Solved Level 13. Trying to get more new settlers, but not sure how?

Hello!

So, I'm playing a non-Conqueror game (technically never finished Fallout 4, so this is my main game now...) . I'm running Sim Settlements 3-in-1 with the Year One/Two/Three Megapacks, but I'm having trouble understanding how to acquire more settlers or making sure all my settlers have a job and a bed to sleep on.

Specifically, I have Sanctuary HIlls, Outpost Zimonja, Tenpine Bluffs, Abernathy Farm, and Starlight Drive in Currently unlocked... and I used those recruitment beacons to get started on making Starlight a secondary location for me to work on.

Clarificatory questions:

1. Is there a special recruitment beacon baked into the Sim Settlements 3-in-1 that improves recruitment?

2. Can I tag a settler to work on multiple things? Like for instance, assigning their bed or residential plot, but also giving them an agricultural or industrial/martial plot?

Also...

I actually do not know how to use those city planning thingies, I guess. It's saying I need a City Leader, but it's only saying Codsworth (my companion) is available as a city leader for a 3-person starlight set-up. I'd need to get more people to make this work, I guess?

That said, the one time I tried to use a City Leader on Sanctuary, it sort of deleted all my workbenches, so I reloaded to avoid that, and probably won't use city planning on Sanctuary. More guidance on how to build Sanctuary and Starlight Drive in as a cities would be appreciated, though? I mean, I can use the City Planning thing on Starlight, but I have too much invested in Sanctuary that I don't want to lose at the moment, even if it's just growing still.

Anyway, I just shot my way through Corvega, so I should have Garvey soon as a companion too.... Maybe I should get him to city leader Starlight?

Again, advice most welcome. <3

Thanks!

No. Just the one your using. But it still takes time to recruit. Its not instant.

Yes. Thats the idea. Each settler must have a bed. And a point of work.

Yes, you need more companions, or be associated with more people that can be leaders. But it is weird that if you have Abernathy farm as a settlement, you should have a few people from there available as leaders.

When you select a city plan, many things are removed in order for the plan to work properly. ie, if you have a workbench item at position x, the city plan may well put a buidling in its vicinity, theeby covering your bench making it useless. Many plans do spawn in workbench item etc, so you can still make stuff as you require. Its just they are in a different position.

If you set the preferences up via the holotape, settlers will auto assign to a bed and a work plot.

As a end note to these first replies, I recommend you watch the KG videos regarding using SS etc. They are helpful. They are not too long and you wont lose interest in them. They cover the basic starting points and explain whats going on.

Hi @RobotsSmell

I don't think I have one of those leader packs downloaded. Should I grab one of those? Maybe Abernathy farm's people might need a mod to enable them, like Leaders of the COmmonwealth?

I'm trying to find the setting that lets settlers auto-pick their bed or residential plot and their work plot (Agri/INdustrial/Martial, etc.). Do you happen to know the path in the holotape options?

As for Starlight... I only have 3 settlers right now in Starlight... so I don't know if it'll build anything once I assign a city leader. :(

Understood on this. It's just a lot to take in at 5 or 6 in the morning. LOL

I'm going through the wiki to watch the videos now though... Starting with IN-Depth SS basic, then Industrial Rev, then Rise of the Commonwealth. :D

Ok. You don't need any leader packs per say, but, if you want to have a glut of leaders available, go for it. I have never added any myself, but that's my preference.
It doesn't matter how many settlers are in your settlement to start with. The beacon in the plan will draw them in, in a timely manner. Your city will then grow as required, over time. The base city will build up to level 1 and add plots as the settlers arrive. Or plots will spawn in, and remain un occupied, until the settlers arrive. If you are desperate for things to happen, look for a spawn settlers mod. But be careful with these, as you have to make sure the settler that's spawned is assigned to your settlement, by you. Otherwise, these spawned in settlers are not assignable.

Yes, it is a lot to take in at 6 am.
