Unofficial Patch

I know there are people in differing camps generally about the unofficial patch, but purely in terms of SS do I want to have it?

Thanks. I know at some point, I’m on XBOX by the way, I was having a lot of crashes trying to get around downtown, which is common, and someone suggested trying without Unofficial Patch and it worked. Just wasn’t sure in what ways it directly connected to SS.

Hmm sounds wierd that the unofficial patch should be the cause of this, they don't make many changes to the world itself since it is considered unsafe. It is mostly fixes for dialogue, perks, items, quests and scripts.
I never had any crashes myself downtown with the unofficial patches, it is a pretty heavy area though where alot of things happen so I can see this area pushing machines to the limit if you have many mods.

It may well not have and just been a coincidence. I’m now playing a completely new game with virtually no mods that aren’t SS related and downtown is still laggy and weird but not as bad.

Yeah it probably was the case of just having too many mods activated in a generally laggy area. All mods that add "stuff" is gonna drain performance, unofficial patches should be one of the least performance heavy mods out there but when you hit the limit it doesn't really matter.

LOL. Makes me think of A Christmas Story. That string of lights isn’t exactly causing problems itself, but, “Well... it’s one too many.”

So, just a note here as someone may make use of this info and it may be meaningful to those fixing things.

I started a new game not long ago specifically to not have other mods and test out SS.

I didn’t RotC Sanctuary because I tried that in an earlier game but at level 2 it was just too much.

I RotC Red Rocket and that’s level 3 without many problems.

I think I have similar problems to many, or at least I have issues at the same places. I have Finch Farm at level 2 and I can fast travel there and move around a little, but it crashes, especially if I start ascending any stairs.

I have Greygarden level 2 and don’t really have any problems other than that it will sometimes act a bit laggy and scare me but if I hold still a little it usually is fine to do anything I want.

Jamaica Plain is level 2 and was perfect at level 1 but now is a little tricky and has crashed a couple of times trying to go into the main vanilla house.

I have sunshine tiding level 3 and it seems everything is good there unless I try to get to where the desk apparently moved because there is stuff blocking me from getting to it.

That’s all I have RotC but I have built up Sanctuary with SS and have a fair number of plots but no problems with anything there. I can zip all around like it was vanilla. A couple of other settlements have a couple of SS structures, mainly to get the IDEK logistic stations. Oh and Starlight has a bit of build up. Nothing but RotC has caused any problems though.

Now, here’s why I say all that. I added the unofficial patch and the result was I can’t go anywhere near Sunshine Tidings, if I fast travel it crashes before even “landing” I can’t go to Finch Farm at all either though that was obviously very bad either way. Jamaica Plain let me land but after a couple of steps it crashes. Sanctuary didn’t crash, but didn’t play nearly as well as it did before and it’s laggy and weird. At this point I didn’t bother trying out Greygarden.

I took unofficial patch back off and everything went back to exactly how it was. Still messed up in those ways but no new crashes.

One word of caution regarding Sim Settlements and the Unofficial Patch, only the all DLC version of the Unofficial Patch is still supported. We recommend you DON'T use the vanilla version of the Unofficial Patch with Sim Settlements.

I can’t even find 2 versions of it, but the one I used says requires DLC.

It is on the nexus page under old files, but yes only use the unofficial patch if you have all DLC for Fallout 4, season pass or the GOTY version.

Sorry even though I have mods published on bethnet I constantly forget it exists unless its time to update my mods. >.< I've been on nexus too long.

I’m on Xbox

Oh right sorry I missed that, well then you can only use unofficial patch if you got all DLC. You wouldn't want the old outdated version of unofficial patch anyways since it isn't made for newer versions of the game.

regaring bethesda and modupdate, is it somehow automated? do you get an info if the mod is outdated?

The vanilla (no DLC) unofficial patch was one of the first mods I installed when I learned to use NMM; I later read it was no longer supported, and I also read it wasn't safe to just uninstall it, so I keep it activated in my load order. Other mods, I can just remove without problems. Hopefully, this isn't causing problems. :)

It is safe to remove if you are upgrading to the DLC-required version.

They were on sale just last month, and there SHOULD (emphasis on "should") be a Lunar New Year sale again any time now. You're missing out on a ton of content.

Thanks for the heads up. I like a lot of aspects of FO4, and I like a lot of the mods of FO4, but I'm not much of a fan of the FO4 story/plot/rpg execution, so I'm not sure I'll ever get around to getting the DLCs. I play FO4 like Fallout Shelter. :)
