Suggestion: food-related factories

There is a lot of old pre-war food lying around in the commonwealth. Scavengers could gather that as well. It is half-spoiled and radioactive, though, but that's exactly where the factory comes in.

At level 1, it just produces radioactive food items like cram, sugar bombs, etc. Scavengers just gather it and dump it.
At level 2, it still produces radioactive food, but also some cleaned variants. Maybe just use the pre-war variants, or some new "purified" versions, which don't cause any radiation damage, have no chance to give you (survival) diseases and maybe even restore more hunger. At this point, it can't clean up the food at the same rate as the scavengers collect it.
At level 3, it no longer produces radioactive food, and will replace any from the workshop with a purified version. Now it can process food faster than scavengers can gather it.
All versions should increase the food level, obviously.

Or, a food paste factory.
Level 1: produces A LOT of food right away, but also costs a lot of happiness and decreases defense slightly. It makes people aggressive and tastes bland.
Level 2: the food production doesn't change, but it costs less happiness. No longer decreases defense. At this point, flavors are introduced, and the aggressivity issue has been fixed.
Level 3: the food production still doesn't change, but now it doesn't cost you any happiness, and even slightly increase defense. Flavors have been worked out by now, and the old aggressivity issue was turned around, so that it only makes you more focused and aggressive against attackers.

I also wanted to suggest something like a food packing facility, but it sounds like the planned Insta-Cook Canned Dinners Factory is pretty much exactly that. Not sure how exactly you would have planned it, my idea would be that it increases the production of farms. Something like, go through all farms, add all their levels together, times some constant.

There is also still this suggestion, just saying :)

stay away from the potted meat though:bad

If you want meat, you want "Prime Meats" (coming soon to) SimHomestead.
L1 Butcher Shop specializing in raw meats and BBQ
L2 Deli specializing in unique meats and deli sandwiches
L3 Fine Dining Restaurant featuring quality meals and entrees.

Ooooohhhhh does that sound cool. I have a suggestion... make it a place where people can bring in meat that they have gotten for processing. Turn it into something better than they could make on the Weber in the backyard.

That might be a bit out of my scripting ability at the moment, but will definitely be in the future ideas list.

Cool. Another idea for you about the BBQ.... use that big spit roaster and stick a whole side of brahnin on it. Get that sucker rotating and have the settler baste the meat. A stack of cordwood on the side and a picnic table would not look out of place either.

So, the canned meat factory will produce basically a variety of new canned meals based on what you have in your workbench. If you don't have the ingredients in your workbench at all, then instead it will produce canned "Mystery Meat Hash".

Of these ideas you have here, the purified foods is basically what the default contraptions food processor does (make purified versions of "old world" food), but the food paste factory I might consider. I like the lab-grown meat one better though, so I'd probably do that first.

Granted, with the new tech trees it wouldn't be hard to incorporate a few of these into a single food tech tree with various pros/cons.

Regardless, all of these are below the current project with retooling the robotics stuff into the new advanced industrial, and with school starting soon my time over the new few weeks is limited (gotta prep for start of the term).

A peek at the L2 Deli.... (oversize spit-roasting brahmin leg rotates above doorway) :)

Don't forget smoked meats.
And with all of the insta mash out there (other than Mystery Meat Hash that Mytigio suggested) I don't know why there aren't Mole Rat Sausage and Mash recipes out there.

Yes.... Bangers and mash. Mix that mole rat meat with some razor grain, black aster, and thistle for that perfect old world taste.
