Questions about tossing things into the virtual storage

Before I start dumping things into virtual storage, I have a few questions:
  1. What can I toss into the virtual storage? Food? Ammo? Weapons? Armor? Those burnt books and folders which I find everywhere?
  2. What happens to food, ammo, weapons, and armor tossed into the virtual storage? Are they broken down into scrap for plot use?
  3. If weapons and armor are scraped, what level of scrapper are they scrapped at. Can I toss in all the excess armor and weapons right away and have them broken down into the more complete scrap parts or do I need to have that level of scrapper first?
Thanks all. Playing on the XBOne and it seems to be working well enough so far, though any tips for minimizing script load are also helpful.

At present you can only deposit Caps and Junk into there, itll spit it back out if you try anything else.

  1. As stared above, currently only caps and scrap.
  2. Scrap is broken down to its components and put into virtual storage up to the amount of empty virtual storage space available.
    1. You can think of virtual storage as a virtual workbench. Items in virtual storage are used to pay for plot construction, upgrades and maintenance.
    2. There are items in the build menu under SS2 --> Storage that allow you to increase the amount of virtual storage available.
  3. This one I'm not sure. Given the care the SS2 team takes to stay close to a vanilla experience, I'd guess the breakdown is the same as it you did it manually.
There is some information to be found on the Wiki:

This isn’t as relevant to the conversation, but I’ve decided to use place anywhere and stick the containers mostly in the built up wall under the bridge. I plan on leaving them partly exposed as a way to increase the number of them while not taking up building space.

I've been setting up "container shacks" or looking for weird, out of the way places to put them. It ends up reminding me of the giant storage container we have out on the land I like to do an annual camping retreat on.
Well, back when we could go places...:no::no:

I've been using containers to plug gaps in the hedge at Sanctuary. Works great to prevent raids from splitting up and sneaking in somewhere.
