Question Returning FO4 & SS1 player Problems with Holotape

Hi,
Sorry but as I wanted to play FO4 and use SS1 as I used to a while back I now cannot find the Holotape/assams in the museum.
I have played with a fresh start only mod was SS1, I played getting the holotape via console but the pipboy message repeated constantly when I was to press "OK".
I tried using NMM and vortex (which drives me nuts) to load the mod ok.
I tried saving outside the museum then reloading and still no holtape.
I tried a new game with ONLY SS1 loaded....no holotape. I need this great mod again as I can't play the entire FO4 with dumb settlers.
I use a Win 10 pc.
Any help please for a very frustrated player.
 
:scratchheadHuh, what happens in the workshop if you try to “move” them, as if to another settlement?
Just curious?

If it was a modded settlement this would make sense if the workshop or loadorder caused a glitch.

Oh, BTW did you touch that workshop or move it with place anywhere by any chance?

have you removed any mods “anything” even a different location, that in anyway modified or added a settlement in this save file?

Hi RayBo,
I only have Sanctuary as my only settlement so I can't move anything to another . I'm still having problems getting any of the ex-Concord party to work on an Agri plot. I don'
t know how to screenshot what my workshop shows when I open it up or to post my Vortex load order.
red Rocket workshop keeps telling me there are enemies nearby even though I killed the nearby rats?
 
At RR try a very simple console command

And then type
KAH
Hit enter

KAH = kill all hostiles

At RR I consoled kar but no change still getting you have enemies nearby ( I killed the molerats that popped up +those in the cave.)
I hopefully attached my load order as per video (thanks for that guide).

When you did the testing earlier to get the holotape to spawn in the museum you renamed the Scripts folder to make sure you didn’t have conflicting leftover scripts - did you rename this one back to Scripts again?
 
So you only want one Scripts folder (the renaming was meant to be temporary to figure out why the holotape didn’t spawn in the museum).

I think when you enabled your mods, your mod manager made you a new Scripts folder, but this one might not have all the necessary scripts (since some may be in the ScriptsBackup).

Now, to solve this: since your game is behaving weirdly, I think not all scripts are available to the game. I can think of two ways to solve this, I’m not sure which one is best.

1) Fast method: copy the contents of ScriptsBackup to Scripts, overwriting as needed.

2) Clean but slower and riskier: Disable all your mods, remove both Scripts and ScriptsBackup (move them to your desktop or somewhere you can find them in case things get worse) from the Data folder and then re-enable all the mods. If you have F4SE, you also need to redownload and install that (unless you have set it up as a mod in Vortex). This way your mod manager can make you a clean new Script folder with only the scripts you need for your save.
 
Thanks I will try the clean but slow method and come back with results ( it will be in a while cos it's late here ) ;-)
With the risk of another lengthy reply ;) the reason why this is a clean method is that it will remove any possible leftovers from old mods you may have had that had loose files and weren’t uninstalled completely by your mod manager. So if you know for sure that you don’t have any lingering old mods you can do the Fast method instead.

The reason why it’s risky is that if you have any mods that are not handled by Vortex but have scripts, those will also need to be reinstalled. The only one I can think of is F4SE, but there could be others and they are harder to remember that one has installed since they aren’t listed in the load order.

I’m sorry I wasn’t more clear about the script folder renaming being temporary. :(

I just noticed that you have Scrap Everything installed. This is a mod that doesn’t always play nice with Sim Settlements since it breaks the optimization system in FO4 (it’s called Precombines and lets the game load one big chunk of things instead of many little things) in settlements. This is how you can scrap those annoying brambles and leaf piles, but it also risks the game crashing if you build up the settlements with lots of plots and settlers.
 
well I disabled all mods, removed both the script folders to desktop. I already had F4se manually installed recently so left it alone.I re-enabled my mods (not all) I left "scrap Everything" off.
I loaded a save up and workshop menu (V button) still shows no settlers. I supplied beds and water as requested by Sturges and put a test agri plot behind the workshop building but still couldn't get any to work it.

I'm also still getting a message at the RR workshop to kill enemies in the location despite killing all mole rats and using kah in the console.
I'm running out of ideas and you must be getting fed up too, I'm grateful for the help.
 
You actually have to reinstall F4SE. It includes a lot of loose scripts that were in the Scripts folders we now removed. When you have those scripts back, hopefully things will start getting better!

EDIT: oh, I’m still game for more troubleshooting as long as you have the patience to keep trying :)

Make sure your Mod-Organizer displays the base game as such, the DLC must be in this order:

Test your Game on a clean save "NO MODS"

If good then try Fo4 with basic mods only, I like to make another clean save:

In most cases, it is ok to add mods after starting but for now don't "uninstall mods after starting a save"

Wow that was some reply . I'm grateful that you continue to help through this tangled web of problems, thanks. I will go through all your suggestions (including a fresh install of F4se after watching Gopher again). I have no CC files installed , gimme some time to work through the steps and I will return. One of the mods I would EVENTUALLY like to install is the 50 Loving Hearts (basicaly 50 possible settlers).
In the meantime have a great Christmas and a more settled and safe new year.

Hi All,
I hope you all had a great and safe Christmas. This an update on the state of my game so far. I followed the guide from Gamer Poets excellent video and did a clean install of FO4,deleting all the files as shown. Uninstalling the game in Steam and reinstalling again. Starting FO4 from the Steam library then after it detects the Vid card exiting. I then verified the files (all ok)
I have no mods installed from a saved game and my character is stood in front of the vault lift, so I have not left the vault yet.
In my earlier attempt I had a problem with Cosworth not searching with me for bugs he just kep returning to his starting position. I sorted that with a Nexus Mod.
I have not left the vault yet but I will shortly. Hopefully Cosworth is not glitched?
I have no DLC's loaded and I do it manually into the Data folder, should I do it after rescuing the Concorde 5 ? I would need one of the SS versions installed to get the Holotape hopefully. I have not yet installed F4SE.
I will wait a little while for any replies before leaving the vault.

Hi again! Hope you had a great Christmas too! Sorry for the late answer.

It sounds like you have done a thorough cleaning for the new year, everything should be spick and span now.

I'm not very good at general troubleshooting (I spend much more time testing mods than playing), but Raybo is really good. Until you get an answer from him, here's the link to his general troubleshooting guides "Baking a save game" where he has a table on which mods he usually enables at what times in starting up a new character.

I do think that your problems before was mostly due to the HUD framework glitch that wouldn't allow the holotape to spawn, and that you fixed beautifully. The other problems with unresponsive settlers etc I think was due to our renaming of the scripts folder. So with a setup that is now clean, you should be good to go!

Thanks for reply. I will look at the Raybo "Baking a save game " guide. I'm assuming I still will need the HUD Framework mod installed?
I will leave the vault go to speak to Cosworth as usual and see if he works ok. I will then get off to Concorde AFTER I have installed either SS1 or SS 3in1 Which is better I'm not sure. Fingers crossed to end this saga....!
 
HUD framework is not required to play SS1 or SS2, but it's highly, highly recommended. With it, you get the nice extra menus in workshop mode that lets you know what your settlers need. So I think it's worth installing, especially since you now know what to do if the holotape is missing in the museum (if you do SS1).

If you have the space, I would get SS 3in1. It has all the new things from the two expansions (Rise of the Commonwealth and Industrial Revolution) already included.

I will install SS3in1 and HUD framework following recommendations from RayBo's guides showing WHEN to install mods at specific times in FO4.
I'm off shortly to leave the vault into an unknown world, hopefully all goes well. I will report back .
