This quest being given after Jared is dead seems off.

Especially when Willie's dialogue mentions "if Jared finds out what we are up to."

Seems like a better story flow would be to have it occur the same time you go after Jared.

Jared comes before Red in the quest chain :P I have done it about a dozen times so far, lol.
