Question Returning FO4 & SS1 player Problems with Holotape

Hi,
Sorry but as I wanted to play FO4 and use SS1 as I used to a while back I now cannot find the Holotape/assams in the museum.
I have played with a fresh start only mod was SS1, I played getting the holotape via console but the pipboy message repeated constantly when I was to press "OK".
I tried using NMM and vortex (which drives me nuts) to load the mod ok.
I tried saving outside the museum then reloading and still no holtape.
I tried a new game with ONLY SS1 loaded....no holotape. I need this great mod again as I can't play the entire FO4 with dumb settlers.
I use a Win 10 pc.
Any help please for a very frustrated player.

Just to make sure - what version of Fallout 4 are you on? You can check this from the main menu under Settings - in the box that pops up the version is shown in tiny letters in the bottom right. Sim Settlements (1 and 2) requires FO4 version 1.10.162 or later.

Good! Do you have HUD framework? This can sometimes interfere with the holotape spawning, see the wiki here for solution.
If the holotape still doesn't function or spawn in the museum, that means the SS1 scripts are missing or overwritten. You could try do to a manual installation, as per here. If that doesn't work, try double checking again that there are no "remnants" of old versions of Sim Settlements in your Data folder or Mod Manager. If that doesn't work, it's unlikely that it's a mod conflict since you tried with only SS1 loaded. Still, if there is a Scripts folder in your Fallout 4/Data folder, you could try to temporarily rename this to something ("ScriptsBackup") to ensure that no old leftover loose file are stopping SS1 from working.

Thanks Tinuvia I will try those out and let you know it goes.

Hi Tinuvia,
Still no holotape.
I disabled Hud Framework, I deleted the 3 SS files in the Data directory then I did a manual install as per advice. i then renamed the scripts folder as you advised renamed to scriptsBackup and loaded a save in front of the museum. Again fought my way again to the room and nothing there. I've made my way to that room so many times to find nothing it's depressing !
I'm out of ideas but I need ss to work.

Is Workshop Framework "Above" SS1 in your load order? :umnik2

Is this a clean-restart? :scratchhead

Console

help “city manager” 4

Do you get anything?

Hi, from reading your post about how you followed the wiki with disabling HUD framework etc - did you make sure to disable SS and HUD framework, then load the game, save and exit game (this part about making a save with neither mod enabled is important for clearing out the old scripts from your save), then enabling only SS and loading that save you just made, check the tape and ASAMs are in place and then load the holotape and click ok, and only after this save game, exit and enable HUD framework.

Sorry for asking something that you may have already done, but this particular order of doing things is important - and this almost always fixes the missing holotape.

If you are on pc you can use the console when you have entered the museum doors and write “kah” (no citations). This will kill all the raiders nearby.

No worries about asking me things....your helping and I'm grateful. I will repeat the wiki and make sure to disable both SS and HUD framework (though I don't have HUD framework installed just now then load the game ,save and exit the game. Then enabling only SS and load the latest save then check the Holotape/Asam's , then save again, exit and enable HUD framework.
1 question, am I ok loading my save still stood outside the museum or do I need to start a fresh game and the tedium of running to Concord again?

Hi Tinuvia,
I repeated the directions and I am now the proud and relieved owner of the Holotape & asam's. I cannot thank and praise you enough for the kind help you gave me.
Thank you once again :)

Wohoo!! I'm so glad it worked! I was just going to answer about the save outside the museum being ok (which should and I guess did work?). Excellent!

ok so I got the holotape and asams from the museum, I activate it in the pipboy and rescue the 5 and escort them to Sanctuary. I build an Agri plot and try to assign Sturgess or the whining woman or the other man and they will run to the plot but won't work on it and wander away shortly afterwards. I'm also showing no settlers at top of my screen, is this a setting I need to change?
no doubt I will have something else messed up.
any help appreciated.

This is an odd one, I've actually never seen them not counting as settlers. Have you talked to Preston yet when you are in Sanctuary? If you look at your Quests tab, Is When Freedom Calls completed? Has the quest The First Step started?

Hi,
Yep When Freedom Calls completed, and First steps started. Sturgess asked me to provide beds, then water and now food. Beds and water sorted but I can't get them to tend the plots. I have asams on the plots and showing they need a settler but any settler I select will run to the plot but not work. Beds and water levels show up ok but no settlers? i'm stuck.

This is so odd, I have never seen the Quincy five not count as settlers in all my play throughs. There seemed to be a vanilla bug that could happen where When Freedom Calls didn't complete properly meaning they didn't register - but that's not the case for you.

Hm. There is a function in the City Manager holotape that attempts to refresh the workshop data of the settlement you are in, but I think this only applies to the data used for Sim Settlements. It might be worth a try anyway? I don't have a save with SS1 so I'm going by the info on the SS1 wiki for the holotape options. If you don't find it here you may need to look around in the other options: Tools/Configuration Tools/Data Resets/Rebuild Local Data

Have you built a radio beacon, and if so do those settlers count in the workshop?

I'm really stumped, someone else might have an idea if you add a bit more info, like a screenshot of the workshop with the 0 settler count and your load order?

I have only recently built the recruitment beacon ,still shows 0 settlers (does it take time to attract any settlers?). Workshop itself still shows 0 people. It shows; 0 people,0 food, 0 def, 6 beds,9 water and happiness 50.
Pressing space in the workshop shows the following options: Mange Settlement, Scrap Settlement ,Configure Build Limits and Cancel.
I didn't look in the City Manager Holotape for a refresh option but I will look now.
