Play Sim Settlements 1 First

Haven't played FO4 in years, let alone Sim Settlements 1, and I'm curious if Sim Settlements 2 has all the features & quests of SS1, Conquerors expansion etc, just with more stuff?

The whole main story quest line is basically a basic tutorial for the system.
Which is something SS1 did not have.
So having knowledge of SS1 really aint necessary.

As for the amount of addons, well SS2 is new and there is a lot of SS1 mods that were not updated.

SS2 doesnt have Conqueror - yet. Itll need redoing for the new mechanics at the very least - probably re-tweak the questline while they're at it, to be honest.

So do you recommend doing SS1 first or exclusively SS1 for conquerors? How long should it take to for SS2 to receive expansions?

Probably better off going straight into 2 at this point, and just waiting for the future extra addons. There hasnt been any detailed timeframe given for more but the team is DEFINITELY aware of how anticipated "Conqueror 2" is.

I would only recommend playing SS1 for Conqueror.

I would also recommend creating a separate mod profile for SS1/Conqueror and one for SS2 since there is so many incompatible addon mods and mods for both versions.

I’m really hoping that conquer will take advantage of all the new stuff from this mod. That and the progress the modders have made over ss1 is clearly shown in ss2 so I’m expecting conquer 2 to be a lot more awesome then the already great version out now.

So, this has kind of been answered....but... here is my two cents.

Short answer;
No, just go to SS2.
You won't miss what you did not have, AND you won't have to un-learn anything.

Longer Answer;
While I absolutely loved SS1 (had over 20 ss1 mods) I can say coming from the old mod to the new has its pro's and cons.

Pros:
You already understand the core concepts - plots (small areas of land) that can be placed in a settlement where settlers will later build things.
You get used to some of the mechanics of the plots, and the concepts of settlement maintenance and upgrades.

Cons:
You get used to how SS1 worked, and how the plots and resources were accessed and managed.
Which is completely different in ss2.
This CAN be frustrating at first, as you are having to let go of expectations - as you learn the new way of things.

I would give SS2 a go, and enjoy it while the upgrades come out over time.
It is very cool as is, and will only get better over time.

Just my 2 caps worth....

One more vote for just starting with 2. It has a well integrated tutorial- something that SS1 and especially Conqueror really needed. It will also allow you to come into it fresh with nothing to unlearn from SS1. If you are dead-set on being a rat-bastard then that may be the only argument for SS1 + Conqueror. Otherwise I wouldn't, and I even have a bit of a vested interest in the Conqueror story.

It will be quite interesting to see how the new "virtual resources" will integrate with how Conqueror1 worked... if anything, itll mean less of a 'jarring' shift in mechanics, I guess?

My humble suggestion - :blush
I would recommend you start with SS2.
1. In a way it is a prequel/tutorial,
2. it is the future of the mod's development,
3, has better code,
4. uses different in-game systems that will be what is used going forward, so bad to learn the SS1 and then now have to switch to SS2 systems. That was even hard for me.
5. and last but not least "CONQUEROR will Come to SS2." Jake :wink is not going back for Conqueror.
6. I could go on about the add-ons, support, etc but I would get more tired than I already am :crazy
:acute

I believe Sim Settlements 2 contains the content from the Industrial Revolutions expansion, but does not have Rise of the Commonwealth or Conqueror content which means you can’t start with settlements already pre built and of course you don’t get the Raider storyline however SS2 has been rebuilt from the ground up with better code and systems in place. It’s also been confirmed that the content from Rise and Conqueror will be coming to SS2 in the future although it’s probably going to be several months before it’s released.

Yeah the new resource setup should make balancing resources a lot easier for the new system it was always a pain to keep stuff in the green so you could get attackers to go for that next settlement.

but their work on the new quest and camera and voice acting stuff is a lot better in ss2. Just seems like stuff runs a lot smother I’m really hoping it’s all integrated with the new npcs and stuff.

The one pro for SS1 is the reports and tools. I can't wait for the hotfixing to be over so the team has a chance to port the old tools and reports over. Or possibly even better tools. :wink
