I know I'm kinda late to this and it might've been said by another guy, but based on the design and what I've heard from Warhammer lore is that the Death Korps of Krieg was more based off of the Imperial German Army of the German Empire around 20 years before Hitler and the Nazis came to power, but then again I might need to read a bit more about them and what not.
