Problem with base game assignments

So first want to start saying that this mod is fantastic. The quests are better than main game sidequests, and the building is much more fun than it was in the base game. It has rekindled my interest in playing fallout 4 again after years of not playing anymore.

That said, I have run into a little issue. I am building up Sanctuary and progressing through the questline slowly, but something strange is happenign with settlers (named or not) that I have assigned to objects not related to sim settlements. I have two guards patrolling the borders assigned to guard posts, one assigned to nothing and Marcy Long assigned to some normal crops. When returning to sanctuary after adventuring I found those four settlers doing nothing anymore and losing assignments. Just standing around doing nothing ever. Sometimes I am able to bump against them, and i could push them around without them walking, very strange. Still assigned to residential plots but that is about it. I re assign them, but they never return to normal. Not doing anything, and everytime I lose the defense and food bonuses they provide. This does not happen to settlers assigned to plots to do stuff. I disable the guards, spawned two new ones, but after a few fast travels, they get confused again. I do not know how to fix this besides never assigning settlers to base game stuff again. Although this also happened to a settler not assigned to work anything. I do have other mods installed and creation club stuff, the load order of sim settlements 2 is done according to the wiki.
I also have the problem of HOLOs being on top of each other sometimes. This disappears temporarily when refreshing a plot.

If anybody has any tips to resolve this please share!

Small bump to my earlier post. For now I am not assigning anybody to do base game things anymore, but I do hate having npc's in my game that are now lost to me (unresponsive). Anybody else noticed this problem? Or is it just my (modded) game?

I have had this issue as well been working on figuring it out for a while. It is an early game issue because once you unlock the Martial, Commerce, Recreation, and Municipal plots it no longer matters. However I am bound and determined to figure it out just because it is frustrating.

I got part of it solved, but I still have a few issues.
1. Make sure the items being assigned to are having their operating costs paid. Some vanilla items have an operating cost that is not shown unless you have the hover display option on. For example, each tato plant costs 1 wood and 6 point defense items cost a lot of steel and clothing.
2. As long as you have a job opening on any SS plot it will try pulling the vanilla ones to fill it if you have SS auto assign on. For example, I had a 3x3 farm and I only put two settlers on it because I did not need the excess food (as it only inflates defense requirements I am struggling with) it kept stealing a guard to fill it, only when it stole one guard it was unassigning all guards.

Right now I have a Red Rocket with 4 settlers on defense on 12 2 point guard posts. When I get back to the settlement some have left their posts and others have now. Sometimes one of the guard will leave one or two of the post but remain on one. The real pain is you have to assign them back to each and every individual guard post.

I tried handing in a save for it to be looked at but apparently one of the mods I used corrupted the data when it was loaded without the mod. So if anyone has this issue with a VERY low mod list (lower than my 60, which half are must haves) and want to provide a save please feel free to do so.

Thank you for the reply. Glad to know I am not alone. I also have to reassign them to every single guard post and every single plant, very annoying. The thing I am struggling with is indeed that I do not have defense plots unlocked yet and farms have a lot of requirements. So sometimes I need those base game things to provide defence/resources, but sim settlements is making it difficult to use those. I am now quickly following the questline hoping to unlock all plots. Shame, because I wanted to take things slowly. If you find out how to prevent this, please share! I have been fooling around with the assignment settings, but they do not seem to prevent this from happening.

Just installed SS2 and started a new game. I have not triggered any SS2 gameplay content yet (no spoilers please) and I have observed that the game appears to be behaving the same way the original game was behaving for me with regard to crops. Essentially, base game work assignments for crops simply don't work. I had Marcy Long assigned to the melons and gourds Sanctuary comes with plus some additional gourds and left to do some exploring/questing. Upon return Marcy was unassigned to anything and Sanctuary had no food.

It is my impression that this is simply the way SS and SS2 works. I think it might avoid confusion to state at the outset that if you want to play SS don't try to use base game work assignments for crops.

Well I have turned off all auto-assignment options and they still abandon their guard posts.
Turning Auto Assign in both WF and SS2 does not solve this. Even when not using vanilla items. Every time you turn around the NPCs played musical chairs with their jobs. If you try and put their assignments back to the way you want it, the system fights you, script lag sets in and it's better to go grab a long lunch....

There are a few wrinkles to iron out, but once the foundation is solid, I look forward to the future possibilities!

It never happened to me in SS1, but is happening with SS2. I too have a complex mod list, though, so sadly I can't really help by submitting my save.

Yeah I completely stopped using base game crops. And guard towers do no not work as well. Just spam my settlements with turrets since I still have not unlocked martial plots. Luckily the turrets remember their assignment! :grin
Good news though is that my glitched Marcy Long finally started being normal again, took a while, but she is now happily working her agricultural plot and actually doing something other than just stand around.
