I tried multiple times to enter but I can't approach the settlement in any way.
Sanctuary has 15 settlers and it's running smoothly, Sunshine Tiding Coop too.
It appears to only be happening in Starlight Drive-In.
Starlight drive-in has 9 settlers and uses the Starlight--ZJperfplans City Plan.
Help.

Ok so basically starlight probably has 2 problems for your game
1. You will need place everywhere mod to fix step 1 and that is enable the extra scrapping and scrap the theater screen , also scrap the main building and the left broken wing of the main building. Not sure why but the mod doubles up on them.
2. You also have a power problem find a save before you started the city plan and then run the city plan again , but this time find and scrap all the municipal power poles the ones that get power from the power related plots. After scrapping them retire the whole settlement , now place just 1 of the MP poles down and connect a single wire off it to the any other power node.

basically the problem is his leveled plans have power issues that cause crashing when you get close to the settlement , personally I only use single level plans or build my own plans that I export and turn into personal city plans that I can use. When you build a multi level city plan all of your wiring has to be in place at level 1 of the city plan , if the wiring is changed as the level progresses it will break the power grid at least that has been my issue with city plans.

karvoc , gavman and a few others have good plans that have no power issues. Also get transfer settlements mod when you open the workshop it will let you know if there are any broken power grids.

TY SO MUCH
It makes so much sense why it CTD now.
I was able to find a save before using the city plan and I have decided that instead of using it, I will just play with the basic one.
Thank you so so so much.
From now on I will be extra careful with those random city plans TY.

Np just make sure you check and run wires to everything in even the basic city plan. The power grid crash is a bug from the base game so it’s something that can happen with any settlement that has wired connections.

Please note, this is only if you play on a PC as it works using console commands!

This is a mod that checks the settlement you're currently in for power grid errors. This is something that exists in the vanilla game. SS1 would trigger it when you deleted a plot and the power pole deleted with it, which is why in SS2 you need to delete the power poles by themselves. Also, the wireless glitch will cause errors along with other ways of powering a settlement without wires. Not every time, but it can happen.

With this mod installed, you open the console and type cpg (check power grid). It will tell you how many grids exist and either "no errors" or there are x grids with errors. If errors exist, type cpg 1 and it will remove all the the bad nodes. You then need to rewire the settlement.

This leads to one other thing that confused me at first; the fusion generator said it was producing 100 power, but connecting to it did not power the grid. I finally realised that you need to scrap the generators and replace them. After that mod fixes the errors, generators still show they produce power, but they don't.

I was having horrible problems with CTD in and around settlements because I saw a video about how to use the wireless glitch, which makes it easy to power things in places the wires won't reach. After using this tool and rewiring everything, the problem disappeared. The mod that XxA1xX mentioned, Place Everywhere https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/9424 solves some of the problems I solved with wireless glitching. Place allows you to run wires through walls, trees etc. So rather than using a conduit pass through to get the power outside to the inside, I attach a wire to a wall or ceiling conduit, pick it up, walk inside and put it in place. Role playing? We drilled a small hole in the wall and pushed the wire through it.

Good luck!

In my experience, entering settlement when plot auto upgrade is going on inevitably ends up in CTD. The only solution that worked for me is to wait for the notification that the upgrade was finished. After that I could always enter the settlement without problems. This is likely not the universal solution but I hope it helps someone.

Did you try picking the generator up in workshop mode and placing it back down? This can fix a lot of problems like a light bulb that decided it is no longer going to be powered by the conduit right next to it... :todd:

Hi there, having the same CTD problem as I approach Starlight Drive-In. I have the place everywhere mod, and unfortunately setting up this settlement was one of the first things I did when I started my playthrough (I'm about 30 hours in now). Is there any way of clearing the settlement without being inside? Thanks

I've been having the same problem with regular ctds when approaching starlight on foot or fast traveling. I did find one pseudo workaround by fast traveling to drumlin diner or oberland station then walking into starlight from there. If you have a ss2 settlement started before discovering oberland wait about 5 minutes after finding it to allow the scripts to recognize the fact and unlock an oberland inspired house. It may take less time for you but I'm running a fairly script heavy game and it can take a while for the unlocks to trigger and if you head towards a ss2 settlement while a plan is unlocking it's a ctd every time.
