Discussion [Community Idea] ♣Plot Ideas / Requests♤ Thread & Google Sheet

I have been semi-planning to make some basic-looking internal ag plots (“basic-looking” as in “my artistic skills are awful - and unlikely to improve soon”). External ag are also an option, lower priority.

Two basic concepts:

Crop rotation - three crops, a random crop each day is produced. Standard crops and amounts only.

Companion planting - one main crop and a single “wild” crop. Standard amounts of main crop yield + 50% chance of 1 of the “wild” crop.

1x1 plots are possible if my artistic skills somehow magically improve.

I’ve had some thoughts re an interior cell connected to an advanced industrial plot. At this point I’m not sure re the adv ind plot - I was thinking 4x4 however have shelved that idea.

I've thought about that but didn't know if I can make it cool looking. That's usually how martial ideas had gone for me too. But perhaps it is best for us to try anyways so there can be more variety.

@uituit an oversized plot idea for you. Junktown Fences - electrified ones, raider corpses and electric sparks optional.
I like that a lot, Plots containing hazards will be an excellent idea for Conqueror.

I think for plots that are possibly considered OP, having them also make it harder for the player when raiding could be a great idea. Imagine if say IDEK Logistics being in the settlement you're raiding makes it more difficult somehow?

hehe another idea for my list ;)
:heart
I'm sure it will be amazing! Probably gonna be another favorite for me

So since you asked for ideas. I have a couple of things I’d love to see.

First, more plots that upgrade to connect with each other. There is the one add-on that has the two tree house plots that grow up and together. That’s such a cool idea.

On the side of things that don’t exist, I’ve long had the idea of a “frame” for external plots that might function similar to the idea of an “apartment house” building with spots for internal plots.

The idea is hard to explain maybe, but what I imagine is something like a special foundation that you could put probably three plots in next to each other but with maybe a .5 space between them and on the outside edge. But the foundation itself would also be a plot.

So, instead of just putting three residentials right next to each other, you put this foundation down first which itself upgrades with an alley with decorations and chairs between the houses. Maybe there’s a sleeping bag with a awning over it. Whatever.

Same thing for commercials. Make it into a little shopping district.

@VersusXV has the latter type of plot. :)

What happened to the idea for a filter straw that gets rid of radiation? QoL enhancement right there.

I'm really liking the posts!

This. It is the exact concept for 4 Story, shown here:

I am not much into decorating so specifically prefer a setup where I can place Int Plots to fill them with arrangements from the other addons.

For @Marc Eastman: Xbox One Version

Now that I know an Xbox user on here, I can think about future versions of my addon for XB1. I did the initial version but not updates since I have no ability to test on the Xbox as I no longer own one anymore.

I want to do something like this but not quite sure what form it would take. It's been a while but I think I might have suggested a new "Infrastructure" plot type.

Having plots in a "hybrid" role is somewhat possible by giving a plot Snap Points for Int Plots or maybe other external plots. It's something I am currently looking into and believe will be something possible for me. First shown by WV2 Gaslight Concoctions(Probably my favorite Commercial plot right now), that got me interested to try to learn about adding snap points.

I have first added them to the versions of the Custom Foundations that I made, I tried to set up 1x1 & 3x3 versions for most of them that would make sense. They are working fairly well so far. I've been a bit busy but next up I want to view Gaslight Concoctions in Nifskope to study how they set up the snap points to see if I can then add it to 4 Story so you can have easy placement of Int Plots. If that goes well I would like to use the setup on new ideas too.

And then I have an experimental idea from there to try repurposing the proposed "Plot Skins" feature from the upcoming Conquerors Expansion for a kind of "Plot Preferences" setup. I could make there be a few versions like this:
  • Empty, with Interior Plots snap points
  • Furnished with decorations by me, will not be fancy but will be kept as lightweight as possible & not completely empty. Everything will be a single static if possible, chairs for instance I use a static to put in the SCOL then put a Blue Man rather than spawning a chair furniture reference.
  • Ultra-Lite: Since I used to play on Xbox before I built PC, I have seen firsthand the pretty intense hardware limitations. Partly for this reason, I do "hollow" versions of the stage model using 1-way objects. It's basically like the un-enterable buildings in Downtown Boston, they are not rendered on the inside. If I make this be a choice on every level it can become an extra performance lever of sorts for Xbox & low end systems. FPS is dropping? Change skin to Ultra-Lite.

It's based on hypotheses currently, but I am hopeful about it. This might be a good spot to ask opinion about what if I have many options in the plot skins menu? since it would be empty 1, empty2, etc. For however many color variants there are there would be 3 options. My 4 story, Basic Apartment & Poor House have 10 material swap variants so this would be 30 options in the menu.

Addon making becomes a Game unto itself, one that I might add is far better than typical AAA games.

Really cool ideas IMO. I actually have a kind of chaotic WIP that can be similar to this.

What I was thinking for it was probably to go with a route of placing multiple of the plot together or possibly some arrangement like RS addon. I think I would likely prefer the way you describe it both as a player and from author PoV. I'd thought it might be confusing for players but seeing it suggested tells me it may be just fine.

I like the shopping district, will see what I can do for it. I'd always had a "Street plot" in mind too.

Because you asked, and linked it in Discord. I have a few idea's that aren't really on my menu since I'm focusing on institute themed Stuff but.

