when i go into the menu of each of these items, the vanilla models are missing. for example, in the generator section there is only a rank 4 science super generator, and none of the basic generators needed for getting power.

what am i doing wrong?

Have you recently uninstalled a mod that adds items in those categories?

no, unfortunately

Edit: I just did a check, and sim settlements is not the issue. I first disabled sim settlements, and the issue persisted. I disabled all mods and the issue was fixed.
Possible mods that could cause this that I have:

Junkmaster, unique uniques, awkcr, uco base game, crossbows of the commonwealth. Any suggestions

I'd start a new game with just SS then start adding your mods back and see which mucks the build menu.

I managed to find the problem. i had a small mod called 'uso' that was causing bugs. once i disabled it everything fixed, luckily. thanks for the help guys!

Thank you for telling. Unlocked Settlement Objects is not currently included in to incompatible mods in the Wiki. It might be a worth to take another look.

Edit: This was the mod from Bethesda.net, right?

USO may be small in megabytes, but it makes big changes to the workshop menu. It adds hundreds of items to the workshop, and it completely restructures the menu.

With USO installed, the 'Raider' category should be replaced by 'USO Integrated'. All the vanilla items and all the new items added by USO can be found in there, nested inside a whole new menu.

This is a very strange set-up, but there are very good reasons for it. The author, ANDREWCX, explains all this in the mod description and linked USO FAQ. I suggest reading the FAQ carefully to understand what USO is actually doing and why.

No other mod offers anything close to the same number of new workshop items for such a small file size, though it's strongly recommended that you pair it with 'Place Anywhere', because many of the new items lack proper snapping. This is a limitation imposed by Sony on PS4 mods, because adding snap points is considered external content.

If a mod interferes with Sim Settlements, it is unworthy of even occupying the same HD space.
Just sayn.. ;)

Thank you Catallaxis. That cleared up some things.

Yep, it was the bethesda version. it seems the 'raider' option was never replaced by the 'uso integrated' option. that would explain the missing items. nothing else was awry, so it may have just been a bug and not a consistent incompatibility issue. Unfortunately changing load order didn't fix anything so i had to disable the mod.
