Question Temporary Happiness gone wild!

I've been playing a couple of playthrough and I can't figure out the temporary happiness issue.
I've read all the other threads about why it exists but in my case, I just don't get how it is possible to be -50.

I only have Sanctuary and no other settlers than Preston and his gang + 3 soldiers. No one has died, I defended the settlement during the last raider and got the completed quests (no fail). I have had no other quest for the settlement (kidnapping or otherwise).

I'm very early in the playthrough, 12 hours in, haven't done much questing mostly building the settlement.

One moment I was at -9 temporary happiness and the next -50. There is a real need for reporting this, I am completely stumped as to what could happen for this.

Food, Water, Shelter, Defence.

IF ALL of those are good. Turn off the shelter mechanic in WSFW and see it that helps?

Make sure you haven't assigned plots that reduce happiness. Some have significant penalties like the INDUST / ADV-IND plots.

If still no dice, then I would assume a bug, glitch, or conflict?

Checked all basic need, 100% for each. Also turned off shelter mechanic.

I have a windmill, raider type. Doesn't say anything about happiness in the description. I did destroy it at some point, but happiness didn't go back up. I'll try destroying it and waiting for a long time see if there is any impact.

Other thing I will try is complete Preston's quest, maybe the game figures there's a failed on uncompleted quest.

Alright so I've narrowed it down to this. Every time someone is assigned or reassigned to a plot, it creates a temporary unhappiness big enough to put me at -50.

It also happens when it is done automatically leaving me at very low happiness all the time.

I play with minutement liberator, I don't know if it is related or not. Will keep testing.

Wow, thanks for narrowing that down Scipion. I've been struggling to understand this for ages and it never occurred to me (nor would it have in the future) to test reassignment--but it surely is the problem for me as well.

It would be great if someone in the know could say if getting -50 for reassignment is a bug or a feature, and if it's a feature, can we disable or circumvent it using console commands/hacks--it's really awful to play with as the only player activity to counter it now is to wait/burn time in game and IRL :)

Autoassignent is currently having issues. It's a PITA, I know, but turn it all OFF. Also turn off "Auto-Change Roles" in SSC options.

Even if WSFW and SS having all auto options to OFF, the Conq system is constantly playing musical chairs with my people - different soliders are doing different jobs all the time.

Looking at the logs, near as I can figure, the daily Conq update is grabbing an idle Warrior, and saying "are they qualified to run a plot," and of course they are, so it assigns them to a random Entertainment plot - even if someone else is already assigned there. That person then gets bumped off, becomes jobless, and is now qualified to run a plot....

Fortunately each NPC is only grabbed once, so if someone was employed when they got their check, they won't be checked again; so you can have NPCs get multiple jobs in one day, but getting caught in an infinite loop is impossible.

There are currently no options I can see that will stop Conqueror from assigning folks during the daily update. But WSFW and SS options being OFF will cut down on the chaos.

What I do now is just turn ASAM vision on Homeless whenever I visit an Outpost or Vassal so I can slap people into homes when new folks show up.

I have also been hit many times with a -50 temp happiness for no tangible reason; more Entertainment plots than Adv Ind, all needs 100% in the Needs report, an excess of resources, etc. and so forth. However, since killing all the auto options, it has happened only once, and I think it was due to Warrior death in an assault.

Agreed! Auto assignment or role change of any kind on anywhere is pure chaos. With those off, you can get some normalcy in vanilla settlements, but Conqueror-controlled outposts and vassals are still a nightmare of changing assignments and roles. I've been playing like that for a while and still see both random -50 temporary happiness as well as -50s I can attribute to reassignment.

Like WSFW's disable shelter mechanic, which also keeps rockin' happiness stuff even when disabled, this all feels like we're pressing street-crossing buttons that aren't actually wired up to anything.

I'm also getting hit with random -50 temporary happiness modifiers, and I managed to identify that assigning one of my freshly recruited unemployed raiders to the only agricultural plot (previously unworked) in my settlement of 20 raiders induces the -50 modifier.

To be accurate, it was at -24 temporary happiness already, possible because I lost two raiders during my last assault, (only one originated from the affected settlement though) or from something else, it's unclear. When the raider is assigned to the agricultural plot on my return to the settlement, it goes from -24 to -50. If I can delete the agricultural plot quickly before anyone is auto assigned to it, it stays at -24.

I know raider's aren't supposed to like farming, but I feel like that mechanic is not working as intended. I have 2 recreational plots, a population of 20, perfect food, water, bed, defense and shelter scores, 8 bonus happiness, but the happiness of this settlement, which is my main outpost, has not gone above 45 the entire game.
