Q. Do I need to update SS2?
A. Yes, be sure to update SS2 and Workshop Framework in addition to installing the Chapter2 mod.

Q. Can I continue from an existing save?
A. Yes! Any save that has already seen SS2 or even completed the story of Chapter 1 should work with Chapter 2.

Q. How will Chapter 2 start?
A. If you are playing from a save that already finished Chapter 1, you should receive a quest objective telling you to return to the Hardware Store within a couple minutes of booting up your save with Chapter 2 installed. (If this doesn't happen, it may be that your update to SS2 didn't take, and you may need to manually overwrite the files by downloading and extracting them to Fallout 4\Data - then roll back to the last save before you installed Chapter 2)

If you are on a new save, or have not completed Chapter 1, Chapter 2's story will kick in seamlessly at the end of the Chapter 1 content - there will no longer be a pop-up telling you Chapter 1 is complete, and instead the story will continue uninterrupted.

Q. My save files take way longer since I updated to SS2 2.0.0, what's the deal??
A. We are actively researching what might be causing this and will patch it immediately once we have confirmed the issue and created a solution.

Feel free to respond to this post if you have more questions about Chapter 2 and I'll try and keep this updated over the coming days!

Good afternoon. I hope you recovered and all is well) I myself spent 2 weeks with it.
Question. Will there be a post that is added to the base game SS2 and what is new in part 2.

Hello, I have just finished the quest "Dark Horizons" and no new quest has started. What should I do?

Autosaving is taking either 1 to 2 min or instead freezing all together on xbox. This is my mods list. Thanks

It's unplayable at the moment. This was from a save level 15.
Not really unplayable per se but yeah the saving takes 1-5 minutes for me and my modlist is pretty heavy. Oh and i'm level 100 and finished the main plot and for me it's pretty gnarly since all of my settlements started getting sick all at the same time and i havent unlocked all yet so yeah everybody dying :D didn't expect that lol but yeah. You can use an old save but yeah if you don't want to get overwhelmed micro managing 8 settlements all getting sick then you'd want a new game. I suggest turning Autosave off for the meantime till everything gets fixed. With my big settlement the scripts didn't lag that much but yeah i guess this will get a few performance tweaks soon coz yeah the save time is pretty gnarly. So it's playable if you take the whole autosaving off the equation and since i'm playing Survival mode i don't even get to save that often so i barely felt it.

True, totally and for sure! They do good work so in the end it will all work out!

I did find a workaround for you. Just autosave using doors :D. Manually saving inside a settlement cause the lag or waking up inside one then autosave lags too i think coz when i save outside it was all ok. But if that's not the case just save via going in somewhere to load a new level and the autosave is pretty fast if the 1-5 minute save really bothers you ^.^. Believe me i get how frustrating it could be specially when you get used to instantaneous saving then you get tossed with a 1-5 minute saving thing, even loading times taking too long bugs me but yeah price we pay for having instant everything we just lose it when things are taking too long than they should.

Often in our quests there is an intentional gap where you have time to work on your settlements or play the rest of FO4. The next quest should start in a couple days in-game.

Chapter 2 picks up the main quest after the quest Picking up the Pieces, and adds three other good-sized quest lines for Concord, the CPD, and the Nightingales.

Unfortunately we have no control over how saving is handled - I'm not aware of anything we added that should have a major impact on it. The biggest new system we added doesn't even come into play until you finish the majority of the Chapter 2 story content.

Fellow xbox user! Same here—actually, all ways of saving are causing freezes for me. I've spent an inordinate amount of time (embarrassing, probably lol) tweaking my load order to see if it was due to some other recent changes I had made but I've come to the conclusion its probably just the update unfortunately. It only started causing me issue after I logged in today and updated. It isn't just the saving for me, though. Its been randomly freezing and crashing at the most random moves, and upon fast travel. Anyway, just wanted to log my issues in case they're helpful!

Hi Kinggath and team, so excited to try this out! My question is, is this the final file size including the reduction in texture quality and removing of the outfit collection system? Or are those still things that will be done to reduce file size? I see on the nexus version the file size is around 600, while on Xbox our file size is around 800. Why is this, and can we expect some further reductions to file size? Thank you so much for making these mods and for taking the time to reply to all of us! Hope you're feeling better and planning to take some time to enjoy the end of the year!

IIRC, it is not possible to use compression in the ba2 files on xBox. Or more simply, the ba2 files for xBox are uncompressed while the pc version is compressed. You would be better off asking Microsoft why. ;)

Something in the update is causing the painfully slow saving. It's easy to replicate for many people.

Xbox/slow save people - I have an Xbox One, just for informational purposes, and I’ve been playing around with long saves for a long time. The Chapter 2 update definitely makes saving massively long in some situations.
Im no expert in how anything works, but just some advice from having tried to deal with this problem for all of SS2, when it was not even as bad as this.
Since I’ve had the problem with a certain quest not advancing, I’ve played around with saving and things I have found help a lot.
  • Turn off all autosaves
  • Don’t try to save right after building plots, especially multiple plots
-Do not save in settlements unless you’ve been there a really long time
  • Do not save right after fast traveling.
  • Do not save right after finding new characters or unlocking new plots - this isn’t a time thing but it has caused crashes for me
  • Whenever possible save inside some tiny cell - 90% of the time I save I fast travel to Home Plate, wait like a minute then save
  • In problematic cases where you want to save, pause the game by bringing up the save/settings menu and let it sit like that for 30 seconds then get out of menu and give it a few seconds before saving. If you have a lot of settlements going, doing this will get a lot of notifications to fire.
  • Do not have a lot of saves.
  • Don’t try to save outside with all kinds of crap going around you.

that’s about it I think.

Something else I've found (pre-Chapter 2):

Did you save and exit? Ready to play again now? Do you get a crash as soon as your latest save file loads? Bring up a slightly older save file and load that. If it loads successfully, wait a moment and then load the desired save file.

No idea why, but it's helped me load saves that I couldn't load directly from the main menu. Having a recent save in a small cell like Home Plate helps, like described above.
