Stuff Breaking

Hello,

I am new to the mod. I am still in the early stages, going to Olivia to get some advanced functions.

My Problem: Every time I leave the settlement for a few hours, I come back to find that things have broken. My settlement has no waster because the generators have broken that were powering them. My hand pumps have broken too.

I have been following the script and building what I was told to build, but something is obviously missing. Is there a maintenance job? Is someone supposed to be assigned to repair? Where would I do that? The SS2 just not play well with the original pumps and generators?

Thanks.

When using the original pumps and generators be sure they are within the original boundary of the settlement. I know you can place them outside the boundary or if you have a mod that extends the boundary then you want to be sure to keep them within.
Also try moving them and rewiring so each unit is only connected to one other unit. I had an issue in Sanctuary where my pumps and generator keep breaking. I thought they were getting damaged in attacks, so I build a wall around them. No luck, it kept happening. I moved them closer into the settlement and rewired them all and they quit breaking. Hope this works for you.

Check your SS2 settings and see if "maintenance costs" are enabled for vanilla workshop items. You may wish to disable that. SS2 added the maintenance costs to maintain game balance between vanilla objects and plots. I believe the setting is called "non plot maintenance costs."

Thank you! I found that and turned it off. Hopefully that fixes it. As amazing as SS2 is, my finger is inching towards the uninstall button. I woke up, repaired everything, walked from Sanctuary to Abernathy Farms and back, and everything is broken again.

Very strange that I have plenty of the repair materials in my workshop. It is also strange that I have no idea what the "costs" are to keep these things running. It doesn't just disable the water pump or generator, it destroys it.

Are there supposed to be SS2 alternatives to the vanilla power and water? All it is offering me at the moment is 3 basic plot types. (house, work, and food).

in console type player.additem f 99999 a few times and dump a few k caps into the city via the donate function on the desk and see if this fixes stuff breaking.

Early in the Sim Settlements story, you have only Residential, Agriculture, Industrial and Recreational. As the story progresses, more Plot Types will become available (for power, water, etc).

For the record, you only have access to residential, agriculture and industrial plots until you complete New Plots on the Block to unlock the rest; you can't really make much progress until that time.

Yes - and these resources will provide a lot more than most of the vanilla plot objects. Much like the agricultural plots can allow a settler to generate far beyond 6 units of food, water and power plots can get very high indeed (especially once you go from basic to advanced to high tech). The only thing that can consistently beat those are the vault-tec generators from the vault 88 DLC, but those are just kind of cheat items so it's impossible to balance around them.
