least the 30 seconds I waited, and it appeared as though the game was still waiting for me to assign them to do something.
p.s. sorry about the delay I wasn't watching this thread.:-(

how did you get it to work in vr? (or did you and I just didn't understand) when I load my save in pancake fallout4 the hud is there but in VR i just get the spamming of the HUD framework generic update. I have watched your video on how to fix it but figured it was a no go because of the "Does not work with Projected pip-boy" I just came here to find out how to turn off the updates, but I would be even happier if there is a fix. excellent mod, I am new to it but it looks amazing, I can't wait to learn more about it.

HUDFramework does not work in VR. If you don't install it, the HUDFramework messages won't appear.

thank you, that was what I though but I have already removed it, I will check to see if any files got left behind. it turns out there was loose files hanging around, all fixed, thank you. if you ever need an additional VR tester, let me know.
