New Player for SS1

It's been 5 years since I last played and I want to try out SS1. Is there a way to set it up so that it just runs itself? I just want to start it and then go do the rest of the game. I have no idea what to do with the sensors because I don't want to set up plots. I've been looking through help sites and none of them so far that I can see mention that. I basically want it to be a start and forget, let it just do its thing while I do mine.

ROTC xpac or the 3 in 1 allows you to build cities that will grow by themselves ,once you claim a settlement build a city planners desk ,assign a leader (or turn off leader requirement) choose a plan and it will build and upgrade over time.

Conqueror xpac allows you to pre build cities in all settlements before u leave the vault in a new game but Conqueror is a raider gameplay and includes a raider questline.
