Question Warriors and W/R/E production

As per the patch notes:

  • Wages are generated by Commercial plots, Equipment by Industrial plots, and Rations by Agricultural plots. The amount provided is determined by whether they are in an Outpost or Vassal (Vassals gain a natural bonus to production) and the Morale level of that particular settlement.
I take this to mean that Recreational plots produce no W/R/E???

  • Warrior
  • -These are the only role that can go on assaults.
  • -They will help defend during raids.
  • -They improve the control score of the Outpost they are stationed in and produce Wages/Equipment/Rations when working the corresponding plot types.
  • -They require Equipment, Rations, and Wages.
"produce Wages/Equipment/Rations when working the corresponding plot types" doesn't mean that they produce W/R/E when working Rec plots (the plots that correspond to the Warrior Role in an Outpost/the plots that auto-role change recruits to "warriors")??

"Corresponding plot types" refers to Commercial/Industrial/Agriculture Plots referenced in the top passage.

So when a Warrior is (manually) assigned to any plot that can produce W/R/E, then (and only then) will Warriors produce W/R/E.

And this is meant to be in contrast to:
  • Guard
  • -Choosing this option will ask you to choose which settlement to station them at.
  • -They will help defend during raids.
  • -They greatly improve the control score of the settlement they are stationed at but produce no Wages/Equipment/Rations when working the corresponding plot types.
  • -They require Equipment, Rations, and Wages.
Who never produce any W/R/E, even when assigned to commercial/industrial/agriculture plots.

I've actually had some issues with this since the 4.1.0 release. I have auto-assign roles on. So, if I assign a warrior to an R/W/E plot they will convert to a worker. If I wait till they are assigned to a plot and then change them to a warrior they stay assigned to the plot, stay a warrior, but their R/W/E contribution is immediately removed from the R/W/E bars and doesn't recover, even if I leave the settlement, let it unload, and return later. That's caused me to need a ridiculous amount of workers if I use the R/W/E system. which tanks happiness.

I know one of the motivations behind Conqueror was to feel more like you were running an empire than a bunch of individual settlements and avoid micromanaging, but I've found it takes more micromanaging to keep Conqueror settlements in balance, both outposts and vassals than it does to simply run regular settlements.

I play with soldier needs off but I still have the urge to fill all the R/W/E bars so I still end up micromanaging a lot. Especially with auto-assign not working properly for me in 4.1.1 and 4.1.1a. I decided to take a break until the next patch.

Yeah, I've decided to do the same. I actually didn't try Conqueror until the 4.1 release. I'd watched Kinggath's Let's Play since the beginning, but when I saw the new mechanics it sorta pulled me out of a year-long FO4 retirement. I've tried 3 playthroughs with 4.1.

The first I tried Conqueror from early-game onward. I found I needed to play with soldiers needs off because trying to keep the first version balanced with low-level plots was extremely time-consuming and I couldn't enjoy just playing the story.

The second playthrough I didn't take my first settlement with Jammer until I'd leveled up a few settlements near where I wanted my HQ to be. That went a bit easier, but I still had issues keeping wages up. Industrial seems to fill rather easy, but it seems to take many commercial plots to get enough wages. I finally dumped the playthrough due to a number of quest issues.

I'm on my third now, but I actually reloaded a save to before I took my first settlement with Jammer and continued without him because of assignment issues. I also have ghost raiders that show up in my HUD but never appear in the settlement to be put to work, as well as other raiders that show up as "Raider Recruits" that have no "R" menu to change their roles. The last one is a bit odd as I use no mods that use the "R" hotkey for any interactions, like Quick Trade or What's Your Name. There aren't many of those, maybe 4 or 5, but it does get confusing.

I know that, eventually, all this will be ironed out. Kinggath just has a ton on his plate being the only coder and taking care of The Duke. It will all be fixed in time. I can't wait to see where it all goes.

I've turned auto role change off and I am, in fact, micro-managing my shnizz.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: In real life I'm a slob who can barely get my kids to school on time. When I game, I game like a homicidal accountant hopped up on psycho jet, armed with a spread sheet and a knife.

I get that that ain't everyone's speed.

If your game is changing your warriors to workers and if you have them assigned to commercial, ag, or industrial plots in your Outpost---if you are getting a substantial amount of your W/R/E production from those plots in your Outpost, the problem I think is workers get a bonus to production when working those plots: So switching them back to warriors will in fact decrease your W/R/E production in that outpost.

I've tried to keep almost all my W/R/E production in my vassals. Plots in vassals produce more W/R/E than the same plots in Outposts. Let the vassals vassal.
