NMM is shouting at me

So yesterday I noticed some red text at the bottom of the Nexus Mod Manager window. Apparently because I'm using 270 mods it's afraid Fallout won't run.

SHUT UP I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM IT'S FINE

If you breach the active plugin limit of 255, fallout may go wonky. Mine won't even start if my limit hits 256, how I wish this wasn't a thing there are too many good mods.

Nooooo think of the children! I just need to discipline myself, so once I get a mod set up locked in, I never browse the Nexus until that game is done, but it won't happen.
I think that's one of my biggest issues also. I frequently check for mod updates and when I do and I happen to see something new I want to try it, or I get an idea and then try to find a mod that includes an item for my idea, so that's another download.

But if I don't check Nexus every day how will I know when it's time to start a new game? :D

Seriously, I've never actually finished the game. it drives one of my friends crazy...

So. Many. Mods. I haven't finished a game yet either, and I keep finding new mods to try. You don't want to know how many I've converted to ESLs, or merged with other vaguely similar mods just to drop the count.

I merged all my companion look mods via FO4Edit. Was the best way for me. I like the Merge Plugins tool and I should probably do that one of these days for all the little settlement crafting mods I use, but I'm too lazy. I'm only sitting at 140 plugins though so I'm safe for now. :)

This go round I'm only using weapon mods that have visible weapons (Friffy's, etc.) extensions for them, which has cut down my mod list significantly. I'm also nuking a lot of outfit mods, because I wind up never using them. But not ALL the outfit mods, because I'm not a monster.

I'm nuking scrap everything, which pisses me off, but what ya gonna do?

I'm trying to decide whether or not to use Clean and Simple. I'm going with "no" at the moment and I'll just... I don't know... find a way to cover up all the junk.

I'm dropping two builder sets that I hardly ever use. Which is too bad, because one of them has this really amazing high-tech stuff just begging to be used! It's just... I never use it...

What! only 140, thats 115 free active plug in spots, you better get crackin!

I have finished "the storyline" twice once with the Minutemen and once leaving everyone neutral towards me except the Institute. But I have yet to finish "the game" as I am sure there are tons of places I have yet to explore, and now the to new overhaul mods installed that add a bunch of new locations, whew I got to get going.

I have a ton of clothing mods that I never use on my character but I use Better Settlers, and Raider Overhaul, and a bunch of other upgrades that change the NPC clothing so they require all those to work, but I think its worth it not to see every single NPC in the same armor.

I agree but of all the crafting tables I've used, the armor one is the only one that ever locks up on me so I probably need to shed a few metric tons of clothing.

Tough Traveller, Eli's Armor Compendium, and some accessory mods and that's really it for me for armor. The rest are either bug fixes, aesthetic, or settlement build mods.

... I didn't realize you could do that. Um...

... no, purge it is. I'm committed to the purge. I don't REALLY need all those different guns in the game...
I really do only do it to small and old - if they haven't updated since 2016 I'll convert or merge them if I can. If they are older I'm forcing myself to start removing them unless they are really small/simple ESL candidates.

Last Night: Purge, Day One

I spent all night removing weapon mods that didn't have meshes available for the Visible Weapons stuff (Friffy's, etc.) The only possible issue I have there is that one of the holster mods has an option for the Glock 20, and the Glock 20 mod no longer exists on Nexus. That means I need to remember to never, ever click on that option when I'm using that mod, or else I will CTD. Other than that, it went well.

I did keep the weapon crafting mods I use, because I like the Fallout: New Vegas feel of ammo crafting (scrounging for lead, copper, and acid is painful at the beginning of a new game, though!)

I then nuked most (but not all) of my clothing mods. I then went through all of my backpack mods, and cut out about 40% of those. It's amazing how many backpack mods I had. So many backpack mods... actually I think I can probably cull a few more tonight.

So far, I've brought my total active mod count down to 212.

Tonight I'm focusing on power armor mods, building kits, and rules hacks.

I... don't expect to lower my active mods much.

I'm pretty sure I only have one backpack mod, what's your favorite? I might have too many quest mods though. And almost all the Sim AddOns. And an awful lot of dog and cat mods.

I like Survivalist Go-Bags. The designs are very nice. Though I also use Wearable Backpacks and Pouches because they provide a carry widget you can craft for Power Armor.

The power armor pouches are a must, yet again another failing in vanilla Fallout 4. You are in a suit of power armor but you can only carry another 6 pack! seriously. I should be able to lift a freakin car, but this pencil is too heavy....ROFL. But I have to be honest I use the Wall Street Banker level of carry weight mod now as I have paid my dues with the vanilla carry weight in past play throughs. For my character I love the Field Scribe Backpack.

Purge, Day Two

Due to my successful purge of weapons mods, I managed to get my total Active Plugin count down to 212. Now it was time to tackle all my build mods. And my rule modification mods. And my power armor mods.

This was going to be tough. I'm a pack rat when it comes to building mods, convinced that a set will have THAT ONE THING that I need to make a settlement work, even though I don't necessarily know what it is just yet. But I steeled myself. I forced myself to evaluate every single mod I had and ask all the hard questions: Do I really need this mod? Is it genuinely a make or break item? Mod after mod I looked at, frowned at, looked up over at Nexus just to remind myself what it did, agonized over... then I made my decisions. And when the entire ordeal was over, my active plugin count was 242.

I REGRET NOTHING
