Traveling Visitors v1

Nah, I've been experimenting here for the past few hours, I cannot find a way to get them to actually use the dialog I want, they all only do the "Huh?" "Yeah?" etc. no matter what I try. Might just be how it is.
Maybe try using dialogue from random encounters since they occur in multiple locations throughout the commonwealth instead of just in diamond city??????

Might be something in the hard coding of how visitors function. Limited dialog options. I always did wish they said more myself but as far as the game goes they are there like an added decoration for immersive purposes. Not much more. I always wanted it to be the visitors that are having those settlement gun fights over chems. And be able to witness it.

It's not that. The ones I made using the "settler" dialog set (lines such as "My back hurt, my feet hurts, everything hurts") work perfectly. The Diamond City/Goodneighbour "semi-radiant" dialog works in an odd way that I can't trick into doing what I want.

Gotcha. Still would love to see them shooting it out in the back ally. Lol.

Can you make a custom dialog group ? Name it like sanctuary traveler or something and add the lines you want to that. It’s been a while since I touched Beth ai and that was in Skyrim years ago.

Yeah it looks like that's what I'll have to do. It's annoying but I can make this work how I want eventually.

Update: I have been bashing my head against this all week. I still can't get it to do what I want, even though I can SEE what I want it to do in the CKit, it just won't do it. I'm tempted to abandon that idea and let them just have YEAH? HUH? as all their dialog.

Are they in a custom faction idk how kingath setup his npc visitors. Maybe look into mods like npc travel and see how they setup the npc ? Sorry can’t help much but I’d hate to see you give up on something that sounds pretty cool.

I'll sleep on it and try again tomorrow, I'm just way too frustrated right now and the CKit's not especially fun to work with.

Yeah I’m with you on the ck when I did some precombines and previs for my load order a while back it sucked crashed a lot and took forever.

I think I've figured out how to get the end result I want, it's just going to take a fair bit more work than I initially hoped. I'm going to have to push back the planned update time another week at least.

Alright! Lipsync didn't work right, but I have the process into the "understood" range now. Now for just a whole lot of tedious file management.

Shoutout to the tutorials kinggath did on Youtube some time ago, and to VersusXV for reminding me those existed.

nice work glad you made some head way on this.
Good thing is that this method doesn't restrict me to ONLY the lines the Diamond City Residents (in this specific case) can use... and they can have triggers such as how that line is coded to only play if you're actually wearing a Vault Suit. And since Bethesda refuse to hire more than 10 voice actors on any given project... there's a lot of potential here...

I have been told that if you don't have at least 32GB Ram when generating an exterior cell, there is a high chance of failure.

There are also some by Seddon. He does a pretty detailed rundown of the various things that can be done with Quests. Be warned! He speaks fast and you will be rewinding a lot.

Reusing voice files is a PITA. :todd: You can't just point and click. The CK will give you a filename and path and you have to put the correct file with the correct name in the correct location. You may want to look into setting up shared dialog if you have dialog you want to reuse. Generating .lip files is not so straight forward either. IIRC, KG has a tut on it. I also found some good info on the Nexus forum. If you are doing custom dialog, you will want this:

Good luck! :agree:

Edit- When adding voice files to a ba2, do not use the CK. Use the archive program that came with the CK (under tools) and make sure you turn off the compression!!!!! Otherwise the files will not play in game and you will lose a lot of hair trying to figure it out.

With the removal from Nexus, were you planning on moving this to a new service, or making the files available in some other way?

In the short term, no. I'm doing a complete rebuild of things (I actually lost the 'raw files' due to hardware failure in my PC) and it will be some time before I'm happy with it due to being too busy with other things. Only once I'm done will I think about where to upload it.
