Low FPS and Crashes

Sweet, that ought to come in handy. Checking vc redistributables may be worth considering as well. I found I was missing the 2015 x64 and had no idea that there was a 2017 out. Totally unscientifically, installing them seemed to make a noticeable difference both in general performance and when a settlement loads in.

LOOT is actually a program, like a mod manager that organizes your files - so it's not available on Xbox. It would be nice if Bethesda would add an Auto-Sort button, to at least do basic sorting to solve conflicts - maybe next game...

Yeah, that would be nice. Not holding my breath though.

A thought..... Do you need the game for the PC in order to download the mods?
I only ask because I was thinking if I downloaded them on my laptop, used loot to optimize load order, then duplicate that order on my xbox.

I pretty much do exactly this, though I do own the game for PC and for Xbox...well, and for the PS4 too.....

Oh that's a clever idea. If you use Nexusmods.com, then you don't need to have the game - LOOT though, might be confused. You could try tricking it by creating the directory structure, though it might need the game files.

By default the mods go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout 4\Data\

Thanks KG. I'm no programming guru, but I'll let you know if this works.

Ever try it without the game installed on your PC?
I honestly haven't. I had purchased my PC version first. I'd be curious to see if Kinggath's suggestion works there. Unless LOOT is actively checking for the actual game files, there's no reason is wouldn't work.

I have come up with an Error on nexus mod manager that says game needs to be installed (all mods uninstalled). Which it was. I just run game through steam one time to setup the game ini files it is looking for... I just do sanctuary hills till I can exit at the character creation in the mirror (required only once to fix this warning). I use FO4SE (run as administrator).

I have also had a problem with fps after complete re-install of mods. Same fix except I only need to get to the splash screen (from steam start FO4) and options detect video settings. Exit and then restart FO4SE.

For those on PC, discovered just last night, playing with my NVidia card settings, several rendering settings, how many frames to pre-render, power management, etc... setting was let 3D application manage, or optimal power.

I nixed everything that let's the 3D application manage (FO4) and set for maximum in all cases, maximum performance, max pre-rendered, etc. The tab where the rotating NVidia symbol also needs to be changed from 3D application to maximum performance.

I tried it last night while trying out "50 ways to die"... cant wait to try SS tonight - went from a 20fps in the shop with the dancing ghoul girl, to a solid 60fps using fps limiter on ENB hotkey.

Hope this helps.
John

Thank you John for the help. I got the error message about the game not installed, though I have no clue how to use LOOT. As for all the rest you said......that was all Greek to me. Fps was the only thing I understood.

I use 'Insignificant object remover' that helps alot and i use 'Nytra's performance tweaks' which disables god rays and lens flares.
I've found over time that lighting ( having too much ) and Enb's especially foggy ones really hurt you, i also try to spread stuff out as much as possible.
These are console observations (Xbox) but it would be the same for others. :)

Only because of the sim-settlements there are crashes of game. Mabe mod is not optimized fully, or it needs an unrealistically powerful PC. After building sanctuary up to 2 levels - there you can not move any more, there is a game crach. Especially not built up full. Just a couple of three settlements captured just for the test. The settlers left the lane of the Hanged man to the second - there too it is impossible, up to 81 Vault, but there too I catch the "Completion of the program." In English forums, that on the nexus, that the site of the mod - the same problems for many users. There have not yet found a solution.I came to help. That i must done to fix crashes. Delet the mod i totaly disagree. Mod are good and interesting. Sorry for bad English.

All of a sudden my framerate has dropped from 40fps + to about 12-15fps.
It happened right as I entered the Fort to find Kellog, and sadly has persisted after completing that quest. I had topped off the scrap on several settlements, and I remember seeing a lot of plot upgrade messages.

Things are a bit fuzzy but I believe this happened before I updated everything to the Battle for Bunker hill patch.

I've gone into my game options (bethesda launcher) and drastically reduced my settings.
Basically turned off all image enhancing options. Up till then I was running on ultra and the game was smooth as glass.
I've done the same in nvidia control panel
I ran the performance tool in city management holotape from my pipboy and told it my graphics settings are low
I also used the tool to reset the building limit to default.

No noticeable effect. Game is just about unplayable.
How can I find out what's causing this? Is there a way to profile the engine to see what the culprit is?

Thanks!

I'd start by rolling up a new character to see if it's even related to your save (which is the only place the SS performance options would have an effect). If the problem remains in a brand new save, I'd assume the issue is one of three things:

1. Recent update to windows or your drivers. If so, check your video card's drivers to see if there are new ones available that might address this.
2. Game file corruption. If it's this, then using Steam's option to revalidate your files should resolve it.
3. Hardware failure. This is the least likely, but it's possible you have a hard drive or video card issue causing everything to run poorly.

Thank you for the response Kinggath. I'm giddy, this is like meeting a celebrity!

But I'm a little red-faced, too (embarrassment, not anger.)
I was re-reading the wiki article linked in the top post, and discovered that I missed something significant during my first readthrough.
The Scrap Mod Problem

I do have scrap everything installed (or did up until about a minute ago!) and had recently scrapped a bunch of stuff (trash, rocks, clutter, etc) in Jamaica Plains because I was up against the build limit. It was at L0 with 100% of scrap needed and would not upgrade, but defense was not topped off and I couldn't build a turret. In retrospect, I bet that if I had just waited, a settler would have created something defense related and I'd have been fine. My impatience got the best of me.

I won't be able to test for several more hours yet (till I get home from work) but I'll bet a dollar to a donut that scrap everywhere (or more specifically, me using it to scrap stuff in an attempt to push my settlement development along) caused my issue.

I'll be sure to update. Thanks again for the response, and please accept my apology for not reading more carefully.

So just a followup post like I promised..
Scrap Everywhere was the culprit. I have all of my graphics settings back to ultra again, ran sim settlements performance wizard to set sim settlements options to ultra, and getting 30 fps +, where I was getting 10-12 before.
Happy happy happy
