SS2 and Minutemen Playthrough

I am preparing to do 2 new playthroughs of Fallout 4 one I have already decided on SS1 for the Nuka World Raider playthrough (all these playthroughs will be heavily modded still sorting and deciding on what mods both will have and what ones I will add for each separate one). The Second one will be a good guy Minutemen playthrough and I am considering SS2 without any story spoilers for SS2 how would it work with a Minutemen focused playthrough. Is that a good thing??

The SS2 questline only barely touches the "vanilla" main quest, and only at the point you would initially meet Preston & co. Otherwise they're almost entirely separate. There's a couple of minor, optional things that seem to be triggered by progress through the vanilla main quest, but that's about it.

I don't think you have to do any part of the Vanilla quest at all, except for maybe the stuff with Codsworth. I have just now completed the SS2 main quest and the only thing I have done with the MSQ is the stuff with Codsworth and I did get to Ellie in Diamond City and got the quest to rescue Nick and even then nothing in the SS main quest seemed to indicate I had to do that. Jake makes a mention once about "hey since you'll be in Diamond City talking to the Ron you can check on your own thing" but it doesn't seem to indicate you have to. Obviously you have to get IN to Diamond City somehow.

ok thought I would see how it would line up with the Minuteman playthrough as personally I liked the main questline in F4 and I do my playthroughs based off my character and which questline I want to focus on and was hoping that the Minutemen (MM) questline and the SS2 questline worked together and maybe even complimented each other.

Edit: To explain I am what I call a Immersion player (Yes I know people use immersion alot but to me immersion is being the character alot of people call that Role Playing the char but I don't consider myself a full Role Player. Most people do what I call play the game but I play the character.). So I am very picky about sticking close to the lore (that means not breaking it with out of the lore things) and was just curious. I am tempted to watch a let's play of SS2 I prefer not to spoil myself but sometimes when deciding on mods I have to make sure it lines up with what I consider for myself (for example I was thinking about trying New California for FNV but after watching some of the Gopher Let's Play that mod imho was way too lore breaking in many things it looks like a great mod but just not for me.)

All I can say is play the game in the way that makes you happy and more power to you for it.
From my experience (and understanding of the lore) I found nothing lore breaking in my playthrough of SS2. They even make reference to some of the lore established by 76. If anything the quests and resource management enhancements they made actually make SS2 more immersive than SS1.

Thanks I am still considering watching a lets play but that is good info thanks and yeah one issue I had with SS1 was the inclusion of a superweapon from the Mojave in the commonwealth as I never got to that point in SS1 I did not mind it too much because SS in general is such a great mod.

I usually do the Minutemen and so far haven't had any problems. I have one vault game where I started in Sanctuary so I left them at Concord until Jake was done showing me how to use everything, and then went back for them.

My other one is using the alternate start and I began that at Red Rocket. Since I usually tell Preston I'll think about joining, They all went to Sanctuary and Jake returned with me to Red Rocket. I've sense joined the Minutemen and that is working. I'm farther along with this one, just left Dimond City, so will see what happens, but so far so good.

To be perfectly honest, "Lorewise" I do have some minor niggles with a couple of character backstories on the new unique settlers - it appears traveling all the way across the US is no longer that big a deal. Its pretty damn minor though in the grand scheme of things.
