Scrap Everything?

This thread started for me quest for best scraping. I started with scrap everything ... back in 2015... Tried Clean My settlement but it was too little so i want to use Immersive Cleaning what caused for me seizure starting flickering fest. So I tried MDF Grass Fix and that rally clean almost everything really nice with most grass also gone... But still left over some big piles of ruble in castle and you get no resource from cleaning... So it seams that i go back for Scrap everything... you can clean really everything and get lots of stuf from scraping... question stand how bad for SS2 is lost of precombines? And do you get fps drop simply instaling it? or after you scrap things?

You get FPS drip just from having precombines deactivated in the .ini, and it only gets worse when you delete something that breaks previs.

The problems caused by damaging the precombines and previs isn't limited to fps drops. It's also a cumulative, Too much of it and you will start having problems later on that may be hard to associate with SE, like the surging molerat bug (can't save or exit a closed cell that has molerates or blood bugs attacks). After I stopped using it, that problem went away. After I get Sanctuary Built up, I started having weird problems there and definite fps issues. Also consider, that when you have SE activated, it's a difficult to see what is unsafe to scrap. Talk about screwing up Vault 88! It's especially dangerous there. I was also finding bright white empty planes in some interior cells. If you've already done damage to your game, I can tell from my experience that simply deactivating SE won't improve anything.

I've seen a lot of people talking about Immersive Cleaning. I've tried it a couple times, but it just doesn't behave well for me. I use MDF Grass Fix. Mad Dog Fargo has made new recompines and previs' for most settlements. I like how he packages it as separate plugins so you can pick and choose. I also use a handful of Clean and Simple settlements by Jenncave. Although she doesn't do recombines, she seems to do something else that makes them safe. Personally, I think the ones she develops with Hozea are particularly good and well pathed. Her style is very spare and clean, a little too clean for my taste, but they are nice. There is a small problem with Sanctuary because she does a lot ground sculpting there, so somethings might be floating above her ground. And speaking of Hozea, I use his Castle mod instead of Jenncave's. His Castle is very clean and repaired, even the side where the armory is has been restored.

Lately, I've been experimenting with FrogPrincess' Seasons. I've only tried Autumn and that really flattened the grass nicely. Won't do anything for trash, however.

OK so how big fps drop we talking about? and what do you suggest using?

NeuBleu
But this mods you use changes vanilla settlements and are not usable in SS2 autobulid. Or are they?

Depends on your rig, load order, and location. I have a gtx 1060 3gb, i7-7700, and 32 gigs of system RAM. When I started my last Conqueror run I didn't know I had pre-rendered objects deactivated, and I was running better grass, but not a ton of other environmental mods. My game was running at about 45-60 fps. I had Scrap Everything as the only clean up mod. I was pretty careful about what I scrapped (mostly leaf piles and vines). I then accidentally scrapped a hedgerow in Sanctuary and broke previs so that I could see through the world into nothing. That dropped me by like 25 fps when I was looking at it, and 15 when I wasn't (but still in the cell).

I then went into investigation mode, as I thought I had my precombines enabled. I fixed my .ini, which removed a lot of functionality from Scrap Everything, but wasn't about to remove the mod mid play. I then loaded a save from before I messed my game up, and all of a sudden I was getting a solid 55-60 fps (limited to 60).

The thing is my .ini kept getting edited by one of my mods so that precombines kept getting deactivated periodically. Might have been SE, but it could have been something else. I had to go back in and correct it several times. I didn't try making it read only, as I got distracted by another game.

Right now I'm using IC only.

BTW- I've had success in the past fixing things in the CK when I messed up the previs in game. If you know the cell that had the object deleted you can load it up in the CK and recalculate previs data. It will fix the broken visual holes in the world, but it's always best to avoid the risk entirely. If you have to do this then you know that something is wrong with your game.

So its MDF Grass Fix and Immersive Cleaning copatible v SS2 autobuild?

