CTD when walking near or entering a settlement

As the title says, however, fast travelling causes no issues. But if I walk out of the settlement and try to walk back, CTD. It started to happens on a old save after the last patch. Those settlements are not huge, around 10 settlers. Can't find any common factors, So I'm at lost. LO attached.

So, since I still have acces to problematic settlement, (through fast travel), I went into a settlement and removed all plots, walked out of the settlement and walked back without any CTD. Built the same plots, walked out and back in of the settlement without CTD. Travelled far and wide on the map and came back walking into the settlement, no CTD. Will see how it goes for other settlements with the same problem.

Are you playing with plots set to be able to automatically upgrade without your input? This seems more common if you are, but changing that doesn't completely eliminate it either.

To YaugieLC: not sure, cause sometimes upgrading need my input, sometimes it dosen't.
To Din'elen: .17b. Just tested it. Fast travelled to Vault 95 then tried to walk in to Somerville: CTD. Reloaded the game and I fast travelled directly into the settlement without any problems. Upgraded one plot. Fast travel to Vault 95, came back walking into Somerville and CTD.

I've noticed that you've got 'Clean my settlement' on there, and at this point lots of us are quite wary about the impacts that some of the scrapping mods can make on system loads and stability. Additionally, you're running "Workshop Rearranged" which hasn't been updated since 2018, so I'm wondering if that is conflicting with SS2 in some way. Add to this 'Start Me Up', a bunch of the 'Clean and Simple' settlements, and a number of 'Transfer Settlements' items - overall, a bunch of things that are flagged as known issues on the wiki: https://wiki.simsettlements2.com/en/getting-started/known-issues

That one in particular is about as "safe" as it's possible to make one of those mods.

Maybe it’s a plot specific issue or plot plan specific. You could try changing the plot plans although I have not had issues with any recently. Can you get into the settlement at all to open the workshop ?

Game only CTD when I walk in into the settlement, fast travelling causes no issue. Inside the settlement, I can save, quit and reload without any problems. The workshop works fine.

id say if workshop works scrap the settlement down to nothing then rebuild or just skip that one.
Thats quite odd, normally its the other way round.
Yes that’s what normally happens when it’s scrap or power related or anything normal. I still think it may be a specific plot and plan causing this but that’s a little more tricky to figure out. Could just be the game engine having a hard time loading something causing the crash , but since fast traveling in gives you the loading screen it’s allowed the time needed to load in what ever is causing the issue.

honestly though this one is kinda of a stumper cause narrowing down something that’s opposite of what’s expected is harder to do.

Hello, registered to add to this thread - I'm getting constant CTDs around one settlement in particular, Taffington Boathouse. CTDs happen consistently when I approach the settlement or try to fast travel to it.
Thing that confuses me that it's not exactly a crash, but actually an R6025 pure virtual function call error (which I read is caused not even byt he game but by faulty or incomplete vcredist libraries, though I reinstalled them all and the issue persists), so I must admit I'm not exactly sure that this mod is at fault, but it appears to be the case because it started happening after I built a settlement there. There was a remote settlement reset in old SS1, isn't it in SS2? Because the area is totally off limits for me.

This has to be a issue with a plot cause it sounds kinda similar to when the gambling plan for the recreation plot would crash sanctuary for me. That was fixed a while ago though so has to be a new one causing trouble maybe an add on has a bad plan or something.

id try changing all your recreation and store plots. See if that helps if not change the stores and check again then work each plot type till you can rule them all out.

You mean in the affected settlement? How can I do that outside of it, remotely? Cause, like I said, I can't get to it in any way. Or you mean ALL of recreation and store plots? Because that can prove to be problematic - I got many settlements and run SS2 in Automatic mode.

Or you mean to troubleshoot plot types one by one to see what exactly causes the issue? That can be challenging, I'm not really deep into SS2, I just use it as an easy way to build settlements for me.

Erm, I don't understand what's happening anymore. I just tcl-ed my way to the settlement through the air and it didn't crash. I tried to load my game from there to repeat the process - and the game just had a clean CTD this time, no errors. I tried to reproduce what I did with no luck. I'm mighty confused at this point.

I've had this problem throughout the life of SS2 and also SS1. I've concluded that it happens if I advance towards a settlement too quickly, the game can't update the LOD (Level Of Detail) quickly enough and either the settlment appears to missing most of the plots or it does a CTD. When it happens, I reload, then I walk towards the settlement a short distance, pause a moment, walk a short ways, pause etc. At certain pauses I can see buildings appearing and I wait until it finishes. This way I'm able to walk in without it crashing.

After some investigating, I found that disabling AI (tai) actually lets me inside the affected area and I can move to the settlement. But then trying to save, load, toggle AI back crashes the game. I tried to disable the building plan with destruction of everything already built in the settlement and disable all of the Settlers in it to completely clean it up, then returning away from the affected area. Toggling AI back on didn't crash the game, but saving sure did.
I'm not sure this mod is to blame now at all. Now I don't even know where to go with such an issue.

Also moving far enough from the affected territory after being there crashes the game. This is awful.
