CTD after The Castle upgrades to level 1.

I'm also having this issue with The Castle once it upgrades to level 1, does anyone know if future upgrades fixes this issue? For instance when it gets to 2 or 3 will it resolve the CTD? I'm also having a similar issue in Somerset(?) I just built it and waited for the scripts to finish (once all the houses and business notifications finished) and tried to build a generator for some missile turrets and got a CTD as soon as I plopped the fusion generator. This happened three times in a row. The fourth time I actually rested for an hour and then tried, I was allowed to build the generator and the turrets but while I was attaching power lines I got yet another CTD. This is like my tenth Rise settlement and all of the others I was able to build fusion generators and turrets without an issue. I actually have very few mods (20ish?) but most are fairly DLC sized like Project X adding entire new areas (though Project X does tend to make use of current areas from what I've seen). Maybe I just have too many scripts running? I know that used to be an issue with Skyrim, though I know very little about modding beyond becoming a semi-pro when it came to forcing mods to play well together for Skyrim.
 
The crashing from power related things is a save level corruption that occurs in settlements sometimes. It's not specific to any particular settlement or mod, it's something I've show to Bethesda, but so far they don't seem to show any interest in fixing it.
 
So there's a good chance my generators in the Castle is what caused my issue there too then. That's kinda a shame, the part of the main questline that I need to go the Castle for isn't done yet, maybe I'll try to find a way to cheese it with the console. Thanks for the reply mate.
 
Is there any fix to this issue? I am also experiencing CTD in Castle, and its also happening on other settlements as they are leveling up.
 
The fix is generally to remote destruct the settlement from the holotape. It's a sign your game has too much going on and can't handle the extra load beyond the build limit.
 
What I've taken to doing in sanctuary and castle since those seem like big load issue areas is letting sim settlements build the skeleton and then cancelling the automation and building the rest of the settlement myself. It's not as fulfilling as watching it grow over time but I haven't had an issues since I did it that way.
 
Well, in my case, I cant even approach the settlement before it CTD. Fast travel or walk approach, I CTD. And the only save far enough to let me visit Castle makes me lose a ton of progress (like 30+ hours). The best I could do was that I used a console commando to teleport to the Castle Chambers and the Settlement HUD appears and Im “close” enough for the game to let me destroy the settlement. But even then, I still crash trying to approach or Fast travel.
 
Do you have it on automatic upgrade? In my case, I had to deactivate the flyover animation, then it usually upgraded just fine
