SS2 is a better story that the base game

I wouldn't count on it; they're confirmed to have "Starfield" and "Elder Scrolls 6" in the works right now, so probably not until after that.
Unless you want the Fallout 76 team to do it...
I’m really hoping it goes something like this
starfield 2021
elderscrolls 6 2025
fallout 5 2027-8

there wasn’t a Hugh time difference between Skyrim and Fo4 like 4 years if I remember right or maybe 3 I forget but I’m hoping the Bethesda Austin studio is working on it while the other studios are covering starfield and elderscrolls 6. Starfield is done according to my understanding and just undergoing testing fixes and play testing stuff like that. Guessing the majority of the studios are working on es6 as we speak but who knows.

that lease fo5 as a work in progress maybe the Fo4 team is working on story and backgrounds and then when stearfield is released and es6 is a little farther along the work gets started on it and maybe if we are lucky 2027 ish maybe 2029 at the latest making it a cross generational platform game like Skyrim was where is was released on Xbox 360 and later on the Xbox one. Really hoping it’s more like 2027 though and maybe 2024 for es6 but Bethesda is not known for fast game production.

Right now, I'd just be happy with a date for ES6. Every so often, I break out Skyrim and then a few hours in, I remember that I already know every single inch of that worldspace. Ha ha. Five more years would suck.

On the topic of the SS2 storyline, I have noticed something on my recent playthroughs (using SKK's "Synthetic Player" alt-start mod). I am going to spoiler-code a chunk of text below this.
During one of the early conversations with Jake, the questline properly detects that your character already met "Father" and knows that whole plot twist, changing the dialog quite nicely - there's even an option in one of those dialog choices to be toeing the Institute party line which I like. However, a later conversation with him at the end of "Hub of the Problem" leading into "Coolest Cat" does NOT, and still assumes you are on that quest to find your son and gives you the hint to track down Nick. I realise that putting in more of those checks would add even more work for such a stupid niche situation, but you already did it once...however, it could also be that that mod isn't setting ALL the right 'flags' for SS2 to check for that too. Or it could be that that quest is only checking for "has the player-character met Nick" and not "have they already gotten past that point in the questline" also?

I do the same about every other month or so I’ll delete everything Skyrim related then load up a new bunch of mods and start a new game. Then play for a day or two and just do specific mod related stuff Then stop playing it again for a while.

hopefully the new infusion of Microsoft money will get them off their asses and making games slightly faster.

I wait longer, but yes! Exactly! I haven't even tried to play this year. But I've really been craving my fix. I spend time every quarter or so looking to see if someone has released anything playable... A new Dragon Age, maybe? Nope. I even looked at Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-reckoning. But alas... only a true ES game will satisfy me now. I keep hoping they'll make it so we can build little towns in ES6. Man... that would be my ultimate game.

yes i really want a building system in es6 but not the massive 30 plus settlements of fo4 maybe a smaller town or two that you can build up as a base of operations or something like a small city rebuild like how mods do for kavatch in oblivion but on a better larger scale.

as far as games I'm really hoping avowed from obsidian is released around 2022 and is amazing the scenes we have gotten so far are looking good that battle part shooting arrows off the castle walls is pretty epic looking to me.

Agreed. Honestly I'd be happy with one or two home spaces I can build up. There was a groovy town mod I used for a while... I'd love to build something like that.
Avowed looks cool! I hadn't seen the trailer until now.

And some of the not-so-obvious next steps have me actually thinking.
I had that a lot on my first playthrough. I was cursing a little until I remembered this is Sim Settlements and not the hand holding vanilla style.
I like the SS1 IR quests. The old School RPG style that caused me endless frustration coupled with great satisfaction when I finally figured it out. Much better than go fetch this or go shoot that.

I am enjoying this much more than any other story mod I've fiddled with so far... except maybe for... The Machine and Her. Totally different though.

It's a missing flag for sure, there are always alternate lines if the player had already reached the Institute. I shall look into that, good catch!

I can't say it's a better story than Vanilla, but it beats starting the main story off on the word of a drugged up elderly woman.
What do you mean, introducing drug-based psychic powers just so she can tell you something anyone in The Commonwealth wouldve been able to was definitely a great idea.
(yes I know psykers were already a thing in the Fallout verse, and she IS the way to access the very few "alternate options" during the Main Questline, it was just so sloppily done)

I cannot agree more about Mama Murphy. I like Mama Murphy, but the whole idea that she's got "the sight" from being on drugs... kinda whacky. Fallout 76 is even worse, honestly. There are weird hunched back miners, random dragon type things, and bubble headed swamp monsters. I mean... really?? Because of a nuclear bomb? lol

I like Jake's story a lot, though.

Just gonna throw in my two cents here..
Ideal game: Fallout 4 but replace main quest with SS2. Factions are more in the background. Institute is chill (don't replace people but still enslave synths), the factions don't force you into anything, BoS roll in just with their OG goal of preserving tech. It's all focused on rebuilding the commonwealth while also surviving it and taking out the trash.
You build a rep and get help, hang out with Jake and build settlements. BoS would be a great ally in the ASAM issue but do you trust them with the tech and agree to their conditions, or will you say "f you" and find a way into the controversial Institute to get their help? Now THAT would be a fun, unlike being forced to blow up anything.

I have always wished we have more options with those factions. For instance, if I take over the Institute, why can't I decide to let synths have their freedom? Why can't the BoS be more tolerable of things that aren't actually threats?

This is exactly why I usually now only do the main story far enough to get access to The Institute and have The Prydwen fly into the Commonwealth. So I can "headcanon" what they're doing now.

Yeah I pretty much stop the main story after the bos shows up and around the first visit to the institute , if not before Leaving them as the behind the scenes boogie man everybody says they are. The you can do pretty much anything else.

That's exactly what I did in my last play through... I got into all main factions, then when they told me to destroy the other, I just didn't and kept playing other quests and mods instead. I don't have time for a vertibird or rogue gang of synths to attack me every time I'm trying to do something else.

I've heard voice actors generally can't portray characters outside the original contract. Though, Cameo (the app in which celebrities record video or audio for fans for a price) has shown that some are more willing to do so than others. It's a risky move, though. Erik Todd Dellums, who voiced Three Dog in Fallout 3, was supposed to be in Fallout 4, but before it was announced, he Tweeted out a bunch of rumors about the game, and ended up not being in the game. Though, it was never confirmed that he was not invited back because of the Tweets. His part could have been cut for other reasons. (To this date, it's not even known what his part was.)

That said, it would be awesome if it could happen!
