So decided to come back to Fallout 4 and mod it to bits. I recall looking at Sim Settlements some time ago and liked it. However, it has now grown a lot. What would people recommend i add to my mod list from the Sim Settlements selection for a brand new play through?

    Many thanks.

Welcome to the forums. I see this a lot. One thing I can't stress enough is that you will need some patience. Just like a building project IRL, nothing gets built overnight. If you decide to use a city plan, do not be surprised if you see strange things... like a part of a building or fence hanging in mid air with no visible means of support. Something will usually connect to it eventually.

One structure I feel you must build is IDEK's Logistics station. I loathe micro management and this structure saves a lot of extra work. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/28945
I find it indispensable because it can automatically set up and take care of caravans between your settlements. It also allows your settlements to pool and share resources. Food, water, even building materials.

You also don’t have to mess around with the Local Leader perk.

Unfortunately if you want to build crafting stations you do. Many of the plots have crafting weapon and armor stations that are not usable.

Also if you own the new Virtual Reality CC items you do for the new water tanks (outside of VR, since in VR ignores al reqs.) Someone actually put local leader as a requirement on them, lol.

However, if you do not need to build craft stations and such you can basically avoid being forced into that charisma path.

The IDEKs are also awesome because they will work with the CC VR settlements.

WS+ and the new Free Build mode can bypass Local Leader requirements.

I think that I need to make a video demoing that feature.

Sorry, I was not aware Workshop Plus had Free Build. I stopped using Workshop Plus because I had serious conflicts while using the autosave combined with falling damage immunity causing one of those pain in the ass HP bugs.

Yeah the Free Build in the VR workshop is kinda nice especially when you have some build projects in mind. Which by the way, the self destruct option works in VR, I was kinda worried a bit about the SS not having a scrap profile, guess I was being paranoid.

Being able to construct workstations and actual stores is the only reason I bother with Local Leader. Which the only reason I had the stores was to recruit the rares like Smiling Larry, Doc Anderson, The Scribe, and the cook. However I have found out that a SS plot will qualify as a store to be eligible to hire them.

Yeah, I always recruit them to an appropriate SS plot.

Yeah well its a matter of having that right plot ready when you find them. :P

Aint nothing worse than your first meeting with Carla deciding to give you The Scribe or Smiling Larry at the encounter that spawns at the intersection. Simply because you know you probably wont see them the rest of that game, lol.

Ron Staples and Doc Anderson are easy to farm at any campsite location, provided your random encounter seed allows it. If you aint seen one of them after about 30 camp sites then most likely you aint going to see them until Act II.

    Workshop+ is a must have.

And the only reason I have encountered "damage" and certainly not a bug, is if you fall from so far up in the sky and lag in the reactivation of workshop (especially if you have a million build items) mode before hitting the ground.

Which realistically I am never that high.

I stopped building anything I had to fly to build. If I can not walk up and build normally then that means some settler can not get down later.
