So I'm not sure if this is a bug or a feature. But it's likely just a strange relationship between mods.

Anyway, I have global workshops, meaning every workshop is shared and probably the only reason I noticed this. So my sneaky vassals have been squirreling away guns and ammo, seriously, like revolution level sedition. I was losing ammo mysteriously, in big chunks of about 1k at a time. Investigated one of my vassals and half of the population were carrying several weapons each with about 1k of ammo dependent on the type they took. Lol.

I'm guessing that when I have "control vassals" switched off, the settlers treat the workshop like their armory because it's still connected. That is assuming this isn't default vanilla behaviour where the settlers have all the time, even when you're in control. Bizarre for sure.

Like I said though, not a big deal. Just thought people might have noticed the same thing and couldn't work out why.

hello i think what is a mod conflict beacuse this doesnt happen normally when i have control vassals on the settlers dont take weapons from the workshop of another settlements so i think what the problem is global workshops.

Vanilla settlers will upgrade their weapons during a fight.

They will take better weapons off of dead bodies and out of any container close by. They seem to favor not just more damage but a combo of damage and rate of fire. A settler with pipe bolt action will be looking to swap as soon as possible. They are very fond of gamma guns for this reason.

When they do take a better weapon, they will take all of the available ammo for that weapon as well.

So if a settler grabs a minigun out of the workbench, she will also grab all of the 5mm rounds.

Other NPC will also do this. Caravan guards, Trash Can Carla, and any bad guys that spawn near or get close to your workbench. Sometimes after a settlement attack you may find a corpse with a shit ton of ammo. This was probably stolen from your workbench.

If the mod you are using makes each workbench access the goodies from all others this may be a bit of a headache. You would need to make sure you arming all your settlers well enough that the don't feel the need to grab a better weapon and with it all of that kind of ammo. This is mostly trial and error.

You can also arm a settler with a melee weapon and see what other weapon they pick up during a fight.

My experience is that settlers hate sniper rifles. The rate of fire is just too low.

One trick to getting your settlers to arm themselves is to build a bunch of containers and place some badass weapons in them but with only a few rounds of ammo. You need to put multiple weapons taht use different kinds of ammo, not the same ammo. (When a settler grabs a weapon she grabs all the ammo that weapon uses.) If they feel like the need to upgrade they will and you can control how much ammo they take by how much you put in the container.

Yeah guys, thought as much. To those that use global workshops however, you can get away with just putting your weapons and ammo in the "my storage", they can't access that. Like I said, not really a bug, just funny. Although, @Raider106, you might find it is happening in your game, just not to the same extent. I remember how Vanilla was a joke with settlers stealing stuff, it lines up with what Bullyrook was saying. That is of course, if you don't have them locked up. Don't worry about thinking of solutions though, I just forgot this happens and it caught me by surprise, and I figured if I put this out there then someone googling could figure out why quickly. Gotta love the internets.

I should point out though, deep down I secretly wanted them to try to revolt. Lol.

Thanks fellas.
