some minor tips

So i have play fallout 4 for about 1000 hours at this point and i will say that over that time i have picked up some good tips and tricks that can help your playthrough of the game.

1. caps are everything.
at the start of any roam in the wasteland you will find that your a bit short on caps making it hard to buy certain items you might want down the road, my tip is look for a triby, black rim glass's and a good charisma 2 suit. (i suggest something clean) the extra four charisma can really help when you are wanting to have better deals for certain items like concrete shipments and ammo (i use alot of concrete when building) also best to have atleast 6 charisma when you start your adventure so you can easily take on those hard speech checks. something else to keep in mind is where perk magazines are, in my case the junktown jerky mags. and lucky for you three of these are rather close to each other. the first one you want to get is in walden pond when on your way to corvega for the first time, then head to the nursing home that is across the lake from covenant (this one is right to the left of you when you enter through the front door. and if you feel like you can take on ghoals at the start of the game then head to the superduper mart to get the third one (it's right at the pharmacy for those that miss it)

2. Weapons and ammo.
Something i would recommend is hoping for a good legendary drop that isn't some worthless peice of raider armor. (i get these far too often). buying legendarys can also be expensive as well but at the start of the game there are a few that you can easily get. for melee players go for general chao's revenge which trudy sells.it's a pretty good sword until you get something like the buzz blade. for automatic maniac's like myself i would squat outside of vault 81 and wait for cricket so show up, since for me atleast the spray and pay is the best auto weapon until you go to far harbor. and for rifle characters go with the overseer's guardian since maxed out that thing can do about 150 damage per shot. And though ammo can sometimes be hard to come by, it can be easier if you start off sanctuary with an iron mine and go for the ammo factory route at the start.

3. Settlements.

something i have found to be something of a chore is managing your settlements and making sure all your people are safe and protected. And with sim settlements this is pretty easy but when it comes to the settlement plans i would start slow and let new citys crop up slowly instead of quickly. for instance only allow for city plans to start at places like tenpines, abernathy, sunset tidings, red rocket and if you don't like building settlements yourself sanctuary and starlight drivin first, don't move past the concord highways until you get some of your starting settlements to level one. since having a ton of foundation level settlements is just going to put a strain on what little resources they can produce.

4. armor and protection.

Honestly all i can say is stick with power armor since you can get about 10 fusion cores just inside the area surrounded by the concord highways. (12 if your wanting to take out red earily on) though keep some armor in hand if your just going between settlements to check on them and making sure they are all growing. (since you don't want to waste fusion cores when commuting.) the only time you should be going around without power armor long term is after you meet the railroad and get balistic weave.(so your not so defenseless, besides i always shoot down vertibirds out of habit so i have to keep an eye out for those all the time. )

anyway those are some little tips that i live by in the wasteland, and granted i am currently experimenting with the whole keeping a small number of settlements at a time thing so i'm not sure how thats going to work out yet.

One thing I will do with my next playthrough is more selective settlement acquisition.

To pipe up with a couple newbie tips:

1/ when exploring move around in sneak mode and keep an eye on the “Hidden” meter (you don’t have to have a sneak build to do this)

2/ when the meter moves spam the VATS button - you don’t have to use VATS, when you come out of it you’ll be looking right at your opponent

3/ Trudy at Drumlin Diner also sells a beginner silenced weapon, if you want to snipe opponents without alerting everything to your presence

and for rifle characters go with the overseer's guardian since maxed out that thing can do about 150 damage per shot.

I just started a play-through where I restrict myself to not get the Overseer's Guardian and take a wild guess what a ghoul in the National Guard Training Yard drops... a two-shot Combat Rifle. Yeah, thanks lol.

Thats pretty damn lucky, heck during my first playthrough when i was saving nick one of the triggermen dropped an explosive submachine gun.

of course back then i was still in fallout new vagas mode, so i wasn't setting up my character right and using whatever guns i had ammo for. these days i do everything i can to rush for an ammo factory so i can continue to feed my .45 addiction
