They came from Planet X! Possible bug?

So I’m currently on the quest named above but I think I’ve encountered a bug with my game, ok so the gist of it to keep things short and sweet is I’ve gotten to the point where you need to go find Nessie (as a Scotsman I love the name) but, and here’s the snag, I’ll leave the cave load back in and as I’m loading in i’ll Hear Katie saying “Nessie’s not at sunshine tidings” then nothing she’ll go right back into the cave so far I’ve tried reloading a previous save got nothing, I’ve tried clearing the area of enemies nadda, I’ve even tried going in and out of then cave over and over hoping she’ll eventually stay out of the cave.

Am I doing something wrong or is this actually a bug?
 
Quick update I was moving onto the main part of the mod and as I was walking around outside vault 81 she randomly walked up to me and opened the conversation menu so if this happens to you try doing another quest and waiting
 
Ok I have also encountered this bug, maybe a slight difference. I am using the latest patch 1.0.13 and latest workshop that goes with it.

When I leave the cave after getting the quest and talking to the family I hear Katie saying something but I cannot find her, I can move and find the dead brahmin OR head to Sunshine Tidings (Or even if I fast travel to someplace) Katie will popup but after speaking to her I cannot interact with anyone else.. like it gets stuck in her speech but I have told her I would go find Franklin.

If I reload and once I find the dead brahmin and go back to the cave EVEN after the quest is turned in and complete and get the Quest complete and new plan, once I head out of the cave Katie again says something but I do not see her, when I fast traveled to another location she spawns and then wants to talk about finding Franklin.

I reloaded a save right after I started the quest in the cave, left the cave, heard Katie but did not see her, found the dead brahmin, went to Sunshine Tidings to learn the location, Katie spawns and wants to talk but this time I just told her to get lost and seems to fix the inability to interact with others after talking to her... not sure if she is bugged or her side quest.. but I can now interact with others and got the quest complete and she no longer spawns after I fast travel.
 
OK so never once have I found the Brahmin dead. First you never go to sunshine once you talk to Katie she sends you a different place. That's Neessies favorite place but it's a red Herring. Katie has the truth.
 
I've done some tinkering/testing on this on various versions; my own games have shown that if you have too many companions with you, the scene with Katie when you exit the cave-farm doesn't trigger correctly, possibly because she can't get to the exact spot the scene says she's "meant" to be. And if the scene STARTS but can't finish (like you get her "Wait up!" line then she runs back inside the cave), she may or may not spawn when you get over to where Jules said the brahmin might be.
Interestingly, the quest doesn't completely break when that happens - you can "complete" it without ever meeting Franklin.
 
I had two companions with me, might have been that.. I can load a previous save and see.. but I went straight to the marker on my map from the mother in the cave and it went right to the dead Brahmin... let me load a save right before I start that quest and dismiss my companions.
 
Ok I went and loaded a save, got rid of my two companions (Heather and Darlene) and samething happened when leaving the cave... I heard Katie say (Hello...) and nothing else and no Katie... now I will admit it could be another mod I have.. possibly "Boston Natural Surroundings" which does add foliage and trees around areas. During the quest to track down the gunners the cut scenes in that were blocked by that mod but they did play out I just could not see the NPC I was talking to.

That landscape mod might not be fully compatible to this mod, however I did indeed find the dead Brahmin at the exact point of the marker which was due west of Sunshine thus I did not get to Sunshine prior to that cutscene with Katie there. Once I discovered the dead Brahmin I could go back and tell the mother it was dead, which I did.

Also, when speaking to Katie, it does not like "finish" the conversation even though I said I would go find Franklin and she finishes her part by reminding me NOT to hurt him. This... could also be an issue with another mod possibly, I mostly used Thuggysmith's recommended mod list found on Nexus.
 
I've had the conversation not actually "finish" too, but as long as the quest and its marker updates properly, as far as I've seen you're fine to just walk off at that point.

Yeah you are not getting the quest going the right way. I don't want to spoil but that's not how it goes. Nessie is not dead not at all. You never even go towards the Co-op! You have a broken quest and thugyverse is known to mess up NPC interactions. Especially Project Valkyrie and Outcasts and Remnants and also Fusion City

Oh I am not using his mods (Depravity, etc) just his "mod list" he created, well some of them for a base. Yeah I think it might be the landscape mod.. that is the only thing I can think of that would cause an issue right there. I would try to do a save without that mod installed... actually I might and see what happens...

Edit: Ok, I just tried without companions and without the landscape mod and get the exact same issue. I am well past that quest now in my normal save so not worried about it.. I just never got Franklin not a big deal. Just wish I knew what might have caused it so I could help others that might have the same issue.

To bad Franklin's encounter is funny as hell and so is he.

I had one game where the scene triggered after exiting the cave. The Player and Codsworth were occupying the same coordinates so I spent the conversation looking through Codsworth's head... I wonder if this would be fixed by adding a delay between exiting the cave and the start of the scene with Katie?

Technical: Add Wait(2.0) to OnPlayerTeleport just before the line that starts the scene.

I know this is an old thread, but I had this happen when playing with the latest SS2 version and Chapter 2 installed. I had Heather, Darlene, and Dogmeat with me. However, I just continued to walk towards Sunshine camp and before I reached it, Katie showed up and told me where I needed to go. Everything worked fine the rest of the way. Never had to dismiss anyone.
