I am about to try out Conqueror again. Leaving out the new faction packs, it seems to me there at least are three ways to crack this nut:
First, is the Good Guy: just want prebuilt settlements. Save Quincey Five as usual. Run Preston's Minutemen quests as usual except this time when I get to Tenpines for the first time I won't just be helping two dirt farmers who live in a shack, but those same two dirt farmers and 13 of their friends who now live in a fancy village. I still only have to kill some raiders to get them to turn over the keys to the city. But now my effort is rewarded with a fully built city plan and not just 12 tatos. Play is basically everything I'm used to but with cities from the start. Have fun, General. I heard about another settlement that needs help.
If I decide later to turn coat and adopt the raider lifestyle, I don't see much of dilemma: I was going to attack this same settlement/city plan anyway just as if I chose to go...
...The raider path (Bad Guy) Help Jammer. Kill Preston and everyone in the museum because I am a bloodthirsty bastard buffed out on psychobuff and after all those hundreds of hours listening to Radio Freedom I owe it to myself to free myself and take another hit of jet because how else am I going to catch up to Mama Murphy, that rabbit is fast! Take over settlements in an entirely new way. Vassals. Slave outposts. New quests. Surprises ahead. No Preston or radio freedom sending me on errands.
The third way is the Jake Finch way. I think I want to be a raider but I'm not sure. Maybe raiding outside the commonwealth, or at least not at my own settlements, is ok. I'll help out Jammz to see if the raider's way is for me (who was it that said, "Once, a philosopher; twice, a stone cold killer"?), but I'll let the Quincey Five live because deep down I am still just a good guy trying to make things right.
