Understanding Power?

I have just started a new game with SS2 for the sixth time. I just finished talking with Jake and the old man. I am in Sanctuary and I have power all over the place. So, why do I see a negative number for power when I check reports on a plot? Is it connected or isn't it? I am all about keeping things simple and I sure as heck hate puzzles. I am almost tempted to do all of the cheats and avoid all of Jake's quests.

The quest is fun, which plots do not have power have you run any power connectors to them?

Of course, I have run power to everything that requires power. Granted the power comes from 5 fusion generators, several power pylons w/ switches in and around Sanctuary, and light poles along the culdesac. As I said this is just after speaking with Jake and Paul for the first time after laying down the industrial plot. For example in Sanctuary, the pylons that I speak of come from the vanilla workbench. There are currently no pylons under SS2, just various telephone and light poles.

Do you mean when you check the ASAM, it says a negative? That means that plot is USING that much power. If it was a positive number, that'd mean it was MAKING that much power. Same for food, water, and defense - this is part of how ss2 tries to "balance" things, by giving plots effectively more costs. (its done in the way it is because of technicalities of how fo4 itself works - it HATES negative numbers and breaks things)
The HUD Meter gauge things on the left of the screen should show you the total for generation/usage those of the settlement you are in, you dont have to go manually work it out.

Caravan Plots will allow settlements to 'share' excess food/water production between them if the trade link is active.

Thanks for clarifying. I understand the HUD more or less. Thank you.
