Generators keep breaking

Just started an hardcore run and every time i come back to my base i find the generator broken needing repairs. Cannot use a power plot because i dont have them yet and considering that i need pop 8 to finish 'If i have a hammer' it will be for a long time because my base is not Sanctuary but, for a change, Sunshine COOP and i cannot assign Preston gang to houses and jobs, just the 5 i have, and we know recruiting is very slow
Sunshine is more subject than Sanctuary to attacks but i dont think i missed 'base under attack' messages every time even if the time you have to read messages is WAY TOO SHORT

I dont like city plans. In SS1 i always got plans with the landing mat kilometers away from the workshop and almost always a lot of doors to open and stairs to climb to go from workshop to desk. In SS2 i tried a few times but every time the settlement didnt develop at all even if i donated tons of mats and caps.
I dont know how a plan is made but for early plans, like Sanctuary and Abe farm putting down material production is first priority while for late plans, that are supposed to be started when you have a network, the first thing to build is the caravan

You can always make yourself a simple city plan that has exactly the things you want in it, where you want them/can find them. It's laughably easy, especially if you just need a single level plan to get the save moving. Then to avoid the need to build all those residential and industrial plots just skip to the appropriate quest.

I have enough experience in programming, being a retired engineer, to know that only 'Hello World' is laughably easy. Maybe it's just create a plot as i like and then write the build order list without conditional branches like 1 Caravan, 2 Water 3 Power, 4 Five single houses.

I'll give it a try

Grab the Add-On Maker's Toolkit, there's a PDF tutorial series for city plans included for light reading (although it truly isn't harder than grab an export in-game and plug it into the webtool which does all the work for you).

Thanks, i'll studi al the instructions. Happy it's an old school pdf and not a youtube video, for a not english speaking having a written text makes things a lot easier. From a first view it looks like i just need to build my town export it and use a web tool to convert the town in a .esm file. Looks easy enough to be worth a try. Need just to search how to establish building priorities, but i dont think it will be a big problem.