I'm not sure what you mean. I've not used MDF grass fix. The mod I was referring to in my anecdote was Better Landscape Grass, and I only mentioned it because it probably had a small impact on my frame rate. It isn't a clean up mod.

I only just got to the point in the story of SS2 where the first city was built, and the plan seemed to build itself (Jamaica Plane) as it was supposed to. I haven't done any other SS2 city plans so far.

MDF Grass Fix mainly remove grass but also clean your settlements from trash. Tried it at castle but i am not sure if it will not cause the problems at autobuild. Thanks for the exhausting replies.

But this mods change vanilla settlements so it is probably not compatible with SS2 autobuild feature. But your ide of not scraping castle that you cannot scrap enough anyway is interesting. Gona try that!

I have always used it, and I'm not sure I've ever experienced a big issue with it. The only problem I have noticed when it comes to SS is in regards to city plans, as they are typically designed with the idea that you didn't scrap the entire settlement down :blum

Immersive Cleaning = Trash and clutter
Clean my Settlement = Leaves and bushes
Place Everywhere = what's left

Got all of these but I want to be able to scrap some/most of the houses in Sanctuary and the hedges, Raze My Settlement didn't remove them. Is there anything that can be done or will so much valuable land be unusable?

I don't understand how to get Place Everywhere to scrap things? I pressed ins and got a popup saying i'd enabled something, but nothing changed.

I need to get rid of those ugly stupid halloween decorations in Sanctuary

That enables "Extra Object Selection", which will allow you to mouse over and thus manipulate more things while in 'build mode' - including being able to scrap SOME things you couldn't before.

I'm no expert. I only know what I have read in the wiki and on mod pages. That said, I think SE is great and I have used it through hundreds of hours of gameplay along with SS1. It was on my list of essential mods up until I found these others. For me, the problem with SE is that it breaks precombines. Not a problem at the start but once I have gone through most of the settlements scrapping all the things I want to (which is pretty much every bush, hedge, vine, vehicle, and ruined building) my game starts to lag. I still have it for those objects that I just have to remove, but with my current mod setup, I am only breaking a few precombines and not hundreds. YMMV
Scrap everything is essential IMO. Every building mod for FO4 should keep this in mind: the Bethesda devs are trolls that offer the VERY worst building spaces and seem to intentionally make places unbuildable. I've read that scrap everything causes some problems with city plans though. I like to layout my own settlements so it should be ok. The idea that builders prepare an area before construction should always be on the mind. Leveling the ground, clearing up debris etc. PS: Has anyone heard about T.C.S.P. (The Commonwealth Sanitation Program) mod? Any problems with it?

Believe what you want to believe, but Scrap Everything breaks precombines. Precombines are necessary to optimize performance in a way that makes the game engine work, so doing so is going to create performance problems that have a good chance of leading to lots of CTDs and corrupting your save eventually - https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/articles/3202/

Ok. Thanks. What would you use to clean up settlement areas to usable? I have started using Place Everywhere's functions more. Does that cause the same broken precombines? I'm a noob and had to search for what precombines even are. Sooo.... lol.

Place Everywhere is as near as anyone will get on the "consensus" of a preferred, safe option/solution.

I also use the two mods below, which are unofficially SS-approved. That being, I have used both for 1000's of hours, they were made by a SS-author, and based on workshop framework directly/indirectly and used extensively while testing SS-content.

Clean My Settlement REDUX, Note: "NO PRECOMBINES BROKEN"

And

Raze My Settlement, & needs workshop framework

There may be others, but the 3 mods above are my suggestion as scrap solutions.
There are other solutions as in "overhauls and such" but the 3 mentioned here are the most flexible, LO friendly, and preserve performance and help avoid game-ending bugs from the mid to late game.

Scrap Everything in the early game might seem fine but at some point will likely cause game-ending kinds of issues.

I'm grateful. Thanks again. I have had "Raze" before. I'll look into "Clean".
