I'm doing an Institute playthrough and much of my soldiery are Gen-1 and Gen-2 Synths. The Human ones I consider Gen-3s and they get a mix of Synth uniform/armor and Courser jacket. I assaulted Murkwater to make it an outpost. Murkwater was Mercer Safehouse before I destroyed the Railroad. Thing is, the Railroad Agents were still there, marked as hostile in VATS but they didn't shoot at me and my soldiers didn't shoot at them. I was thinking, "Cool, maybe they'll patrol the outpost after I take it even though I killed Mayor Deacon a long time ago."

Wiped out the Gunners and was told to hold against reinforcements. A single Gunner Captain came in and was quickly killed. I then waited, and waited, and waited thinking it was the damned reinforcement bug. I was about to go to a previous save and try again when out of boredom I launched a Fatman shell at three Railroad agents standing together in the swamp. The quest stage then turned to finishing off the rest of the reinforcements. The Railroad Agents were considered the reinforcements! I killed the last two and the Quest completed.

I thought it was interesting, and while I'm sure not intended, it would have been cool to have Railroad (and BoS) remnants actually joining with the Gunners.

The settlers there are all depressed (I call it the Sheffield Shuffle) so I put them in the Agents' Railroad gear and conscripted them as fodder for assaults. I kinda hope they slump into combat all depressed.

I had some random BoS soldier count as reinforcements once. Very weird!
