Closed Plot snapping issue

Here are some screenshots of the issue https://imgur.com/a/kVjCX

As you can see I am unable to place a vanilla wood wall section piece behind this plot. The plot type is a normal foundationless commercial plot 2x2 plot. It is sitting on top of 4 wood floor concrete foundations. And as you can see in the screenshot there are 2 other walls in the corner and a Concrete foundation martial plot on the side.

This is an issue that has been around for a long time and I'm sure others have posted about it but it needs to be fixed. I understand there are limitations to the game engine and the settlement building but I would like to point out that If the only spot that you found to snap these to was that particular wall section of foundations then why are there mods out there that let you snap walls all the way around the base of a foundation then snap another foundation in the middle of them on top of the previous foundation. here is an example of what I mean. https://imgur.com/a/dZ1cc

Works for me. The problem I have is adding "wood" walls around corners after the plot is in place. So I normally build the corners then add the plots. The Barns & warehouse walls will rotate where the wood walls wont.

that won't work it won't snap at all unless that wall is not there trust me I tried all of the vanilla walls

I cant tell by your screenshots, do you have floors in front of those four? If so move them temporarily and see if the plot snaps, the plots often need an "edge" to snap onto, also try moving the 2 floors to the left of that plot and see if that helps. I would even be moving that martial plot foundation until you get it worked out.

But now that the plot is placed you want that wall behind it to snap in. The problem may be that the plot is already building since we see the foundation/construction level there and the plots various pieces often block snap points. There is an option in the holotape somewhere to delay construction, I think I have it set for 60 seconds, then you have a moment to snap that wall back in, just pick up the plot and tab-drop it again to reset it. If you still can't snap that wall try building another level of walls above that space then try to snap it in on the bottom edge of those walls. Failing that you might think about place anywhere and just slide that wall over from the left.

There's always a work around for these snapping issues the trick is finding them before you are beating your monitor with your keyboard. :grin

The problem is another mod is changing the vanilla snap points.
Vanilla snap points work fine.

And @ElGordo is correct... some of the construction material will block the snap points on certain plots.

Actually with Place Everywhere, you can place the plot hit "=" move it somewhere, or scrap it, build the walls, highlight the plot and hit "0" to move it back to the original location. That little feature I use a LOT! LOL

I recreated your issue exactly. I had to move the 2 foundation pieces to the left of the plot to get it to snap.

And, @woodfuzzy TY I never tried that function before but your right that will save me so much work.

Actually, the wall piece he couldn't get to snap in, is all that is needed to be removed for the plot to snap in.
The back side of the plots snap more aggressively than the sides...ie: only need 1 open tile vs 2 open tiles. dunno why! hehehe
Interior plots are like molerats on Ultra Jet. Bloody things will snap to a brahmans arse 3 settlements away before they snap to the tile right underneath them. LOL

Yeah but it sounded like he couldn't get that wall piece back in so I tried to do it without taking it out and sure enough if that wall was up it wouldn't snap. So I got the plot to snap wo taking out the wall.

When interior plots came out I spent 3 hours one night getting 2 plots to snap where I wanted them.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who plays this great new minigame, "fun with snapping" (its not a bug, its a feature!)

So just so you know the only mod I use that modifies snap points are stackable foundations and no there were no pieces on the front of that or on the sides the ones you see in there were what I was able to put back after placing the plot down. And by the way, you didn't recreate it exactly those foundations were much higher in the air and the martial plot with the concrete foundation was on top of another foundation not on the ground.

No difference with or without stackable foundations if anything stackable foundations should make it easier. With stackable foundations you can place down 4 foundations in a square then surround the outside edges with those same wood walls on all 4 sides then you can place 4 more foundations on top of the 4 below surrounded by walls of any kind I honestly don't see why there is an issue with trying to put down the foundationless plots on top of foundations regardless of surrounding pieces.

getting interior plots to snap has always been a such a pain for me I gave up and now I just turn all the snapping and manually place them. can take me several minutes to get them in place and lined up where i want them but better than spending a hour trying to use snap points.

It is not an interior plot it is a regular plot that is the issue although interiors have many issues of their own.

I have the issue with interior plots also. It seems that the plot back side likes to snap on the edge of the floor and will not let any walls snap on the side without the power box. I have found if the short side of the plot by the power box is open you can place the interior plot fine and then put a wall along that side without any problems. As for the issue Zerakiel is having I have no experience with as I don't use the plain plots since I can never find a flat enough spot. I think the other two people trying to help were talking about the leak of building material out of the plot. But your screen shot shows the building materials on the other side. Until Rise of the Commonwealth came out it never occurred to me to put one on a base like that. Maybe there is a similar 'fix' with the outside plots, finding the right wall to leave off until the plot is placed? I'll try and check it out next time I'm playing, I also use stackable foundations as it is a 'got to have' mod for me. I'll try to set it up the way you did, but spatial stuff like that is not my strong suit.

The reason issues like this remain is that there are diminishing returns on my time spent trying to fix them - getting that last 1% of an issue sorted becomes frustrating for me as well. When I spend 6 hours on a problem and make no progress (which is the case with the plot snap issue you're referring to), I check and see if there is an available workaround in game before putting more time in. In this case, there is, you can just change the order you place things. If I had unlimited time, I would ensure all issues like this were fixed - I do not.

I prioritize things like this:

1. Game-breaking Issues - Things that cause the game to just not work or have no reasonable workaround.
2. New Content/Features - These are what keep ME excited about the mod. If I don't work on this stuff regularly, it's hard to justify the crazy amount of hours I dedicate.
3. Performance Improvement - Making the mod run smoothly is very important, as while lag is probably forgivable at first, it becomes a drain on your will after a few playthroughs (probably very similar to the snap problem!)
4. Quality of Life Improvements - 4 and 5 blur together. Things like making SS more intuitive, or removing hurdles that are only there because I didn't know a better way at the time.
5. Annoying Rough edges - (This is where those snap issues are) I try to work a few of these into every patch, but this is what I'd call last mile stuff - it's generally incredibly time-consuming, as these little issues are generally there because I have been unsuccessful in finding a solution.

I know not everyone will agree with my priority list, as the things that drive you personally the most insane appear to be the most obvious things that should be fixed first.

You're doing the right thing though, reporting the issues that bother you to make sure they get attention!

Yeah, It has been an issue for a while with that particular spot with the wall not snapping back on I normally don't run into it much but in this particular case that is part of my exterior wall and it just kind of hit my last nerve so I decided to make sure it was known this time.

On a side note for people with issues putting down interior plots they do have their issues but I have found several very useful workarounds that let you make some pretty compact housing areas and buildings. I will put in a new thread in the General Discussions later called "Interior Plot tips and tricks" which will have some screenshots to help explain.

Edited: The interior plot tips and tricks thread is up now https://simsettlements.com/site/index.php?threads/interior-plot-tips-and-tricks.5286/
