1) Crashes only occur when outside, never while inside (interior cells).

2) Crashes straight to desktop without any freezing or error messages. Just blink and I'm starting at my desktop again.

3) Can't say for 100% is caused by SS2 (like everyone else, I'm running plenty of other mods as well) but this particular type of recurring crash only started when I switched to SS2 (and started a new game, before anyone asks)

4) Crash is definitely on some kind of timer. Meaning that every time I reload the crash will happen act the same moment in time rather than by any other discernible trigger. It doesn't matter if I move, shoot, jump, fast travel or fiddle with a workshop, when the clock hits a certain point the game blinks to desktop... unless I clean the save file first.

5) I can temporarily prevent it by cleaning the save file with ReSaver, and every time that I do I get the same issue - something needs to be cleaned via "Remove non-existent form instances" - because there is always a new one present when I go to load the most recent save after a crash. To be more exact, I play for a bit, make a quick/autosave, game crashes, I clean the file, I reboot the game, I play for a bit more without the crash happening at that predetermined point on the clock, make a quick/autosave, and eventually the game blinks to desktop again. When I load my new save in ReSaver, ta-da, there is the bad form instance again.

6) I'm no programmer, but I get the feeling that it is linked to new building unlocks. The reason I say this is that on more than one instance of this occurring when I loaded a repaired savefile and hit the point in time where the game was crashing before it instead shows a pop-up a new building type being unlocked. What is particularly odd about this is that it has always been a building type that I already had unlocked from before.

I hope this helps!

I used to get crashes in SS after upgrading my system. After playing around a bit it seemed to me like they were caused by scripts running on frames and my framerate being too high which causes too many scripts to run at once and it crashes.

What worked for me was running the game in Borderless Windowed mode. That locked it to 60FPS and stopped the crashing for me. Perhaps give that a try?

I will indeed try that and report back, thanks!

Just checked - it seems that I was already in borderless window mode. I did notice that in FalloutPrefs.ini it was giving a different resolution than my actual display, however. Going to try synching those values next and checking to make sure my FPS is properly throttled.

I did notice this and will now transcribe it:

"There are 63 stacks and 88 frames, which may indicate a problem.

FPFP_BaseDataCreatorEffectScript occurs the most often (40 occurrences)"

Well, I updated to today's version of SS (1.0.0b) and now literally all my saves are "corrupted" and I have to start over. So it might be a while before I can look into this more.

I ran into a similar problem, except mine always happens on game start of a saved game. deactivating a SS 2 addon allowed me to continue until the next time I tried to re-load the game. looking through this conversation it looks like I might have a conflict going with two FPS manager mods I'm running: FO4I_FPS_fix-ENG and High FPS Physics Fix. I'm going to try deactivating these and see if that fixes my issue.

I run the high FPS physics fix mod for the faster loaded and get no crashes. The fo4i mod is a precombine mod mods to fix the commonwealth precombines aren’t needed unless you are precombineing multiple mods into a stable patch. So fo4i and beantown interiors tales from the common wealth then the fo4i patches for them but theres no need to just run the fo4i mod or Boston FPS fix if you are not running mods that break precombines.

i Would run your load order through fo4edit and see what errors you are getting but broken precombines don’t normally cause ctd‘s it just causes your FPS to become unstable in dense areas or causes objects to come in and out of view.

Alright, started a whole new game and I can say two things about this bug with absolute certainty now:

1) It is definitely the SS2 mod, as I played for two hours without any issues. Only after I started the Stranger's quest line did the crashing resume.

2) It is definitely caused by new building unlocks. I had one of those fixed-time crash points but after a bit of ReSaver fiddling I went back and at the exact moment that the crash had been occurring it now gave me the pop-up for a new building type. In this case, "Mama Murphy's Shack" but I had seen others in the past as well. I literally stood there with a watch set to countdown mode and yes, the timing synch was down to the second. Two crashes, ReSave fix, then a house pop-up and it carried on after that point without crashing (at least for now - we'll see what happens when the next building unlocks).

I hope this helps!

Still haven't found a solution but I did find a workaround, in case anyone else run into this problem. I just went into ModManager, opened up SS2, went down the cheat menu and unlocked every building. No more pop-ups, thus no more crashes.
