Well that day had to come. The day I snapped and went from Xbox only player to getting my hands on a computer that can run the game and make addons to the day I’d have to release something. And today I’m announcing that I will release something you will be doing with great pleasure.
To explain quickly what got me to where I am today, I fell in love with the Holiday system. What’s the holiday system you ask? Am I glad for this question? To help me answer this question I have with us a member of the behind the scenes of SS2 and the creator of Apocalyptic Additions Addon (or AAAas I call it) SirLach.
SirLach: Why am I tied to a chair? And why are you so relaxed while talking to me tied to a chair?
Irealys: Because you should always tie-up someone after kidnapping them and I’m relaxed because we’re friends right? Now could you explain in a sentence or two what the holiday decoration system is?
SirLach took a moment wondering if it was worth trying to explain why this was crazy and knew that no, it wasn’t. He said: Kinggath asked me to implement a series of holiday decorations to give that extra vibe and feeling to settlements and to have some decorative fun outside of the plots. It was my first big project in the SS2 team and 6 months and a small amount of testing later and we have the decorations system we have today. We designed it to be super easy for add-on makers to add decorations to their plots and it's very straight forward in how to design and implement decorations of your own.
IR: Remind me to never leave you in charge of marketing. I know you’re famous for your minimalist small builds and also tied to a chair but come on man… put some pizazz in there. Like explaining how the plot builders can place a marker saying “put the holiday decoration here”, the decoration maker gives the game a ton of options and the game picks at random but always for the right season. So that means during October it would be Halloween decorations and during December be Christmas decorations. And in February it can be empty because they decided to not include Valentine day as the holiday. And I was shocked. APPALLED I say!
SirLach: Appalled?
Irealys: Would you mind your own business now? Don't make me put the duct tape back on.
SirLach: OK..OK...Get to the point!
Irealys: So while appalled may be a bit over the top, it was still a missed opportunity. So I did what I think I do best. And after annoying the right people for a week straight with my polite but stalker-like Canadian lack of charm I managed to convince Kinggath to slightly expand the Holiday system and include Valentine day as a holiday in the main SS2. But for silly reasons like being overrun by work on the mod and being a father and most likely saving the world on the weekends and not being able to add content without it going over the limit of xbox players he couldn’t add decorations to the file itself. Then so be it. I will take care of it myself. And to do so I kidnapped the guy who made the holiday system to do it for me. I mean I’d do it myself but I have no idea what I’m doing.
SirLach: Can I go now?
Irealys: Of course not. I just said I had two reasons to kidnap you.Back to the subject at hand. So, here’s my idea. I want to have a holiday decoration pack made for Valentine’s day. It’s a short period of time but I know we can do it.
SirLach: We? So you plan on just kidnapping more people?
IR: Ok that’s it, the tape goes back on and I’m rolling you in that corner over there. Hope watching green paint excites you as much as Abbott. And don’t think of it as being kidnapped and enslaved, let’s just call it doing a contest. I’ll try to get Kinggath to donate a T-shirt or something. But in the end I want everyone to participate, I just kidnap you to make sure I don’t mess up on release. So I’m calling on everyone. The big guns of course! I would ask them to donate one decoration each. We all know they are talented and come on, who doesn’t want to see Uituit best raider themed Valentine day decoration?
SirLach: Mphmmmphpmhmphmpmh!?!
Irealys: Of course you’re a big gun. And of course I still expect you to make one. I just expect it to be small, can’t say why. But I’m not interested mostly on the big guns. Anyone with experience in CK could do it easily and most importantly to me, I’m calling on anyone else who has the game and thought about doing a mod but never did.
This is a very simple way to try your hand at the CK for the first time.

Wall: Small, Medium, Large, XL, XXL
Don’t be afraid to think outside the box. Just keep your decoration in the box.

I hope this is something we can do to a nice enough scale that Kinggath will agree to do it again in the future.
