Ch.3 Workshop Framework Invalid Entries error

Hey all,

After updating everything and ensuring workshop framework comes from Nexus, I am getting the same error as at least two other folks here on the forums and basically can't start Ch. 3 yet. Fortunately my RL is very busy so I'm in no hurry despite the curiosity and excitement!

""Workshop Framework has encountered an error! Your Workshop array seems to have invalid entries, probably due to removed settlement mods. It is not recommended to continue playing this save." . Running ROTC as well. I should mention that I took a break since last dec and didnt fire up the game or patch during the period when KG mentioned some similar issue he had to push out a hotfix for and ROTC/settlement mod optimization. Maybe we had to patch and convert all the way through and some process was missed here.

This save is overweight with mostly DLC content mods like Thuggyverse, Subversion. Going to see if I can optimize the load order some after I hit post.

I am not.

Interesting report. Are you using The Bleachers/Fens Sheriff Department by chance?

Bleachers yes, Fens Sheriff Dept no but if you hadn't mentioned it i'd have been oblivious to its release, now thats the next most interesting one Im dying to try out. There's always a silver lining to everything :D

Confirmed installing a Thuggysmurf optimization variant that doesnt install the Sinstitute teleporter doesnt fix the problem aaaaannd I'm pretty much done with this for now

I was able to fix my issue thankfully. Get SKK Workshop Ownership Utilities and run the diagnostic report that is in the holotape. It will run a report that will return your bad workshop IDs. For me, it was Sanctuary Hills Hot Springs player home and it's not a mod I removed. You can run the repair function after the report runs to fix the bad ID. After I did the fix, the WSFW error went away.

For people following along, from the SKK Workshop Utils documentation - it appears to insert dummy workshops to fix the issue. You won't be able to remove that mod if you have used it.
SKK REPAIR

Version 008 onwards of the mod includes a repair option which will try to clean and align the lists. As workshop IDs can not be changed (many many reasons) any holes that can not be repaired because (for example) the original mod injected workshop or location has been removed, are filled with a placeholder workshop and location generated by the repair script. FTLOG DO NOT REMOVE THIS MOD IF YOU HAVE USED THE FUNCTION.

it sounds like your recommendation is to avoid it for now as its a non fix and wait for a real resolution then? in case what's missing actually breaks something?

ok so at least this confirms it IS an SS Settlement issue, something went wrong there and needs to be hotfixed

Not really. It confirms that at some point that mod had been installed in that save file and is no longer present or is present and the workshop was setup incorrectly.
That does not confirm an error with WSFW.
The issue is that no one has been able to replicate this issue without removing a mod.

No, this doesn't confirm it is an SS issue. What it indicates is that Sanctuary Hills Hot Springs player home may have a broken workshop.

O
You can at least use it to run the report to see what workshop is causing it.

ok I think I ran the find parentsource diagnostic and it said I had one blank at position 37. list is likely corrupt. Didnt see a repair option. How did you find out what your missing things wore correlated to? passing out here. Will have to pick things up again at another time. Where is the location of the Workshop List?

EDIT - edited to change the blank position, went back in sleep deprived to re-read the WorkshopParent check diagostic. Also where is the repair option? I dont get one

I might be thinking of a different place since its been so long since I touched the game but Im thinking of that one place with a pool? or is that our starting town. but I was thinking, that place isnt normally a settlement until after installing SS?

ok now that Ive gotten some sleep, I can ask the question a bit better. BECAUSE of the dummy workshop insertion, do you not recommend taking this route to "fix" the problem just for the sake of making the error msg go away because this means some workshop / settlement somewhere will now be permanently broken after the "repair"?

I dont see where you were getting the repair option. I ran the ParentSource scan in the diagnostic menu and while it found a blank entry and suggested my WorkshopList is probably corrupt, I never got a repair option and I still dont know how you managed to resolve the workshop ID's given with the right broken workshop. Did you use FO4 Edit? or look into the WorkshopList file directly?

Just confirmed two CTD's in a row when trying to go back to Sanctuary , that's not conclusive since at this pt my game is pretty unstable in the most developed settlements i.e. Vault 88 and Sanctuary and they crash often. However if there is a point of consistency being that one that is broken whether through a "hot springs mod" or broken via Ch. 3, that may help in further nailing down the cause

Also if you're going to continue playing via this "fix" , please let us know eventually whether you were able to play thru Ch. 3 / everything else successfully. Especially with the battle at sanctuary in the trailer, this might break that. I also just jumped around to Jamaica Plains (next most developed settlement I have probably) and Warwick Homestead specifically as that one would be a relatively light load and they were expected to be fine. However Sanctuary still CTD's possibly confirming that location as the problem workshop

The place with the pool is the Slog, and it is a vanilla settlement.

I ran SSK and this is what mine came up with!

ok this is interesting that we would have exactly the same missing entry even though we have a different number of workshops, if it IS sanctuary consistently then that points to the Ch. 3 update screwing up something there but it seems like MANY other things are more directly broken and it would probably be a challenge to fix everything else with enough time left to play without half the gameplay being console command workarounds before Starfield comes out

also you never got a repair option either?

Sanctuary has always been a settlement in the game It has never had a pool in vanilla. That's probably the hot springs mod. Putting that right on Sanctuary is likely to cause issues with how the game decides which settlement owns which cell.

I don't know how the game will respond to a dummy settlement in the list, and I don't know how SKK deals with the corrupted data that has already come into the settlement system. I feel that option is intended for people to quickly finish their current playthrough.

The error Workshop Framework is reporting is a MISSING Workshop entry. SKK will also tell you about all the vanilla settlement bugs. Yes, even those are not all correctly set up. Sanctuary is one of those - but it's not the same sort of issue that WSFW is telling you about.

After some more investigation, we understand that doing any of these will break the workshops and make WSFW give you that message.
  • Removing a settlement mod.
  • Removing a player home.
  • Removing a quest mod that has a settlement or player home.
  • Changing a settlement mod from ESP to ESL version.

Chapter 3 didn't screw something up, WSFW was telling you it was already screwed up. Also this hot springs mod looks like it either adds another workshop right next to sanctuary (big yikes for performance there because that just amplifies the triangle of death) or it is tacking on something to the sanctuary workshop which is likely to have caused it to become corrupt over time.

Some further digging has been done on the Sanctuary Hot Springs mod and it appears to overwrite Sanctuary, Red rocket, Concord, Robotics Disposal, basically a huge chunk of the area and has two separate workshop quests. I think it is clearly the culprit in what is causing these workshops to become corrupted.
