What are your essential mods?

Ellen is working fine mostly but her quest bugged out in the current playthrough.
I currently have both Heather and Ellen as companions.
You remind me, I need to double-check Everyone's Best Friend and see if I can run with Dogmeat as well as a companion.

I think that we missed this one - adding.

BS Defense

Hooray, MG Turrets actually have a use!

Admittedly, at this point I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with stuff. To the point that I've not actually played Fallout for the last 3-4 days (no mowing down the enemy, I mean).

Kinda scary, looked at that way. I need to get back into it. O_O

Yeah sometimes we get so excited downloading new mods that we forgot to test them! When we finally open the game (one hundred esp's later...), the results aren't always good.

A'int that the truth?! Recently went over my active plugin limit because I wasn't paying attention (Vortex doesn't have a nice active plugin count like NMM) and it generated...interesting results. Never did that before.

There are lots of great mods on this list, some I use some I don't. Found some new ones I want to try...after verifying my plugin count of course ;)

Not too many that are absolute essentials, but SS (of course) and We are the Minutemen are two that are on every playthrough. So is Heather Casdin. Ellen was fun but hasn't been in my load order for awhile. If you want to change up your in-game music a bit, Bleak Beauty is a very nice OST. Doesn't have to replace existing atmospheric music but I find I like the music in this one very much. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/9663 . Tried it on a whim and was pleasantly surprised.

Didn't know about Get Dirty (take a bath). I use CWSS so this will tie in nicely!

This one has become essential:

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/33947

I can't remember the last time my game has run this smooth with all these mods I have.

Other things I find essential:
Take your Cores: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/14773 (This one can get a bit annoying in a different way, like if you constantly jump in and out of power armor to do crafting or something, but the number of times that I have forgotten to take out my fusion core when a sudden attack happens near the settlement leads me to believe the alternative is worse.)

Power Armor Animation Changes: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4408 (Relevant to the previous mod, this one becomes essential if you ARE one of those types who is constantly hopping in and out of your power armor, like me.)

Pack Attack: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/30140 (Though I have complained about this one corrupting save files because the mod author updates it frequently, Pack Attack has just become essential to me if nothing more than as a way of the game keeping me on my toes. It is, however, A SCRIPT NIGHTMARE so lighter machines may have problems with this one)

Floating Damage: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/28684 (Probably not THAT essential, unless you're like me, playing survival mode, running around with Dogmeat and another companion and one of them buggers off somewhere, gets attacked, and you can't find them. But, oh, what are those little floating bouncing numbers off thataway?)

Durable Vertibirds: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/2857 (Not that essential on its own, unless you're someone who somehow always manages to end up way too close to a crashing, exploding vertibird, but with Pack Attack it becomes absolutely necessary or the Brotherhood of Steel is going to be losing vertibirds left and right.)

Darker Nights: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/191 (Absolutely necessary for immersion. Also makes various other mods more essential, such as anything that modifies the Pip Boy Light, or any mod that adds vision goggles to the game. Works absolutely beautifully with True Storms.)

Added Heather to my game and I think I'm in love (don't tell my wife :) ). She'll be a part of all my play-throughs now...

Heather is probably the most well made companion - IMHO. Just make sure you listen to her radio station when available... the one bug I have found is if you don't, the station disappears. If you know where she is located, no biggie...

Phoebe the Institute Merc is a good companion as well... not spoken words... but has a hidden bunker and works well with heather... I am not sure of the companion mod (unlimited?) but I also have the vault girls Laura and Jasmine work well with the 2 of them. I also use Abduction so I get "named" Raider/Gunner/etc. NPC's to be companions as well.

Vermillion General is one I need to try out, but have to get to Glowing Sea... and haven't been there in ages....

Haha.... mid game I can have 10 companions... it's like me and a platoon...

Heck, 10 companions! I’m having enough troubles with Dogmeat and Cait, it makes everything incredibly crowded in lifts...half the time I’m leaving one or the other somewhere just because they cannot get in.

Well, at 10 I stop... but then assignable to special bars etc...

For some reason there's no sound on her radio station when I tune it in. So I just have to go find her.

Ooooo, I gotta try that one. Good find!

So i tried Insane Ivy & frankly some of the "mature" conversation made me embarrassed to be male & I'm a dirty-minded pervert like the rest. I was like "what are we, 12 years old?" I was figuring that if i turned off all the "adult" settings, she would be totally mute & no fun.

Fortunately i gave it another shot. With everything toned down I like her just as much as heather. Only part that was a pain was the fact i had to turn off XDI to get into her service menu settings to disable everything then turn XDI back on.

So Heather & Ivy are 2 must-have for me.

EDIT: and for the record, i tried running without XDI & found i absolutely hated the stock Bethesda 4 choice half-assed conversation system after seeing something better. XDI is also must have! :blum

So I tried this, and suddenly Diamond City quests started acting weird -- the first part would be complete by the time I got to them (i.e., the door was already open and Piper inside, and I got the message i talked to the Borobov brothers and Confidence Man started when I walked into the Dugout the second time). I've seen no reports that having Heather with me when I got there affected these quests (pretty sure it would have been reported as a bug by now), and that's the only other new mod I've added lately, other than updates to mods I've used a long time. I suspect the fast loading in those situations is screwing up script timing or something, so I'm going to disable this mod for now and see what happens with it out.

I installed this mod yesterday too and didn't notice any bugs. Tonight I'm going to play around DC and try to do some quests there (if I still have any left) to see if I can reproduce the issue.

Thanks -- so far it's only been the DC quests that were wonky; others were fine.

I haven't seen the Insane Ivy companion mod... I do see the preset mod on NMM...
