Primary Bug Report You’re Pretty Good… - Quest fails to start and player locked in fist fight mode

I've had an NPC called "Sneake" appear in my Settlement. He challenged me to a fist fight, starting "You're pretty good..." quest, which does not engage afterwards. He just keeps standing there. When I engage him instead, it seems to throw him into permanent hostility state even after I beat him. Unfortunate side effect: the game seems to be set into fist fight mode regardless, because when I ignore his challenge and just move on, I cannot die in my next fight, but go down just like when losing a fist fight. Only after that I can be killed again.

EDIT: Should probably mention that I'm playing on PC

EDIT: After installing hotfix 1.0.0b the fight still would not start. But this time I could finish the quest by engaging and downing him. It's just not a lot of fun when your opponent does not fight back. Maybe the quest is still a bit broken.

I can confirm that this short quest, as fun as it is, needs a little bit polishing :) After the dialogue I had to punch Sneake couple of times before he started fighting back, then Preston, who was my companion, just shot him in the back. Sneake went down very surprised how I was able to beat him and then I could keep him as a settler. I doubt that companion's interfering the fight was supposed to happen. :)

i honestly think that was the fun factor since the quest is supposed to be a parody about him being strong
3 punch him and he goes down all surprised XD I don't think he will ever attack you back... idk need to ask

The unfortunate part is that you can't choose not to get him as a settler and he's flagged essential so you can't even kill him unless you "cheat".
why kill him tho? just banish him to vault 88 (thats where i put all the settlers i dislike) XD

That requires that 1 - You accept the suspension of disbelief that you might incur by allowing him to live when your character would realistically have just killed him (or just banished him), and 2 - you have access to a settlement that you're never going to visit or use.

I have no settlements that I'm not actively using, and I did not like that I was stuck with him constantly being in my face without having any say in the matter.

So I wrote this guy and I can tell you he's supposed to be fairly strong. He's supposed to fight you back and this is indeed a bug.

Yeah, that's what I expected, my character is a squishy sniper, I had all my chems ready to beat that guy and ended with staring contest <insert cicada sound on the background> :D

I met him at Red Rocket when I was walking there from Sanctuary. He challenges me and I was looking for the tear out your #$#$^ option. Anyway I put up my dukes and he...... starts walking away. I wanted a dialog option of "Hey, you come up and call me weak sauce then walk away?" I was quite confused.
So anyway, I put up my dukes and like @Tarkkh said, 3 hit KO. Then Sneake starts some dialog and walks away breaking the conversation. I could no longer interact with him.

So, I load up a save and try again. This time I hit him with the Vit-o-Matic. It says he's assigned to Abernathy. Sneake also told me I'm a cheater and some other things and a prompt came up to send him to a settlement. Aren't you supposed to loose him if you cheat?

So, I load up again. This time I waited for him to walk his self to Abernathy and start an Idle. Similar to the first time he just stands there and lets me 3HKO and things go normal from there.

@LaidBackNinja If you can figure out how to set Sneake as a random encounter, that would be awesome and fit his character. More of the element of surprise, like my experience. More fun than him just standing around some dirty settlement. Also thanks for your contribution. It was fun!

Hey, those are interesting suggestions. Sneake is supposed to come and find you at a settlement because he's heard that you fancy yourself a leadership figure and he wants to challenge that leadership. And yes, if you 'cheat' (although it's not really cheating; Sneake forces you into a position and if you don't want to go along with that it's perfectly fine to play on your own terms) he is supposed to walk off.
I'm sorry Sneake appears to be bugged right now, but there's nothing I can do. I was part of the writing team and I wrote Sneake and his quest but other members of the team implemented all that in-game. I'm a writer but otherwise not much of a modder. I have no control over in-game functionality. Hopefully someone else from the team sees this thread, someone who can solve the bugs.
I actually highly recommend cheating in the duel with Sneake (unless you want him as a settler) because A) why would you play by his rules? and  you'll get some of his best dialogue if you do.

One more Sneake bug: I failed the quest, he should not be here. I can assign him and move settlements but not set as a caravan.(no local leader) He is counted in the 7 settlers. Also, he does not gather with the town meeting gavel. (I suppose, I did fail the quest by shooting him with the Vit-o-Matic)

Edit- It seems this was a bug in workshop framework and has been addressed in the v1.0.0Mbeta.

Fixed a bug where NPCs removed from the workshop system could end up with the workshop factions still applied.

I met him in Sanctuary and fought him. Now he just stands in the same place he was in when I fought him and won't interact with me or the other npcs. It still shows an a quest that hasn't been completed but the beat sneake task has been checked off. I know SS2 doesn't respond well to console commands so I'm reluctant to try to finish the quest that way.

I am actually glad that I have him as a settler, I want to make him a weapon/armour merchant, and build him a shop that looks like riders nest (maybe except chopped rotting body parts....)

Just adding my Sneake issues. I beat him fair and square, if you don't count scum saving. He ran away. An hour or two later, a raider killed me. I popped back up to full health and Sneake was awarded Red Rocket? I reloaded. Much later, I encountered him standing near the sanctuary bridge. I disarmed and started punching him. After a few swings, he started responding. I knocked him down and he just sat there. I walked away. He's still at the bridge. My quest is still active.

If there is anything I learned from Skyrim's brawl bug, it's that unarmed fights are kinda risky.
