Sim settlements stopped working mid-game

Hello everyone, I am having an issue with Sim Settlements at the moment. First, a little backstory...

Earlier today, I started a new settlement in Sunshine Tidings Co-op. Everything was working ok, and this was the third sim settlement I have started in this particular save game (other two are Sanctuary and Abernathy Farm). Fast forward a few hours later, I start a new city in Starlight Drive In, This time however, the camera did not pan out like it usually does, and things where being built right next to me. I didn't think much of it but ended up reloading my save and just skipping that settlement for now.

Just a few minutes ago, I fast traveled to Sanctuary, and noticed my defense score was low (per Hud Framework)... I built some turrets but nothing changed. My next step was to "Refresh all local plots". No notifications, nothing is happening like the last few times it did when I had done this in the past. I did notice a repeating error in my papyrus log afterwards (650,000 lines of the same error!).

Sim Settlement addons used:
  • IDEK's Logistics Station
  • Ted's Leader Pack
  • Spawn Settlers button for Sim Settlements
 
Unfortunately I just had the same problem. Sim Settlements simply stopped working, in the middle of the game. I left from Sunshine Tidings and everything was fine. Then I got back to Red Rocket area and nothing was working.

HUD does not even come up anymore. Fallrim tool didn't solve the problem. Save simply crashes from load.

I am looking in to this right now. Let's see if we can solve what is going on. Only recent update I have made was for Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch. I didn't notice anything that would have caused the rpobem from there and game ran correctly for several days after the update. Weird.
 
I just checked my save with Fallrim Tool. I noticed that there was 98 suspended stacks coming from workshopparentscript.

I am going to try to find an isolated cell - like Home Plate - and spend few ingame days there. That might clear them out. (As Chef pointed out in a chat.)

If you load the save in Fallrim, then do you see the same issue?

Edit: More than one pair of eyes took a look at this thread and noticed something from the log - which I missed.

Have you uninstalled any mods from ongoing game? Pointing to:

Ilja and I have been talking a bit about this. Seeing that error usually isn't a good thing. I had a couple questions related to it.

Do you have any mods that were active that you have deactivated?
Did you uninstall any mods during this save?
Did you ever clean "Orphaned Scripts" with Fallrim Tools?
Did you try and import a settlement using Transfer Settlements that may have had a mod in that settlement that you are not using?
Did you open your save with Fallrim and then save that file at any point?

I'm just trying to narrow down why you may be seeing that error.

No I have not.

I think I MAY have left Sanctuary after starting a Refresh all Local Plots without waiting for it to finish, but I honestly am not sure. I was able to revert to a save before I set up Sunshine Tidings, and things appear to be working fine. Maybe the issue is with Sunshine Tidings, as this seems to be where both Mine and llja's settlements stopped working?
 
Here is something I just thought about, and Ilja may have a better view on it though. The latest update of UFO4P updated a bunch of things with the workshopparent script. It may be that either that update cannot be made in an ongoing save for a couple of reasons.

1. It may not be advisable to update UFO4P during an ongoing game with SimS.
2. It may not be advisable to update UFO4P during an ongoing game in general.
3. It may be that those changes just interfere with SimS in general, since SimS is pretty involved with that script.
4. Possibly when updating UFO4P you need to go sit in an interior cell for a good while and let areas unload and scripts to clean themselves up.

Those are my best guesses. Ilja may have a better idea.

EDIT: One thing (among many) that I learned when making a mod is that it can be complicated to update or make changes to a script after it has started running. The workshopparent script starts running at "New Game". This may be a part of the problem that you are running into.
 
Did you have any suspended stacks in the save? You can check this by loading the save in Fallrim Tools.

I found a save without suspended stacks from Sunshine Tidings. I am going to skip the area for now and visit Home Plate in Diamond City, letting the whole area to cool down for few ingame days. That might solve the problem, if this is just about workshopparentscript getting stuck.

If you can exit the area, or find a close by save that allows you to do so, then that is worth to try as well. It doesn't need to be Home Plate. Any interior cell with less than normal script activity would do.

I still haven't found any proof that updating UFO4P caused this, but game always does suffer from record and script change recovery issues for a moment. It isn't ruled out that updating patch caused workshopparentscript to get confused.
 
I had this exact same issue happen to me. I tried many different things until I read this post.
I also updated UFO4P, and noticed this was acting funny. The HUD not updating, or taking a long time to do so. I went to a settlement I opened up a wile back, but did not set up, and SS would not work at all there.
So I reinstalled the previous version of UFO4P, and every thing is back to normal.
 
There are no old versions of UFOP posted. Personally I download everything manually and then keep a folder that has a copy of every archive I have ever downloaded on my NAS. You could do the same thing on a USB drive too. That way if you ever need an old version, you have one on hand.

Chances are though your chosen mod manager has the download archive for 2.0.4 in its archive folder though.

I have version 205, as I never did delete it. Updating to that from 204 did not cause any issues like this.
Updating to 205a did.
I do not know if I can post a link to it here, as I would have to upload it somewhere.
 
I would be careful about posting a public link to something like that. I would ask a mod first. I just wouldn't want you to get in trouble while trying to help someone out.
 
I agree. This may take several it convince them to put up the old version. I don't know why the don't leave up older versions.
I am just glad I did save the old one, as I would hate to have to start a new game.
 
They have specific reasons for not posting old versions, I can pretty much guarantee that will not change, and asking on the mod page may lead to a less than favorable response. Just heads up.
 
2.0.5a had nothing but UFO4P fixes in it. I can't see those two fixes causing this issue.

If you guys have hard data, then I can drop it forward. I am not worried about arguing with the team. Been there, done that - several times before.

However: here are the fixes for 2.0.5a. I simply can not see how these could have caused the issue.

  • Fixed an unforeseen issue with the security door in the Mechanist's Lair that was causing it to not open under certain conditions. (Bug #25189)
  • Reverted the fix for Raider torso armors specifying 01-06 variants as the actual meshes are all the same type with only visual differences that don't matter.
 
I wish I could give hard data on this. This game is so buggy it very hard to pinpoint any one cause.
It could even be updating this for all I know.
One day I am fine. Can play for hours, and have no issues. Update on mod, bamm crash, things don't work right.
 
I have the same issue. Been trying to fix for weeks. I restarted, took out any known trouble mods, used only recommended mods for settlements . Reinstalled Sim Settlements, Industrial and Rise, took out Spring cleaners also used LOOT to ensure all good. No matte what it came back. Really strange is that it will work for a while and then start running the script and stop. Refresh plots and it does one and stalls. It will start recalculating usage but not finish. Going to previous saves and it works again. I was at level 61 with lvl 2 and 3 settlements when it started then restarted fresh and now at level 15 it came back with much fewer settlements and those I had were lvl 1 or 0. Just download Workshop framework ver 1.02 on a known problem save and see if it fixes.
