With workshop framework thwarting me again I figured Id write a bit on how I set up contests in the hope it helps someone else :D

I was musing (while waiting for a settlement to export) on how much Ive learned about making settlements for the contest - so I figured Id share. Also with my memory it couldnt hurt to have it written down :D

Pre Build Preperation
1) Make a load order with the SS2 mods you want to use and anything else vital. Do not have it with your mod your working on enabled. Claim Sanctuary and use the 20078 holotape to advance the quest stages to the end of chapter 1. Now the random settlers and the like will show up here instead of your worksite (also Jake will go away :P ).

2) In addition to making a hard save use the console command too. Its "Save "SomethingThatIdentifiesTheSave - for example 'Save BostonAirportLvlOmega'
The omega level is for before I go to the site and start building. Its the starting point for all build playthroughs. Its also my fallback if my settlement omega save gets lost / corrupted.

3) I go to my build site. Make an Omega Save with a city desk all set up So when I want to build a fresh design or tweak something else I can just hop back into that save and it will be ready to go. For example I might do an Omega save with a settlement built next to an outpost so the outpost can lean on them for resources - Id rather only set that up once ;)

Time to Build
1) Grab some plots that are large 3x3 and plop them down. Use the tape to make them level 3. Then you can move them around roughly to the position you want. Then toss in the 2x2 you think might look good. Advancing them to level 3 too. Making sure to advance them you will know EXACTLY how much room their final form will take up. Much easier design.

2) After roughing out the base add in 1x1 plots to fill in the needs your other stuff doesnt provide. Add in some walls and decorations and you have your level 3 design done.

Example: At Sunshine Tidings I wanted to have junk walls so I went though the plots and found all the commercial, residential, and martial plots that were city walls and built them. Advanced to 3. Then figured out where I could place the plots and where I felt it looked best. Walls can be especially tricky with how large they can get.

There are some handy guides in the Wiki to how to down level your plan so you get a level 2, 1, 0 out of it.

I hope this helps someone to build a bit more organized :D
If you have any suggestions please add them :)