Martial Plot Ideas

A martial Plot that has some trenches, I'm thinking you make kind of a hill shape like short of triangular with one or two rows of trenches with some razorwire maybe some tank traps that kind of thing. A gun emplacement couldn't hurt.

I could be wrong but I haven't seen a bunker and there are a lot of good bunker pieces around.

An old beached military ship or a crashed vertibird with the side gun still working.

A maze full of traps (Sort of like the funhouse in Nuka World)

A pit of sticky goo that gets things stuck (I have no idea how this work work, somehow cripple legs of people walking though it?)

A Pit with a trapdoor that lands the attacker into a pit with a dangerous wasteland creature.

I don't remember what it's called a parapat maybe where it's two foxholes kind of close to each other surrounded by a circle of raised dirt and in the middle is like a mortar.

I don't make plots, but would adore some new options.
For a 3x3 ag plot, combining animals and crops would be nice: chickens and corn or Brahmin and mutfruit, like that.

I would also love to see some other factional options; BoS, secret Institute (pre-end quest); open Institute(post-end quest); Railroad.

More pass-through 2x2 martial plots for entrances.
Combo res with any other; res above shop, res with martial, res with ag.

It would be cool to have crafting shops; knitting, woodworking, blacksmith, bakery, etc to give a sort of medieval vibe.

I'd love to see zorkaz make some plots based on the work he's been doing in several of those areas.

What do people see as "Railroad Themed" I don't see any real difference between the institute Atheistic and the Minuteman Atheistic. Maybe more disguises or hidden doors or something?

I can see Railroad themed as perhaps having secret compartments, or clutter showing railroad sign or the like, maybe even an underground room for hiding synths. Pre-endgame Institute could have hidden tech in a regular wasteland building. Post end-game Institute would be clean and polished. I kind of picture Minuteman as movie-lot western; a bit rustic, but still cozy and safe.

Welcome aboard Kristin. The one strange thing about both the Institute and the Railroad is that they are supposedly clandestine operations..... at least early in the game. What I would like to see are sympathetic settlements... meaning that they take sides by themselves for one faction... or none at all. The whole concept of being hidden relies on people keeping their mouth shut, and having places in settlements where the activity takes place.

Keeping that in mind, it's not so far fetched that at some point, you might have Synth raids on suspected Railroad freindly settlements. And vice -versa for the Railroad. The BOS has their own agenda as do the Minutemen.

Sounds a lot like it could be the start of another Revolutionary war.

A checkpoint that is exactly that. Optional walls too.

Another one, that will also have a 1x1 option. Maybe 3x3 but I'm not sure how it'll look exactly.

I just added snap point for Int plot in my 4 story house. Will probably add it on Defense Structure too.

Rather than repost the same post again, I'll just link you to another post I made on another thread concerning this exact topic concerning ideas for Institute plots.
Some fantastic ideas for sure. I only haven't done them since I am not sure if I can do them too well. I am definitely happy to see an Institute addon.

It'd largely be more plot skins, having stuff like railroad cache/hideout with their railsigns.

I really want to do this, have wanted it for a long while. Only depends upon if I can create a script at some point to dynamically detect if Nuka World is installed. I want house of mirrors plot, Gauntlet style trap room, probably others.

Maybe this should be on a second addon, rather than force users of my existing one to suddenly require DLC and say too bad if you don't own Nuka World?

This has caught my interest, could you possibly tell me more? Railroad could be a really intriguing possibility for Sim Settlements with the upcoming Conquerors faction system.

I've been thinking about investigating the possibility of custom Conquerors factions in the future. Depending of course on whether or not Scripting skills are needed for that. Sim Settlements modding means a lot of users and the work also reflecting upon the main mod. It's possible in such a case I might do limited release for such a project like only on SimSettlements.com for a while, if this turns out to be something that is realistically doable for me. Since of course, Kinggath tier scripting skills are a big time rarity.

If/when I delve into scripting, that will definitely be limited release to begin with. To ensure that no big problems happen. It's important to do it that way IMO as it could cause reports & confusion on the main mod, if the new mod's scripts did cause issues.

I'd like to see some 2x2 martial plots that serve as faction garrisons for Conquerors, spawning mortal/killable actors when the settlement is under attack. It would work like the allied leader traits (like the one that spawns synths or a BoS vertibird when your settlement is under attack) in Rise of the Commonwealth. JTBryant did something like this a while back but his addon is outdated and the defense calculation scripts do not work anymore.

Also some plots that have the underused settlement traps (defense -> traps) could be an interesting challenge for the player with the Conquerors expansion, you assault a settlement and have to deal with all these traps, defenses, guards, etc.

Some ideas include things like having a lit or unlit lantern in a window. There could be rail signs on the outside of the building, perhaps showing safehouse or tourist or cache. Could have a barrel with goodies in it near the cache symbol. These would work for any type of plot.

Also, having a small room hidden behind a secret door-maybe one that looks like a bookcase or wall section that has various things in it, like a sleeping bag on the floor or a chair or a table with a ham radio, or a table with a MILA, maybe a railgun, a chalkboard showing the rail signs.

There could be a hatchway in the floor that leads to an underground room-similar to the root cellar or the underground room beneath the doctor in Diamond City. This could have multiple sleeping bags and buckets, maybe a chair. There might be an escaped synth.
